I did a video of this pedal (stock). I kept saying mid-boost instead of mid-cut; probably because it SHOULD be a mid-boost! Nice job! I just use my Boss EQ pedal with the reverse "V" mid-boost and it works. I'd love to just have it built into the pedal. Hmmm...

Should be pretty easy, the switch swaps between two capacitors in the tone stack (3.3n for normal and 1n for mid cut if I remember right), if you just swap the smaller capacitor for a value higher than 3.3n than that should be a mid boost. I'm guessing here btw, I need to track one down to try this out myself lol

Listen people, this pedal works excellent if you know how to use it! It took me a while to figure it out, I only got it a few days ago. I used to run it to a Joyo Vintage Overdrive, then to a Joyo American Sound. I found that it got muddy with the overdrive, so I just switched it off and used the American Sound pedal, which is basically a preamp pedal. I adjusted it to suite the Voodoo Octave and it has a very clear sound. The Voodoo is somewhat 'quiet' on it's own, so I would recommend some sort of signal boost (perhaps even the same Joyo American Sound) which should come after the Voodoo. My fuzz knob is at 11 o'clock, tone knob at 3 o'clock and the volume at 9 o'clock. American Sound: low-12, mid-1, high-12, level-9, voice-3 & drive-12.

Also, you need to use the guitar's neck pickup. It's the best way for it to work.

Sounds like a C1 cap upsize as well as the final cap but I think the little feedback cap might be bypassed also or changed to a much smaller value thus cutting off less. Crazy good result

    • @BlueBarrier782

Worth a shot anyways. These pedals are 30 bucks, lol.

@@BlueBarrier782 always worth modding. I just make my own now and literally only own a compressor sustainer and a Delay- Looper factory built.
Making a good fuzz pedal is easy. Making one able to easily integrate into a pedalboard a little more complicated.

the two pedals are quite balanced ,. In my opinion, to get more than expected, it needs to be supported by other aspects such as amplifiers, guitars and tones on each player's fingers.
I still think that everything is returned to the taste of each ear regarding these two pedals.
.fuzz is loud, strong and sharp, play with creativity, don't be too complicated, color the beat and melody, add modulation, then let you really be yourself.

    • @MSMWorkshop
      @MSMWorkshop  4 года назад +3

Stock, there's a lack of bass. The modded one is much fuller. Listen at 0'53. You'll won't need artefacts (equalizer, push the bass on the amp, that will be too much one bypassed ect..) once the pedal is modded. Some pedals are just not that good stock. It's the case of this one.

The mod sounds less compressed, and the octave on the mod doesn't kill the tone like the original. On the mod, the mid boost didn't make a big difference, but it sounded like it added a bit instead of cutting them. I just got this pedal today. What are your mods? Sounds good, btw

I got one and I definitely need to do this mod. Mine is new but it seems they did not fix the issue with the caps. Another issue I have is that the volume when engaged is quite low, and even on max it is under unity. I read, you can change a part - an emitter resistor - and it will lift the volume. Can someone verify and maybe give more info on that?

I've got the Voodoo Octave, but even WITH the mod, I just don't hear the "Octave" bit... I hear some added high EQ, and some OVERTONES, but NOT an ACTUAL octave up TONE... Is it just SUPER subtle, or what?!? Been playin 25 years, and this is my FIRST fuzz...

Octave up pedals work using the neck pick up and play around the 10th - 12th fret and beyond and best for lead lines up there. No one seems to know this for some reason. Good luck.

Way better mid range selection on the Switch. (Stock, the mid cut kills everything, modded you have a mid boost. You can hear it easily on the demo.
Then, octave with fuzz is really harsh and muddy in stock form. Modded the tone is clearer, better définition.
      Listen again..
