There's a guy near my hometown who collects/builds safari-porsches like the one shown at 0:20 He's so famous in the community that Porsche made a documentary about him^^ He has one Martini-livery one (because of course) which he did the Transsiberia-Rally with, and now its his daily driver. Quite the sight in a random parking lot XD

I dont think Audi even sells that to customer privateer teams. You can buy a car just like Loeb's for 600k tho, a century c6 which rwd but very reliable and competetive is popular for privateer teams is 300k and the cheapest but still competitive car is apparently 150k.

An engine is measured for horsepower with some pieces of the system missing, while brake horsepower is measured with every component in place. As a result, brake horsepower measurements include more frictional losses, which results in a lower figure. Bhp is the figure usually calculated and used in Europe, while hp is used in the United States.
Short: the power on the wheels = brake horse power. You measure it by applying a brake on the wheel. Engine horse power = straight from the engine shaft. That power experiences friction losses through the transmission to the wheels.
Man those costs has reached stratospheric levels compared to when those cars raced for the first time in the real Dakar! ... Guess this is not meant to stop soon. Life will be expensive from now on. Better not to born on this planet in the next future
Disgusting the amount of money it costs to take part in a race in a desert. It keeps so many real talents away from the sport who could have made the race even better. Racing is and should be about passion rather than the big money. Sad, but that's how our society has become.

Yeah Dakar is exiting to watch and adventurous... but the sad truth is Dakar is a super expensive ELITIST HOBBY. Just like The Americas cup yachting or F1 or INDY or NASCAR it really has nothing to do with regular people.... the ones standing on the sidelines, observing.

Romanians have a running ARO Proto V8, the same that raced in 1985 Paris Dakar and won Pharaos rally in 1984. Would love to see some muscle power!
