As much as this is a hell no from me I will give them credit on one point: at least they’re being upfront about the data collection thing. How many companies already collect your data but bury it in the fine print and tiptoe around it when questioned? Especially on a product that I PAID for?

I think the double screen layout like that would do better in the high end monitor space. Take out the soundbar and slide that bottom screen up to the top one, maybe angle the bottom one up a little or have it on a hinge so it can be adjusted to people's preferences. People could use it for displaying/monitoring system temps and such, some editors might also like it for the little bit of extra screen real-estate where there might normally just be a gap between the monitor and desk

I remember I accidentally did something similar on my parents old TV. Don't remember what brand it was or where they got it from ( think it was on the curb being thrown away). It was one of the really fat tv's probably a 40 inch or so. One time I don't remember what I was trying to do, but it opened another screen ( pretty tiny though) to a different input. I remember thinking that would be a great feature to play video games with lol.
The whole split screen thing also makes me think back to the old south park episode where Chef gets a fancy TV he doesn't know how to work lol.

I'm with Matt on this, a second screen that gives you the latest scores from the premier league could be really cool, I don't like the way this is implemented, but the tech if used correctly could be cool...but no way am I having a camera spying on me, and that's not even getting into the potential risk of hackers getting access to the content.

Personally I’m fine with my data getting sold. The only issue I do have is that $500 (or since I live in the UK and if they ever decide to bring that here the equivalent in £s) fine when you disconnect from the internet. Now normally I would think there has to be some legal reasons why they cannot just charge you that $500 fine when the reason you are disconnected is either to just change Wi-Fi or is your power gets disconnected by accident so at the very least I would expect some form of time closure with how long can it be disconnected off the internet for before they would even consider you to be charged that $500 fine, but if it doesn’t have this such of closure and it literally does say you always have to be connected too the internet then yah I would consider that as a complete scam since it’s seriously unfair to get charged a fine that’s not even your own fault.

How is this not equal to predatory lenders? This seems to be targeted to those in a lower economic tier who can not afford the $500 TV from Walmart. They give up their data for a free TV so companies can target ads to them for things they can not afford but now purchase because of the marketing. This drives them further into debt causing them greater financial harm in the long run. What happens when they stop paying for internet because money is short one month and now they are charged $500 for the "free" TV that now goes on their credit report because they can not afford the $500 to start with, hence they got the free TV.

I have an old 720p TV that's only 32 inches and even with the relatively low prices for better TV's, I'm poor, and I do not have $200-$300 to buy a low end 4k HDR TV. Hell, I need to upgrade my graphics card and other computer components soon and that will have to go on a damn credit card and I'll have to hope I can get a decent price on Amazon so I can take advantage of my Prime card to get 0% interest for 12 months and pay it all off before then....
There are a lot of people who would like a new tv but don't have a budget to get one that are probably going to end up signing up for this. Not sure that is the demo they really want since we also can't afford to buy any of the advertised products/services that we'd be bombarded with constantly on that 2nd screen, and a lot of us probably have shitty credit on top of being poor. People who can afford to buy the products/services that the advertisers actually run to support this thing, aren't going to be the ones who sign up for it. It's going to be mostly poor people who can't afford to get a new tv otherwise.

I don't care if some tech 'bro' is watching me. Ring cameras know where I am. The business I work at has cameras (also all business I go to). Dozens of apps tracks me. People talk about how cameras on cars now watch you (the naked tesla driver). Even hotel rooms have secret cameras.

Though I agree this Telly thing is a complete scam, I think the form factor itself can be modified for a more desirable product, especially in terms of security, with even a built in webcam cover.

They should call this thing a 'telescreen', but George Orwell was wrong about that one. A 'telephone' that citizens were required to carry at all times would have been more accurate.

and what and when they get hacked, what in the fine print will let them get off scott free/? As far as tv new feature, you got that one that could be turned vertical for a more phone oriented video . . . . . . . Curved tv, for when you want only the people on the couch to see any part of the picture . . . . Maybe multi sync detachable screen . . so you can aim parts of it at an angle . . . . Nintendo DS TV

Just tape over the camera and either destroy the bottom screen or install a custom rom on the tv so you can use the screen for something useful, if you did that, you wouldn't have to tape over the camera either. You should also block them from your bank.

Yeah no, because when you sign up for the TV, you are also signing a legally binding contract, and they can take you to court to get their money if you mess with the TV in anyway shape, or form.

Cool! That will only cost you 500 dollars, plus the price of the rom. Blocking them from the bank? Please tell me you are not that naive.
