After 5 years without any cleaning or maintenance, a canal became extremely polluted with trash and debris. A massive cleanup effort by the organization SGX removed 20,000 pounds (9,072 kg) of plastic waste that had accumulated in the filthy waterway. The plastic trash posed a major threat to wildlife and the environment. The canal required extensive cleaning and removal of garbage that had piled up over half a decade of neglect. The major cleanup demonstrates the importance of proper maintenance and cleaning of water systems to prevent dangerous pollution.

I do not comprehend why anything would have been allowed to get to that point to begin with. How very dangerous for these young people to be in that water and yet the work they accomplished is amazing. What a fine example they set for others. Well done!!! 😊😊

There's not a good infrastructure of waste management in Singapore. I presume that means there's no regular garbage pickup or proper disposal.

"dangerous for these young people to be in that water"? What do you mean? It's the fish and other wildlife that dies from it. Shame to the people who keep throwing their garbage in nature.
