Disney’s “Young Woman and the Sea,” the extraordinary true story of Trudy Ederle, the first woman to successfully swim the English Channel, is coming to theaters nationwide in a special engagement May 31, 2024.
Daisy Ridley stars as the accomplished swimmer who was born to immigrant parents in New York City in 1905. Through the steadfast support of her older sister and supportive trainers, she overcame adversity and the animosity of a patriarchal society to rise through the ranks of the Olympic swimming team and complete the staggering achievement - a 21-mile trek from France to England. “Young Woman and the Sea,” which also stars Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Stephen Graham, Kim Bodnia, Christopher Eccleston, and Glenn Fleshler, is directed by Joachim Rønning and written by Jeff Nathanson, based on the book “Young Woman and the Sea: How Trudy Ederle Conquered the English Channel and Inspired the World” by Glenn Stout. The producers are Jerry Bruckheimer, Chad Oman, and Jeff Nathanson, with John G. Scotti, Daisy Ridley, and Joachim Rønning serving as executive producers.
“Young Woman and the Sea” will open in select theaters May 31, 2024.

I went to see Wicked Little Letters yesterday... A small British movie but all the better for it. Based on an event... or series of events.. that happened a hundred years ago. You'll know pretty much from the start what's coming but still very entertaining.
Last year, they released "Dashing Through the Snow", "World's Best", "Crater", and "Chang Can Dunk". The year before that, "Rise", "Sneakerella", and "Better Nate Than Ever". I take it you don't watch as many movies as you think you do, or you most likely don't have Disney+, which is actually where they have been releasing most of their original content.
It's the movie we need. Not the movie we deserve.
I miss Disney making inspirational sport movies like this, this is the type of movies that they need to make more instead of lazy remakes and franchises. It's also nice to see Daisy Ridley getting more opportunities in different movies, she can be great in a movie when she's given the right material to work with

Remember when Disney used to make inspiring feel good sport movies like Remember The Titans, The Mighty Duck, The Rookie, Miracle, Cold Runnings, Invincble, McFarland USA, Million Dollar Arm, etc? Yeah, i remember them and i wished they make feel good sport movies like that so with this, it's a breath of fresh air in the middle of what they are doing these days

Nyad in the post-credits scene: "You think you're the only long-distance swimmer in the world, Ms. Ederle? You’ve become part of a bigger universe. You just don't know it yet."
Diana wasn't even born yet. But I bet they probably talked to her and other women long distance swimmers to learn more about the sport.
Even though the film will only be available in select theaters, It’s good to see that this film is getting a theatrical release instead of having it be relegated on Disney+.
Personally I think more original Live-Action films should get Theatrical releases instead of just having them be relegated to just the Live-Action remakes or IP sequels.
Especially since the last time Disney produced/released a film not based on any of their intellectual properties was back in 2016 with the release of _"Queen of Katwe"_
Disney hasn't done inspirational sport movies like this a lot so it's nice to see them doing this again
But what are we paying for on D+....its not really fair to put in theaters, like what is gonna take its place on D+.......

I’m glad to see Daisy Ridley is doing well after all the hate she got as Rey in the sequel trilogy

Apparently she closed her Instagram account after people were trolling her, this was a year after The Force Awakens
I never see her as Rey also she sounds like an old lady
I didn't like her character in Star Wars but she did her best with what she was given, it's not her fault that Rey sucked. And yet, I'm still interested to see what else she does next. And with this, it's a both breath of fresh air for Daisy in doing a completely different role as well as Disney's return to make inspiring feel good sport movies like they used too

I can’t believe Elizabeth Olsen was originally gonna be Rey. She and Daisy Ridley have amazing accent changes.

Disney and Bruckheimer teaming up again, now that is something I never thought I see again
A partnership that resulted in the Disney movies that stand out to me in this day and age, especially in the world of Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars as well as the live-action remakes.
I read his filmography, it's insane how they haven't collab in 7 years since the fifth Pirates came out. Bruckheimer and Disney used to be like a married couple
@@BryanCostner It's because he has primarily been making sequels to franchises owned by other studios based on films that he produced before that string of Disney/Touchstone collaborations began (Top Gun, Beverley Hills Cop, Bad Boys, etc).

Could this be Disney, the 21st century and American female swimmers' answer to Chariots of Fire? They're both about the 1924 Olympics.
In any case, I think this is going to be brilliant. These biopics about the impossible tend to make you wonder whether the main character is going to make it, and squeeze your heart in fear as they try, despite knowing in your heart that they did succeed.
Daisy AND Chris Eccleston in one film? This is super exciting 😍

This documentary could bond with Glory Road. It's also set before Will met Tonto and before Dr. Lily Houghton bonded with Frank Skipper. After the Olympic record in this film, there was Tarzan. Then came Dumbo. Before all that, came Pirates of the Caribbean, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, A Christmas Carol, The Greatest Showman, The Lone Ranger, Cinderella, The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, Alice in Wonderland, Alice Through the Looking Glass and The Jungle Book.

So excited to see this movie, and so glad some content on this sport and this inspirational story.
I'm exhausted just watching the trailer. Maps out as 2 (or whatever) hours of emotional crescendo and climactic closing lines.
I so want this to be as good as the trailer paints it out to be. We need a good soul-lifting Disney movie in these uncertain times, and Disney need a hit movie to help bring them back on track.
