Sr. Fröst. Gosto muito de ouvi-lo nesses vídeos. É brilhante e talentoso. Deve ser muito famoso, com certeza uma celebridade da Arte.

Aww I wanted to hear him do the lip slurs in the first part. Technically very impressive but I don't really get the "swing" feel from him. I would have personally liked him to play it closer to Artie Shaw's recordings of it but this interpretation is cool too.

Dang! Where's the famous high C4 at the end? Martin was fantastic on that tune! I am sure Artie would have loved this rendition. I miss the high C4 ending! It's not what I'd call Jazz but good enough! Bravo, Martin!

I love Martin Frost... but this was no swing and a miss. I think he is one of best clarinetists today, however, this performance missed the nuance and warmth of the genre.

This is absolutely bang on. He is an incredible clarinetist with technique that is matched by almost nobody in the world right now, but he's not a swing/jazz guy lol.

I also love Martin Fröst, but why do classical musicians always have to try to play jazz? And all critics think they do it perfectly. How would it be if jazz musicians played classical music?

@@jazzherbert Have you listened to Woody Herman's band's recording of Stravinsky? (He wrote a..."jazz" piece for that band.) As you hint at, it's equally as awkward in the other direction.

@@colonelburak2906 Hello, I didn't know the recording, but that's supposed to be a jazz concert. But you are right, there are of course examples of jazz musicians who play classical music (Benny Goodmans Mozart concerto) - and not very well. The difference, however, is that jazz musicians have usually studied classical music up to a certain level, but do not perform it publicly in large concert halls.

honestly martin frost was fine doing this piece i felt like he didn't have enough swing. I play clarinet and drum set and the drum set "solo" in the beginning of this video i played that same beat during my jazz concert.

IMHO Andreas Ottensamer's recording of this piece is better. I feel like Martin was making it a little too hungarian or something whereas Andreas does a really good job of getting an "american" feel.

His a fine clarinetist, maybe one of the best now, but this performance lacked any trace of Jazz and lacked warmth! I have never heard anyone nail this piece like Artie Shaw, certainly not Frost.Classical yes, Jazz no way!

  • @milosmilojevic2376

Nobody of classical players can play this music.... I don't know why are they doing it.. They think this is like a easy gig for them... Also classical audiences don't really generally know and understand jazz music. Jazz its just other lenguage...this is like me as a Serbian trying to speak Japanese... He is a great player but if he wants to play it he should just listen and practise more... Simple
    Cheers

It "completely" misses the target. Not jazz. Not even close. Martin Frost should stick to what he does best - incredible pyrotechnics that are suitable for a circus. I'm not impressed. Not at all.

  • @unclemeestah

Martin Frost is in the same league as the pink haired bari sax player, Leo P. Amazing, yes. "The Flight of the Bumblebee" is most impressive. Musical??????? ??????? Has it come to this? What happened to the likes of Arthur Rubinstein and Vladimir Horowitz and Jascha Heifitz? I'm not impressed. Not at all.
