I never got to see him play but I’ve met him several times. One of the most down to earth guys, you’d never think that he was an NFL QB, he acts like every other regular guy you would meet where I grew up in Western New York.
I think it was 95, kelly threw a pic against Atlanta, ran the guy down about 40 yards down the sidelines and broke his leg. To this day, Jim Kelly still the toughest player I've ever seen
9:37, That AWESOME no-huddle offense. I LOVED it. My football life as a kid started with the 90's Bills. No one in HISTORY could run an offense with that type of tempo. I used to clock how fast Jim Kelly got the plays off. He would get some of the plays off in UNDER 15 seconds! Ask Howie Long about the 1990 AFC Championship game🤣😂Kelly should have won Super Bowl 25 & 28, he should be at least 2-2 in the Super Bowls💯
Lifelong Chiefs fan here and I can't fully explain it but this interview got me emotional. Knew Jim had been through some things and just so good to see him happy and healthy and telling stories. No matter what team you root for those icons of our youth really mean something and mark a special time in our lives and he's one of them. So glad you took the time to talk him and thanks to Jim for sharing himself with us 🙏🏽🙏🏽
@@BillyBuffalo354 DT was a hero to me! In one of life's crazy coincidences I was/am paralyzed from the chest down after an acccident when I was 28. So I also identify with Jim in the sense of your life and health changing in ways you didn't expect but still finding strength and happiness in the good things. All love to the Bills Mafia from Chief's Kingdom!
Awesome comment and respect, I’m a lifelong Bills fan and I remember and respect do many of the Chiefs players also from back then. It still hurts me today and makes me angry that Derrick Thomas is not with us, but I remember and respect all of them Neil Smith, etc…..
I've alway's been a huge Jim Kelly fan. The man is so humble & full of integrity! He's been through so much & he faced it with courage & dignity!. I'm still a huge Bill's fan & Jim Kelly is a big reason for the blue collar winning culture! Go Bill's!
For a man to have lost a child, lost 4 super bowls, had several bouts with cancer to say “I’m a very blessed man” is the ultimate man of God. Go Jim and Go Bills.
I grew up a cowboys fan and i felt bad for Jim and the Bills. Its a team i loved as a football fan and still love the Bills to this day. Its a true blue collar town with a true fan base, what football is meant to be
Crazy!! I’m from Pittsburgh and a Bills fan!! Have been since I was 7 I’m 35!!! Jim is from our area!! We really Had Dan Marino, Jim Kelly, Joe Montana, Joe Namath, Johnny Unitas, Blanda, maaaann we breed them lol!!
Hes one of the greatest qbs of all time, but my favorite Jim Kelly thing was seeing him run the football. Showed his willingness to do what it took to win the game. He gave everything he had on that field.
I love these old bills stories. Chris is the first one I've seen to get all these guys to talk. And be that relaxed I hope he does more bill's legends.
Jim is such a great guy. He’s still very active in the community, when I was younger I actually went to one of his annual football camps that he hosts in Buffalo.
Chris - thanks for doing this piece with Jim. As a fan since the Rock Pile days, Jim brought us so many great memories. He exemplifies what Buffalo is all about. Throw us the worst and we will endure. And Jim will endure with us for ever, he is one of us…
K-Gun Offense! 4 straight appearances is so underappreciated. This interview took me back to such a wonderful moment in time. Jim Kelly is such a great human being and Chris Long, you're the real deal brother... Awesome! Go Bills!!
I'm from California, even as a kid i was so opposed to the yuppie elite 49er fans that i picked the bills as my favorite team, that was 4th grade. I have been a bills fan ever since. I loved kelly, Bruce smith the most but allen will get us the trophy. I believe that!!
I played in with the band at halftime at the greatest comeback in NFL history at the time vs. the Huston Oilers. It was the greatest experience of my life. We warmed up in the bubble with the team. We even shared a bathroom in the tunnel with the players. A friend of mine actually had to wait for Jim to come out of the bathroom to use it. Like I said one of the greatest experiences of my life. Jim Kelly was the sweetest to us. What a great man.
Lifer Bills fan that drives 1100 miles one way a few times a year. Was in the Bills store on a random Thursday before the Dolphins game in Dec 2022. Wasn't crowded at all but I saw a slick dressed guy following around by a much taller older gentleman in sweats and a covid mask and ball cap. Just went about my business. We happened to start browsing the same rack of jerseys and the older fella started talking to the guy helping him. Without eye contact, still browsing the rack, I said "I recognize that voice, how ya feeling these days Jim." He paused hard for a second, and said "Im actually feeling a lot better, thank you. Merry Christmas!" Exchanged fist bumps and we went on our merry way. Absolute paramount for me meeting a Bills legend.
I know all the early stories of jim from the early days. But the guy has had a hard life and really turned a lot of hardships into positive ones. Great example of someone turning into a great human being. Earliest i can remember seeing him in person was at legends of the aud, a wrestling event, at memorial auditorium in the mid 90s. As always go bills.
I love me some Jim Kelly! I became a huge fan in 1984 when he was playing for the USFL's Houston Gamblers! He brought us so much joy and excitement compared to what the Oilers were doing at that time. I remained a fan even after he went to Buffalo!
Had to laugh when Jim talked about his look alike brother going over the border to bars. I saw Jim at the Sundowner in Niagara Falls, Canada, after he signed with the Bills. He bought everyone in there a drink. Great memories!
One of Jim's best throws in my opinion was to Jaime Mueller for a TD to beat the Jets in 1990. He had one to Andre Reed against Miami where he stepped up in the pocket, about to be sacked, and got it 20 yards downfield to Andre who slipped coverage for a TD.
This was an incredible listen. Chris I appreciate you having the legend Jim Kelly on your podcast. He is such a cool dude. I could listen to his stories all day.
Four consecutive Super Bowl appearances!!! Never been done, before. Just think about how great the Bills had to be to accomplish this feat. Each season playing the toughest schedule in order to return to and play for the championship. Mad respect for all of those Bills teams.
Excellent Chris. Good job. You get these NFL guys to say and reveal stuff no one else can. The best part is you do your homework, you listen and you let the guests do the talking.
I hope Jim and the rest of those guys understand, I was just 5, and these dudes were larger than life. Saw them at the training camp. I felt so small (they were all full pads) and out comes Jim Kelly. Tallest one of them all it seemed. Again I was 5. Now I’m 36. Probably just as tall as Jim. But after watching this I still feel so small. Like I’m still that small child looking up. Love ya Jim.
9:37, The Raiders actually called a basketball style timeout in that game to try to slow things down!🤣😂It was 41-3 at halftime and we could have scored 100 POINTS in that game. It was AWESOME!💯
It sucks that Jim Kelly is such a nice dude. You see a guy lose four straight super bowls and you think to yourself, "surely no good man can deserve such a fate. He has to be a serial killer or something, right??" He's such a gracious person when he speaks, it's hard to come to terms with the fact that he never got what he worked so hard for.
The K-gun was the only thing that was going to keep Jim "safe" vs your dad. Howie had that speed off the edge that would have killed a QB that couldn't move worth a shit. The Bills o-line wasn't loaded with pro bowlers by any stretch. Excellent interview. Go find Bruce next! lol
Jim isn’t as innocent as he seems. Yes beyond happy his health is better. But he was such a scumbag back in the day. And yes people change but he’s not this role model person
Gotta love Jim Kelly man. Side note, not tryna be negative at all but Jim apparently was a bit of a an ass in the 90’s I guess. At least that’s what most of my Aunts and Uncles and my parents say 🤣
Can we all agree KELLY HAD THE BETTER TEAM then Josh .BRUCE SMITH alone is FREAK Thomas, Reed, Lofton, Early, 1/2 yr MOULDs Bennet Talley, Tasker Christy, HUll, R Brown , . Good job on the amazing Buffalo videos Chris. Thanks
Hes one of the greatest qbs of all time, but my favorite Jim Kelly thing was seeing him run the football. Showed his willingness to do what it took to win the game. He gave everything he had on that field.
His scrambles on the last drive of SB 25 were all heart. He did everything he could to win that one.
Yeah unfortunately he used to be at the shit out of his wife. Good thing Jesus forgave him lol😂

Yeah I say it all the time because people want to put the bills down for 4 loses but to go 4 straight is still unmatched go bills
Would have been great to win one but 4 straight still is remarkable

10/10 interview. I'm not from Buffalo, and this is still great. Chris and Jim are fucking dudes.
He took his high school football coach to 32 super bowls. Wow talk about the lasting impression he left on him as a young man.
It sucks that Jim Kelly is such a nice dude. You see a guy lose four straight super bowls and you think to yourself, "surely no good man can deserve such a fate. He has to be a serial killer or something, right??"
He's such a gracious person when he speaks, it's hard to come to terms with the fact that he never got what he worked so hard for.
Not being biased but I think the game itself was better in the 90s than it is now.
Jim Kelly today isnt the same Jim Kelly when he played He was a super party animal
The K-gun was the only thing that was going to keep Jim "safe" vs your dad. Howie had that speed off the edge that would have killed a QB that couldn't move worth a shit. The Bills o-line wasn't loaded with pro bowlers by any stretch. Excellent interview. Go find Bruce next! lol
When the cameras cut off he told an amazing joke that I am stealing for myself
Jim isn’t as innocent as he seems. Yes beyond happy his health is better. But he was such a scumbag back in the day. And yes people change but he’s not this role model person
I loved how he smoked the Raiders
👏
I think Jim likes to drink lol 😂 #GoBills

Jimbo played quarterback like you owed him money
SMH 🤦🏻 Josh Allen should hang out with him take him up on his offer.
2:30 He’s that way NOW. After the cancer. He wasn’t always that way. He used to be an arrogant prick. Jim had epiphany some years back.
someone call delly cause chris is asking kelly about him
also thank yew jim

I would like to see a team go to 4 straight yes we lost but 4 straight if tgat field go went we would've won 4
Yeah the people so good Marshawn Lynch wanted to stay.

Not really when this was Josh’s busiest offseason of his career with all the new players and coaches n what not.
