I miss Disney making inspirational sport movies like this, this is the type of movies that they need to make more instead of lazy remakes and franchises. My 22 year-old daughter is preparing to swim the English Channel. She wants to complete the Triple Crown (The English Channel, Catalina Channel and the circumnavigation of Manhattan Island) of swimming. She is far-beyond driven and no doubt will accomplish this amazing feat!
Remember when Disney used to make inspiring feel good sport movies like Remember The Titans, The Mighty Duck, The Rookie, Miracle, Cold Runnings, Invincble, McFarland USA, Million Dollar Arm, etc? Yeah, i remember them and i wished they make feel good sport movies like that so with this, it's a breath of fresh air in the middle of what they are doing these days

Personally I think more original Live-Action films should get Theatrical releases instead of just having them be relegated to just the Live-Action remakes or IP sequels.
Especially since the last time Disney produced/released a film not based on any of their intellectual properties was back in 2016 with the release of _"Queen of Katwe"_

I went to see Wicked Little Letters yesterday... A small British movie but all the better for it. Based on an event... or series of events.. that happened a hundred years ago. You'll know pretty much from the start what's coming but still very entertaining.
Last year, they released "Dashing Through the Snow", "World's Best", "Crater", and "Chang Can Dunk". The year before that, "Rise", "Sneakerella", and "Better Nate Than Ever". I take it you don't watch as many movies as you think you do, or you most likely don't have Disney+, which is actually where they have been releasing most of their original content.
I didn't like her character in Star Wars but she did her best with what she was given, it's not her fault that Rey sucked. And yet, I'm still interested to see what else she does next. And with this, it's a both breath of fresh air for Daisy in doing a completely different role as well as Disney's return to make inspiring feel good sport movies like they used too
Incredible movie!!! Had me in tears. As someone who ran their first marathon last year and training for their second this year- seeing this movie now in the midst of training was so inspiring!!

I read his filmography, it's insane how they haven't collab in 7 years since the fifth Pirates came out. Bruckheimer and Disney used to be like a married couple

Daisy Ridley is at her very best here. Young Woman and the Sea is an all-around incredible film and one that you could easily argue is still the best film of 2024 if not top 3. There's nothing like a true story with this kind of heart and presence. Fascinating. Deeply inspiring. Profoundly well-executed. This is a Tour de Force performances from Daisy and the main cast. It's also the crown jewel in Daisy's early career as far as I'm concerned.

The determination of the human spirit is something we always need to be reminded of. Life's challenges & failures can ruin the human spirit but being reminded of those who came before us & the challenges they overcame can recharge our own spirit to keep fighting, have courage & find another way to succeed is always needed for the human race. This documentary could bond with Glory Road. It's also set before Will met Tonto and before Dr. Lily Houghton bonded with Frank Skipper. After the Olympic record in this film, there was Tarzan. Then came Dumbo. Before all that, came Pirates of the Caribbean, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, A Christmas Carol, The Greatest Showman, The Lone Ranger, Cinderella, The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, Alice in Wonderland, Alice Through the Looking Glass and The Jungle Book.
I did a presentation on Gertrude Ederle when I was in 7th grade (almost 15 years ago) and I’ve never forgotten her name! So glad that this icon is getting a film ❤
It's too bad they didn't get an actress who was 5 ft 5 inches and 141 pounds like the real Trudy Ederle. And not quite as pretty. Trudy was amazing. That should be enough!

These biopics about the impossible tend to make you wonder whether the main character is going to make it, and squeeze your heart in fear as they try, despite knowing in your heart that they did succeed.

Just read up about her. Based on what I read it doesn’t seem like men in 1926 were apposed to women swimming the English Channel. Weird that the trailer seems to hint at that. I mean, they made a movie about a female channel swimmer that she guest starred in in 1927.
Yes. The all movie is about how women did not know how to swim, how they were not allowed to swim, yet all of a sudden they have a team to send to the Olympics in 1924... If the movie was really just about Trudy and the hard work and what it demands to be such a great athlete, mentally etc.. Great. But the 55 first minutes are really hard to watch as they is so much nonsense. I almost stopped watch after 3min, 14 min, and 30 min.. I got a o force myself to get to the part she goes to France to cross the channel, where finally the movie start getting something watchable.
I just met a guy from the crew last week and learned that it was shot almost entirely in Bulgaria, including in my hometown Varna and the shore around Kavarna, so it will be interesting to see on the big screen.
American Accent Daisy just hits different. God I love her, she is so talented! I can’t wait to see this and the trailer just hit me right in the feels.

We don't know how the people that crosses before her identified because of the patriarchy. Maybe Trudy was not the first woman.
This actually looks like a GOOD Disney movie! (been a long time since I've said that...) Glad to see Jerry Bruckheimer back on the Disney scene once again since POTC!

Jerry & his wife have a ranch in the small town my Grandpa was born in. Grandpa's sister did cartoon drawings for Disney back in the day of painstaking hand drawings!
It's wonderful movie! even more exciting for people who have already had the experience of swimming in the sea.
My favorite part is when she says, "It's swimmin' time," and swims all over the patriarchy. Literal chills!!
I can't wait to see this movie, hopefully in a theater (in France) 🙏🙏🙏🙏
