  • Theresa May relinquishes her leadership of the UK Conservative Party tomorrow - here’s what you should know about her legacy.
    » Subscribe to NowThis: go.nowth.is/News_Subscribe
    In world news now and Brexit news today, the Theresa May resignation (Brexit related) is set to happen today June 7. We recently saw the Theresa May resignation speech signaling to the UK and the world that the conservative leader would be stepping down.
    Theresa May resigned from office on a bitter note ,her tenure dominated by what was largely regarded as failure after failure in the drama of one of the most divisive, confusing, and heavily-covered news events of the past couple years: the country’s impending exit from the European Union.
    In the years since the Brexit vote, May has negotiated with parliament and the EU in an effort to arrange a deal that both sides would agree on. Resultantly, every deal she’s attempted to pass has failed.
    In March 2019, she even offered to resign if the latest version of her deal passed. It didn’t.
    It’s also worth noting that not long after the Brexit vote, she became the first world leader to meet with U.S. President Trump after his inauguration, and despite hopes of a U.S. - UK trade deal that would offset the losses of leaving the EU - she didn’t really establish a rapport with Trump.

    Reality is she took a job no one wanted. She was set to “fail” from the very beginning. Anyone in her position would have met the same fait because parliament handicapped her every step of the way. I’m glad this video does a fair look on her legacy

      Yes good point. It was a very uphill battle from the start and sadly I think many in the Torries knew that her tenure would be short

    • @wilverbal
      @wilverbal 2 года назад

      Well, no. She inherited from her predecessor a narrow majority of seats in the House of Commons, then she called an election that she could've easily won with a much increased majority, and then she threw it away with poor decisions. If she hadn't bungled the 2017 election, she would've had a Parliament with way more MPs supporting her agenda. She wasn't a victim of circumstances. She was a victim of her own poor judgment.
      Also, plenty of people wanted the job, not "no one."

      He was our prime minister at that time don’t forget!

    I'm an American it just seems crazy that she won the Prime Minister roll be her opponent dropping out. Was there only one opponent? I was under the impression every party puts forth a potential like Lord Buckethead.
    But, man Idk how I would have dealt with it either. I don't support it but I must do the will of the people. Must be a terrible position to be in. I would have pushed for referendum instead of any deals. because the majority of UK's voters didn't even vote, correct?

      Her opponents for the role of Prime Minister were squabbling and backstabbing each other - Theresa May looked sensible and mature by contrast.
      So she easily got the position of Prime Minister as her rivals had ruined themselves by what was seen as clumsy attempts to became leader.
