Neneh was such an original artist(Her music is so refreshing) nice to hear this song again after such a long-time 🙌🙌
She's still around.
The song was written by Neneh, her husband Cameron 'Booga Bear' McVey (the guy in the video) and Robert '3D' DelNaja (from Massive Attack). A 12" single of this song was also released at the time, which included a Massive Attack remix.
Later Cherry and McVey helped Massive Attack a lot with the production of their debut album "Blue Lines". You have already reacted to 2 songs from it. But maybe you should also check out "Hymn Of The Big Wheel", which Neneh co-wrote.

“Manchild” is my favourite Neneh Cherry song, I like that song ever since I was 5 years old I was introduced to it when my Dad played it in his car. I think my Mom also likes this song too.

(4:35), because, that's what this Song is ABOUT; The 2nd single from her game-changing Album, "Raw Like Sushi", the Song SEEMS to be about a loser of a Man....but, Neneh's giving hope to HERSELF, about being creative, original, and seeing HER vision, through her Music....
- ....She doesn't want (or her Baby) to become a "Manchild", so she's indicating to herself that staying on her path, she will become successful, and her Music will get everyone movin'.... This tune peaked at #5 in the UK (the USA didn't get it, we got "Kisses On The Wind")....
- ...The Video also, was WAAAAAAY ahead of it's time; Jean Bapiste Mondino did the Video, with it's Kaleidoscope-like effects & Images; It was influenced by Prince's 1988 Video for "I Wish U Heaven", also done by Baptiste, but Neneh had the BIGGER budget..... a CLASSIC tune.....

Jean Baptiste Mondino also directed Madonna's Open Your Heart, Justify My Love, Human Nature, Don't Tell Me and Hollywood music videos among other artists.
I always feel like she dropped out too early, she had a lot to offer. ❤

She attempted a comeback in the 2010s. She released 2 albums with new songs, "Blank Projekt" (2014) and "Broken Politics" (2018).
Both are very good in my opinion, but unfortunately received very little attention. That was probably because there were a lot of good songs on both albums, but no really chart-worthy hits.
One of the most 90s sounding hits from the late 80s. Ahead of its time.

My fave track!!!!! Way before it's time. Nellee Hooper created the track, who worked on Madonna's Bedtime Stories album, and her song with Massive Attack, I Want You. My aunt turned me on to this album. We used to jam in her car to the cassette. I was 7-8 years old when this came out.
The credits on both the album and the 12" single state that the song was written by Neneh Cherry, Cameron McVey and Robert '3D' DelNaja. Nellee Hooper is only credited as co-arranger alongside Cherry, McVey and Wil Malone.

Are you sure you're not confusing him with Cameron McVey (aka Booga Bear)?
But maybe Nellee Hooper was part of the Bubble Bunch, which is credited for the production of this song alongside Booga Bear.

I believe that it was Nellee Hooper who produced Madonna's song Sanctuary on her Bedtime Stories album if not more on the same album.

Always great to see you back, Empress! From her next album 'Homebrew' came a great song called 'Trout', a duet with Michael Stipe from REM. Similar vibe but much, much funkier. I think you might like it better than this song, as great as it is.

E! No shout out to the video’s director Jean-Baptiste Mondino?? Girl, the Madonnaphiles are gonna come for you. 😱😉 I was 17 when this came out and, like you, I appreciated Neneh staying true to her authentic self. Not my favorite of her tunes but it’s cool. ✌🏽
