Fun fact about Iroh is that he redirected a natural lightning bolt in the storm episode which alluded to his ability to redirect lightning as it is shown here
Azula is a bigger threat than Zhao and Zuko combined. And it’s moments, like her conversation with the ship’s captain about the tides, that make me want to hide behind the couch
@DDD11239 so by that logic a kid who spends all their time studying with not many friends starts making death threats like a psychopath at 14 years old you have a twisted world perspective
oh and the way i read it, the scene with both Iroh and Zuko cutting their topknots is not only because they are now fugitives or a metaphor of them moving forward. the topknot is also a symbol of status, especially in Japan, which is a very big inspiration for the Fire Nation. the samurai had a topknot called chonmage, which became a symbol of their higher social status, a samurai without one was seen as "less", "a man without honor" (see the parallel with Zuko?). people from the Fire Nation, but especially higher class, also have a topknot. so, them cutting it, means they're renouncing their status and privileges as royals, their status as citizens of the Fire Nation and symbolizes them abandoning their pride. it humbles them. it will be interesting to see how...
See the parallels between Aang and Zuko. They both get attacked by their own allies in this episode. Zuko by his sister and Aang by the Earth Kingdom General. You'll see more parallels like these in the future. Their life story is a lot similar and they learn similar lessons even though they are not traveling together
Season two starts with a bang. Azula, Azula...great antagonist. She is everything Zhao wishes he could have been. She is smart, extremely gifted, three steps ahead of everyone, ruthless, loyal to her father and her nation, merciless, cunning, and deceitful. They are going after Zuko and Iroh because according to Zhao, Zuko freed Aang. And, Iroh interfered with the siege of the Water Tribe after the battle was essentially won by the Fire Nation. They need them out of the way. Notice a few things. When Azula tells Zuko that Ozai fears his enemies and wants his family back around him, Azula looks away. A common trait of people lying to you. But, the next day she learns from that very minor mistake. She looks right at Zuko and Iroh when she directs the captain to set a course for home. She even throws in a cute head to the side move. And, when Iroh redirected her lightning strike it saved Zuko's life. Zuko doesn't know how to redirect lightning. So, that attack was meant to kill not capture or subdue. Azula's fire is blue because her fire burns much hotter than normal flames from the average fire bender.
they will explain it later, but for now, yes, that lightning technique that Azula does is part of Fire Bending. we saw back in Book 1 that Iroh redirected a real bolt of lightning, the same technique he used with Azula's bolt of lightning here. a fun fact for Magy: General Fong (the Earth Kingdom general that tried to trigger the Avatar State) is voiced by Daniel Dae Kim, the actor who plays Fire Lord Ozai (Zuko's father) in the live action. isn't that cool?
This episode starts in such an interesting manner, showing us a more fearful of his powers Aang - he realized that every single time he entered the Avatar state, he lost himself. Princess Azula feels similar to season 1 Zuko, only more ruthless. The way she manipulated Zuko, tricking him into thinking their father wants him back - low, low blow. Uncle Iroh saving the day went a long way to remind Zuko who his real family is, who his only family is. The cutting of his ponytail scene - good observation, Magy, signifies Zuko's willingness to move forward. The way that Earth Nation general constantly pushed Aang the entire episode, using Katara to push him into the Avatar state and then reaping the rewards of his idiotic plan - it's not easy to watch but at the same time it's an important reminder to both our little group and the viewers on why it's important for Aang to master all the elements first. Thank you for the epic reaction, commentary and discussion ❤
This season introduces some pretty amazing female characters. Azula is a prodigy like her father the FireLord and able bend not only fire but lighting as well. Toph, I can’t wait for you to meet her.

Also, guys, at 11:11, Azula was originally going to fry the captain on the spot for that mistake but was deleted bc it was too dark

that 12:50 was harsh and the worst part is that zuko should already know that, because zhao told him exactly the same in season 1 ep 2.😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢

Provoking Aang into the Avatar state is like provoking Banner into becoming the Hulk.... not a great plan! ❤🐺
With the same results.
Good refrence that both will understand!!
Zuzu... What a way to use alternative word for Oni-chan 😂

Season 2 and 3 are just a completely diffrent beast. Season 1 is really good but 2 and 3 are just insane
Not sure if you're aware but General Fong is voiced by the same actor who played Ozai from the Netflix live action show
Sokka: He can talk the Fire Lord to death.
Me: He may not, but his grandchildren do.))))
Stop! Stop spoiling.
