Very interesting. Sleep for me (as a fellow Aspie) is quite different. I sympathize with feeling like I "could" sleep at any time, but I actually can't. Even if I'm physically and mentally exhausted, my mind still wants to keep going, come hell or high water. So every night I lie there for hours, sooooo tiiiiired, but I just cannot sleep. Once I do fall asleep, though...oh, man. I never want to get up. I'll sleep for 10+ hours (if I can) and have the hardest time getting up. Caffiene also affects me strangely. Mentally, it doesn't do much to "wake up my brain". If I drink one coffee, it gives me a short-lived little "kick". If I drink five coffees...same. But physically it packs a whallop. I can drink a pot of coffee and still feel absolutely brain-dead, but physically I'm jittery and fidgety and my cardio system feels stressed.

Wow, same. Been awake all night long as I am typing this. I love how quiet night is and I just can't sleep. Too hot, too itchy, mind keeps racing and racing and pedaling...Starts to feel really drowsy only by like 3 am.

I can relate to all of this.
Sometimes I have trouble falling asleep at bedtime, but not always. Sometimes I'm out the second my head hits the pillow.
On the other end I have a silly super power to be able to fall asleep anywhere at anytime. If I'm bored Sometimes I'll just passout. If I want to take a nap I can lay on the floor, sit in a chair, in a car, on planes, and even in weirder places. I've woken up from a nap laying on the concrete driveway a few times as a teenager. Mid day sun is shining I wake up all sweaty. I enjoy hiking and camping, and I've woken up laying on uneven bolders a couple times. Sit down to rest up a little then wake up 30mins later.
When I was I the Army the ability to nap whenever wherever was actually pretty helpful!

solution for me after struggling for 30 years, was sleeping outside actually... got veranda and a normal bed, after 2-3 days, even in rain or so something got "reset" in brain and i got no problem sleeping inside for aprox 2weeks, then i have to go out again. did this for a year now and im a new man now... :) owls and spiders everywhere zzzzzz long time.... but inside in a quiet bedroom even with windows open, im restless, cannot sleep, get often up several times at night... i was desperate and now i think i had found my solution !!

My Autism sleep is very light. I run white noise machines all night long. Working nightshifts troublesome not easy for me. There's supposedly two ways to work nightshifts 1) Sun regulation 2) starvation --- don't eat for 12-16 hours prior wakeup. I've tried both with some success.

Aspergers has been linked with Disautonomia, a condition of having an overactive autonomic system. Individuals who suffer from that condition can have too much adrenaline pumping into their system to try to get the blood up to their head. This condition can cause many problems, one of which is trouble sleeping well. It is worth looking into, but most doctors are imbecilicly and pompously ignorant about overactive autonomic systems. The Doctor who helped me with my worse symptoms is Dr. Alexandru Barboi in Chicago, Il.

I sleep 10h plus and I would still like two naps a day. I tend to fall asleep sitting at the table, I need to nap if I drive long distance. Could never be a truck driver. My dad is the same and my grandmum was the same. We all fall asleep at loud venues as well. I usually nap during halftime when at basketball games.

I often nap during parties. It's a useful skill in my opinion. I take 20 mins out and then I'm full of energy for the rest of the night :)

I can only drink cappuccino or latte and that would make my brain work better (does only work when you don't constantly do this).
Otherwise I would get a very fast heartbeat and hyperventilations when I drink 1 espresso. So I consider myself hypersensitive to caffeine. After drinking coffee at 2 pm I would sleep very bad at night.

Did you ever get a conclusive result from your sleep study? I have had pretty severe sleep issues since I was around thirteen. When I was 30, I was diagnosed with Narcolepsy, Cataplexy, and Central Sleep Apnea (Apnea due to the nervous system, instead of a physical obstruction). It often takes around ten to fifteen years to get a proper sleep disorder diagnosis, and it can be more difficult if any other conditions are present. I was just diagnosed a few weeks ago with ASD-1, at age 40.

Yeah, it must be highly individual. My Aspie mom is not at all affected by caffeine and can also fall asleep whenever/wherever she want's and is a deep sleeper when she's asleep. I'm an Aspie too, but I'm affected normally by caffeine, and aside from using earplugs to control for noise my sleep patterns are normal.

Had a sleep study done before because I never felt like I slept. They said I woke up so many times. It was not until they gave me some bed time habits to try and I found out and seriously panicked when I realized I was not sleeping but I was actually awake. I found out I suffer from sleep paralysis sometimes and restless leg syndrome.

Sleeping a lot or not enough is a personal worry. I wonder about depression and aspies, and also the tendency of mental health pros to head straight for bipolar diagnoses rather than to explore enough to correctly differentiate between the three of them them.

I could sleep at about any time as well. But lately at night, I become mostly awake. Maybe my body clock is off, or it's relief from constant unwelcome distractions.
Coffee almost has no effect, unless I drink a strong pot of coffee in less than an hour.

It's quite common among the whole population, but I do not actually know the reasons why it happens. I've read somewhere that it's a reaction of the body to the heart rate being too slow, but don't take that for granted...I wonder if it happens more frequently to endurance athletes..

It's ironic because for me it's the opposite, and I might have liked to be in your position, in your words "that sounds nice". I feel like my mind is so overactive all the time and the last thing I feel like is sleeping, or can't even because of that. Same with restlessness in my body, I rarely feel at ease, so makes sense that sleep is difficult.

I comment on very old videos, I don't know if you're going to read me 😅 I find them all interesting. I was a heavy coffee drinker for about 10 years. I took to boost myself in the phases of autistic tiredness. But caffeine is very bad for us, because we are already anxious people and sleeping is more difficult for us. Now I don't take coffee anymore and it's much better. Just tea.

Sounds like metabolism, not absorbing energy that is needed. Allthough I am not qualified to make such a statement.
But as you say, I envy you, I have a really hard time sleeping unless I am ready to pass out :b, which is why bedtime for me is between +2-+6hours, depending on the day before.
Hope you find a way to generate more energy, because low energy to me is the same as being tired so I guess you have the biological benefits while I have the productivity benefits of having more energy.

Most of us are deprived of certain vitamins and minerals maybe that's why also. But also the toll of SPD for us aspies is real ASF too.. it's sad cause I'm nervous I'll never be able to have a good sleep schedule, especially when I gets job.. makes it so hard. The anxiety of going to work keeps me up, then I get morning anxiety nausea wether I get enough sleep or not which I never do, so it effects work . But yet still can't get to bed at a decent time the next night either
