I wasn’t thrilled about this pick at first, mainly because of the niche role he played at a smaller school leading to showing a limited route tree as well as his catch radius and hands being suboptimal, but even before they drafted him, it was easy to see how the Jets would imagine him in their offense. It was kind of a predictable pick for me, but one I was hoping they’d avoid. With that said, what’s really turned me is that from his interviews I think he really wants to be a professional and I think it’s likely he’ll put in the long hours to deliberately approach refining his game. When they drafted him, my immediate thought was that they got 80% of Bowers but 50 picks later. I don’t think he can move block like Bowers and I don’t think he’s as proven at the intermediate level of the field, but I prefer his feel for route pacing and I like his YAC ability to translate a little better. I can envision him making them less predictable and opening up space by having some overlap with Breece, Garrett, and Mike Will on some of the underneath and short area touches. I think Breece and Garrett are masters of proper footwork and being sharp in their cuts, so hopefully he pays close attention to that in particular and it helps him take advantage of some of his short area quickness.

In the 3rd round you're not going to get 100% of what you want in a WR. You'll either get a polished but limited guy or someone with gold traits but not totally polished. Corley has elite YAC, is a good athlete, and seems to be high character. He needs polish but if he didn't he would have gone a full round earlier.

I was so impressed with the play by Malachi Corley against Louisiana Tech beginning at 14:10, but I found myself just as impressed with #3 who was aware of what was going on behind him and sold his route by showing his hands at not trying to block #21 that helped contribute to the td even though Malachi did a lot of the heavy lifting. Such a smart play.

I know there's a lot of comparisons for Debo I'm seeing Jericho Cotchery like player on the pro level

Think Cotchery was a pretty crafty route runner though. J Co is a to 5 jet to me.

I think that the first pass was poorly thrown. Corley had to reach out to catch it!

Are you at all concerned with his willingness to invite contact?
That may have been ok at podunk Middle Western Southern Kentucky State but it’s asking for problems at the next level.

It’ll be something they have to monitor for sure. Wouldn’t expect him to maintain a clean bill of health his entire career

Debunking what myth about Corley? You just start with a play, no explanation of what the myth is? Then you criticize him for letting the ball cross his face on the first play? ROFLMAO! Seriously? The first throw was a horrible. Corley did an amazing job to get to the pass and haul it in, and you're trying to criticize him? Get real. There was no way he could have kept he ball from crossing his face on that throw. It was a great catch. Your criticism of his route at about 9:15 may be a valid point, but it's moot, because it's defensive holding. He confused the defender so badly that all he could was grab Corley so it's a penalty. If the explanation of what the myth is about Corley and how/why it's debunked should have been included in this video, or it shouldn't have been posted. This is just a bad video, period.
