Grip Art Time! I thought this was a fun video idea that I've never done before. I hope you guys enjoyed it. Next time I'll hopefully be able to nail something even more solid than this BB-8. Either way I'll see you guys tomorrow since I do videos everyday!
I'm new to skating so I thought my only option was the premade grip tape designs.
I'm no artist but you've just opened my eyes to a whole new realm of possibilities.
Awesome. I'm big into painting and I customized my deck a few months back and did this whole thing with rays of light outlined with gold behind an anatomical heart over a bed of poppies. I totally want to continue the motif onto the grip tape. I'll probably do something with blood dripping or an outline of more poppies. I'm pumped.
Oh also, pro artist/seamstress tip. Draw your design on normal printer paper (or just print it out). Color the back with chalk. Make sure you got a good layer on there. Boom. DIY transfer paper. Place the design where you want it, tape it in place, and trace over it with a ball point pen.

+Brock Campbell TIP: for the people who wanna know, if you done this with those markers it doesn't last verry long. So solution is: get some ultrastrong hairspray (non stick) en spay your board/deck in and that would last longer!! ;D

If you're in Europe and have no idea where to find something like this; go to Ikea and find Textile markers, they work amazingly well!

+nick barton crayons make your grip slippery the paint soaks under the actual grippy part of the grip so it is still griptape. Crayons will work I guess but will mess up your grip.

ive been loving the little bits of Coheed & Cambria sprinkled in your videos.
this video helped me a lot, I used sharpie oil-based paint markers and it didn't degrade the griptape and it stays on really well

Happy early birthday! My bday is on the 15th. I already got my present though. I have a skateboard I got from a local skate shop. So I knew Andy inspired me and made me want to make videos, and I really like his skateboards, but I told my parents I wanted a go pro instead. This way I can make videos and make others happy like Andy makes me happy! So now I have a go pro hero 4 session. (Oh btw the skateboard wasn't part of it. I had already had it.)

Lasercutting griptape also works well! Just make sure to laser on the paper back before you grip your board (laser on grip doesnt work). Also, if you want something complex (like I did a mandala), you can laser the same pattern in two different colored sheets of griptape and use the complementary pieces to fill the gaps. Holds surprisingly well, unless you do it on a part where your feet often are.

It normally stays for a bit and also depends where placed on the board because up towards the nose it will be messed up faster because the slide of your foot

You can do some cool paint effects with spratpaint, scrap cardboard, and creativity. You hold the cardboard perpendicular to the board and spray it with paint. Try different elevtions for different patterns. You can make stars, pyramids, anything.

if you can't get those markers, just draw your design in white-out and color over it in sharpie, it actually turns out better

You could cut a piece of paper and lay it around your painting so you can spray a bit of hairspray on it, that way it would probably last a bit longer.. :)
