Great workman. Freddie Young was one of the best cinematographers of all time. He's right up there with Roger Deakins, Vittorio Storaro, Gordon Willis, and Robert Richardson.
My favorite Cinematographer ever and what a visual genius.
Winning three Academy Awards for three consecutive David Lean epic masterpieces.
Lawrence Of Arabia
Doctor Zhivago
Ryans Daughter, which may actually be his most beautiful cinematic achievement...
I have never liked David Lean. All three of his movies; Lawrence of Arabia, Ryan's Daughter and Doctor Zhivago gave me headaches but God knows all three of them looked absolutely visually stunning.
I felt thirsty during Lawrence of Arabia, warm during Ryan's Daughter and cold during Zhivago and that could not have been possible without Freddie Young's heavenly camerawork. I am grateful to have seen the world through his eyes. Such beauty, such grandiose, only Mr. Young could have done it.
This man created some of the most unforgettable images in cinema history. David Lean and Freddie Young - absolute masters of their craft. Dr. Zhivago and Lawrence of Arabia I have both on bluray and watch them regularly.
Beautiful images.
