What is not mentioned in this video is that the embargo on Cuba is the longest in modern history and is one of the most comprehensive. The UN General Assembly has voted every single year since 1992 to end it and with unanimous consent every single time except for the US and Israel. These countries simply ignore the resolution. A majority of economic experts agree that Cubas lack of economic growth is largely because of these sanctions. Not at least historically because a lack of education or institutions. It has completely stunted the economic development of Cuba and has risen to the level of economic warfare and genocide. It bars all forms of trade completely that are in the interest of Cuba and its purpose is to make Cubans poor and destitute. Before someone complains about "OMG socialism!" @@Rommie26 @Romeo26 Not really. The embargo not only disincentivizes trade, but also outright economically punishes nations/corporations that trade with Cuba by barring them from the US market for long periods of time. So China has to be clever to work around the embargo. Did you know that medical supplies bound for Cuba from China didn't arrive because the Colombian vessel that would have to complete the shipment wasn't allowed to do so? Did you know that the US and Israel were literally the only two nations on earth to vote 'No' to lifting trade restrictions.. and because they're in place at the order of the US they'll just remain in place regardless? It gets deep. Ask yourself this: if Cuba was given the freedom to do business with whomever they please, whenever they please, would they still be in this situation? Don't deny the impact of this six-decades long embargo, which only exists because Cubans, once upon a time, dared to chart their own path which ran counter to what the US decreed for them. 1) The embargo started with Cuba stealing all the US owned factories there, then aligning themselves with the country that wanted to nuke us, but close enough to actually do it. 2) The embargo doesn't restrict food or medicine. While there was speculation the travel restrictions limited the flow of medical information, the internet is a thing now and the whole world has travel restrictions because there's a pandemic. 3) Russian oligarchs took all Cuba's money in the 80's, which did far more damage than the embargo ever did. 4) Obama did a LOT to re-establish relations with Cuba, including offering a tractor factory, fiber internet, ferry service and a cargo ship to and from Florida - most of which was rejected by Cuba. Especially the tractor factory. It was going ahead until Castro found out one of the Americans recently obtained Cuban citizenship - and Cubans aren't allowed to own factories in Cuba, because that's how communism works (it would probably work better without greedy dictators at the top). To put things into context the sanctions against Cuba have been longer running and more extensive than the ones against Iran. Let that sink in. Further Cuba is on an island which makes any sanctions far more devastating. Further countries like Saudi Arabia that abysmally horrible we do not sanction. In fact we are military allies and sell our military equipment to them despite the fact their government ordered US citizens to be murdered on US soil.
I'm pretty sure Cubans live longer than Americans, have less child mortality and score better one tons of different criteria, Cuba trains more doctors and debt from "lunch debt" Americans grew up with to student loan debt too many Americans die with, are not things there.
Whats sad,is major pharmaceutical companies have everything these people need...and what do they do? Nothing. Because there's no profit to be made on giving away medicine. So many wealthy people could literally help all these people. And where are they? Sitting in their mansion with way more than they could ever need or want.
How about you stop blaming people that have nothing to do with it (there was literally a ban on import and it is still in the grey area) and start blaming the actual regime responsible? I swear it reminds me of when the communist dictatorship in my country (before the revolution) had the leaders talking about “western imperialist agents” being responsible for everything. they even made up a story about how america threw bugs from planes to our soil so that we starve, it was totally not caused by monocultures in agriculture made by commies and just crazy and irresponsible allocation of resources. Please, don’t speak about our struggles when you know nothing about it except for what the western lefties say. We have to be responsible for our own mistakes, or our leaders mistakes. It isn’t our own personal fault, but the communust revolution didn’t just happen out of nowhere, our great grandparents did this. It isn’t fault of the west. Anything else is just bullshit. My country became one of the wealthiest in the world (so still low income country for european standards) in just 20 years, from gdp per capita of 2 800usd to 38 000 usd per capita. Thanks to capitalism and our own policies that helped us to do trade with other countries to the point of being the “eastern european tiger economy”. Cuba is a beautiful country and I believe this struggle will only accelarate the revolution that is about to come. Americans failed Cuba when Cuba was protesting for reforms and freedom, and young americans just ignored all they said and just said it’s the fault of America for not giving cuba money basically.
Sadly this report neglected to mention the reasons why people suffer in countries that have sanctioned by the U.S for decades. Interestingly enough people in third world countries don't ever get to see the poverty in North America.

End the criminal US embargo and alot of the problems will be aliviated. The main way of exporting goods is via ships and if countries from Africa, Asia, Europe want to export to cuba they chose not to because ships cannot go into American ports for 180 days. It's obvious most companies will then choose to not trade with cuba so they can earn higher profits in the US.
Don't get me wrong, I feel for all who suffer from a failing health care system. But, Michael Moore gave me the impression Cuba's health care system is superior to what we have in the U.S. Does this mean we, in the U.S., are suffering even more than the Cubans?

“…The island nation doesn’t allow foreign journalists to operate freely in the country” If there was any lingering doubt as to the clownshow manifesting this struggle for these poor Cuban people…
0.001% embargo, 99.999% mismanagement. When a country as rich in land and resources and entrepreneurial spirit as Cuba has to import 80% of its food, the embargo isn't the problem.
I am from Jamaica . We have no embargo. We are cuba's neighbor and we have access to everything..............just can't afford these things. I hate our government.
Thank you for pointing this out. There are many countries in the global south that are not communist and do not have harsh sanctions yet still suffer from REAL access to basic needs.
Cubans actually have higher life expectancies than their neighbors in the Caribbean, the real problem the US has is that Cuba offers an example of life outside the wings of Western economic control and that's why the USA does everything to sabotage Cuba. Because if Cuba thrives it will show other countries that they don't have to settle for economic exploitation by the west.
@yourmanwatson Every body hate MMF, mostly of them who have huge depth. But nobody mentioned MMF when they spent this money back in the days. No MMF, no problem, nobody give loans to save you, so no any money

What is not mentioned in this video is that the embargo on Cuba is the longest in modern history and is one of the most comprehensive. The UN General Assembly has voted every single year since 1992 to end it and with unanimous consent every single time except for the US and Israel. These countries simply ignore the resolution. Well it sure makes a difference when the US and other states have sanctions on Cuba since 70 years.
They can still trade with China and Russia
@@Rommie26
@Romeo26
Not really.
Also, it's an island afterall. Compare it to other Caribbean islands and you'll see that generally over the course of its communist history it has performed significantly better than its "free-market" (American pet state) peers *despite* the embargo.
@@GhoulsWinnfield Cuba is isolated because it basically doesn’t pay its bills. It has burned every bridge and doesn’t allow free enterprise to flourish. Communism is a dead-end.

You can't see how that cycle is perpetuated by trade restrictions? Even if they had a free market, who would they trade with under an embargo this restrictive? Turn your attention to calling for the US to lift restrictions and let communism fail on its own then if that's what you believe. Otherwise you're playing a part in American economic imperialism. They tell the rest of the world what the rules are and demand everyone play their game; all rule breakers will be crushed. The embargo is just a tool to economically destroy Cuba and cause an uprising.. and when that happens you'll still blame communism.
theyll always blame it on socialism though
