My father was a Marine from 56 - 61 back in the 70’s as a little kid and thru the 80’s ( my teens & early 20’s ) I can remember him pulling out a C Ration from WWII and opening the box , his favorite was potted meat or Vienna sausage or Spam on a C Rat cracker. I can close my eyes and see him spreading the potted meat on a C Rat cracker and chowing down with a big old smile on his face and the look of disgust on my moms face 😂😂 and then he’d open a desert. I can remember the boxes of Camel filter less cigarettes and the Chiclets gum. Unfortunately he passed away back in January of 2020 but I can tell you one thing I know for sure if there truly is a heaven dad is eating C Rat potted meat , Vienna sausage or Spam on a cracker and smoking one of them Camel cigarettes on a river bank.

Great video. I wondered at the beginning if anything would be edible. Interesting story. I have friends who were very hairy. They looked like they were wearing shirts, even at the beach. ( Front and back.). This was when we were in our late teens. So its possible that your buddy was eighteen.

Gads, I remember these as a kid. My uncle was a chopper pilot for the Army back in the 70's. Going back to, let's say mid-70's.... Gads, I'd have been 10 or 12. My WWII-era step-dad said they were quite similar to the C-Rations of WWII/Korea; just a few extra options for the most part. Anyway; first thing always. We had to hand over the cigarettes. My uncle barely smoked; but he gave them to his friends and wanted to keep them from us kids. We really, really liked the spaghetti and for the most part; the canned beans and sliced hot dogs. The lima beans were most decidedly NOT good. We were allowed to use the stove; and the cooked chunks of quasi-meat/spam were not bad at all cooked, especially with eggs over easy and tabasco. The cinnamon cake was average; but the chocolate cake was always a hit. I recall disliking the coffee; but I was 10-12, so not yet a coffee drinker. My 'ol Step-Pappy said it was "Fairly Middling', but D*** good if you don't have anything else, especially when you're cold and it's hot." Wow.... Memories. RE: The Spaghetti ? It was our favorite by far.

i realize there are other channels that test and talk about the modern freeze dried products but you might want to consider featuring some of these new products if you run out of "old" mre and c rats , i think people enjoy your style of presentation and your stories from your time in the corp. @@bbgothviolator8953 I was in the Corps when the first modern day terrorist attack happened. That was in Beirut, Lebanon and a truck bomb was set off in front of the U.S. Embassy in Beirut. The attack killed 63 souls, including 17 Americans. Later the same year (1983), a truck bomb was exploded inside the Marine Barracks by the airport. That explosion killed 241 Marines and Sailors (mostly medics who were taking care of sick Marines inside the sick bay in the building). A French barracks was bombed the same day. I was not in Lebanon when that attack happened. It has been reported that Osama Bin Laden watched that unfold and when the U.S. decided to pull out of Beirut after the attack he turned to his aides and said, "The United States is weak." He began planning the attacks that ultimately became 9/11 shortly after. Anyway, while in Beirut, we received rocket fire near one of the posts I manned. Nothing bad happened around me while I was there. I received an Expeditionary Medal for serving in Beirut, like everyone who served there at that time.

LOL, the dreaded spagetti can. They were bad and blown up in the boxes within a couple of years of production. It was just say NO to be safe on those...
Such as sodium, fat, sugar.....the reason I ask is because I love the First Cast seasoning but im dieting and trying to loose weight and have to keep a close watch on those things
Love the ol mre but gotta try testing the newer modern day and comparing the taste of new ones and memories(9f the old) from the old day kinda compare the difference.

Took basic training at Ft. Leonard Wood Missouri in August of 1974....the C-rats we were issued during field training still had cigarettes in them

Anyway, while in Beirut, we received rocket fire near one of the posts I manned. Nothing bad happened around me while I was there. I received an Expeditionary Medal for serving in Beirut, like everyone who served there at that time.

Mike, I believe they would be. One guy who was in the AF back in the 60s said his unit was eating C Rats from the WW2 era when he was active duty.
With fall coming up you should really try to have a MRE with the FRH that you can actually use.

It is a FishRite 22' Aluminum boat with an outboard jet intake engine. I bought it new in 2007. FishRite is no longer in business. TFW!

Shelf life was 25 years, with proper storage. I think you went beyond that.
