Oh mine, the roads of Dhaka is an adventure it itself, apart from the constant honking. It's a fun experience to share with friends and relatives back home provided you come out alive. As a Singaporean, it's a different sight and sound to me.

On 21 November 1971, Indian and Bangladeshi forces created a joint command and started combined offensive against Pakistan forces in East Pakistani territory. In response, Pakistan attacked Indian bases on 3rd December. So the war began way before 3rd December 1971 as opposed to what many Indians claim.
We know that, we just say that we also helped Bangladesh a lot in their freedom struggle. Financial, militarily and diplomatically.

Dhaka's bus is worst. Government has plan to replace all the unfit ones in 2026
They implemented traffic but it doesn't work in a city like Dhaka rather it created bottle necks in many places in the city so they discontinued the policy, but you can still see plenty of leftover traffic lights

when comparing Dhaka with any cities of India, one must bear something in their mind. India was independent in 1947 and was independent without any war. That means India got their infrastructure relatively intact. But Bangladesh got it's independence in 1971 and it got it's independence after a bloody war. Everything was demolished when we got independence. Now compare the rate of development and you will find Bangladesh and Dhaka amusing
Actually getting everything destroyed is better. It helps to replan the cities from scratch. Thats why u can see european cities are better planned. American cities too as they were planned. Indian cities were never destroyed so that why we cannot plan them from scratch like varanasi, prayagraj and other cannot be replanned from scratch as these are ancient cities which were not planned according to motor vehicles.
But New indian cities like chandigarh, new delhi, gurugram, noida, greater noida, Gandhinagar, Ahemdabad, Surat(its old but still planned), Navi mumbai, jamshedpur, Bhuwaneshwar is very much modern and planned unlike Dhaka (no offence buddy). Even islamabad is very good as compared to dhaka
@@Mirrorlash@Mirrorlash That is an interesting view. To explain my comment, I am not claiming Dhaka is a planned city; I was addressing some comment that was trolling Dhaka. To give a background, after independence, Dhaka just grew without any planning, and that makes sense since Bangladesh was in a survival mode from 1972 to 1990. Since 2010, Dhaka has gone through this phase when Planning took precedence. Gulshan and Purbachal are newer parts of Dhaka, which is quite well planned. Metros and expressways are introduced now. I personally don't compare Bangladesh with India since we belong to a completely different league. Regarding Islamabad, that city was planned entirely out of nowhere and built-in 1967, siphoning money out of Bangladesh (former East Pakistan), especially from our Jute export. There was a famous quote from Shiek Mujib "I find the smell of jute from Islamabad's roads". If a country takes other people's money, building fancy cities is easy, and that's why Pakistan only declined after 1971 since East Pakistan was not there to exploit. That also applies to most of Europe. No Africa, no fancy city in Europe. We subcontinent people didn't do that. We built on our own earned money.

Bangladeshi people do acknowledge the help of Indian army for their liberation. But it wasn't as big of a help as most Indian people think. The war was already 99% over and West Pakistan was almost lost by the time Indian army joined forces with Bangladeshi army. But we do appreciate it.
By the way, Dhaka is not really a travel destination. If you want to explore the real beauty of BD, you may want to consider some other places outside of Dhaka.

"Mukti Bahini" is a Bangla phrase. "Mukti means "Liberty" and "Bahini" means "Team/Force". So "Mukti Bahini" means "Liberty force". Back then East and West Pakistan were one single country, so we had one singular army. When the war started, the army obviously took West Pakistan's side. All the East Pakistani members of the army left their job. Some got arrested or killed. Some escaped and regrouped in the east. In short, East Pakistan didn't have any army to fight with. So all the civilian youngsters of East Pakistan formed their own army called "Mukti Bahini". They trained under those ex-military people and fought for our liberation.
