Bob, Brian great job defending Fendt, not defensive just factual. I'm a 78-yr old farmer and owned most of the colors during my time. All machines break regardless of the color of the paint. On our farm we are color blind. We pick the color based on price and the dealer support. We have looked, but never found the perfect machine. Stay the course. Great family channel, everyone in our family watches down to the 5-yr old great grandson. Keep um rolling.
I also follow the channel that you referenced having engine issues with a Green Machine. They are also good people; good family channel and they take care of their equipment just like you do. Bad Stuff just happens to good people and any color of machine.

Great video. People hate on AGCO products (especially, it seems, Fendt Ideal Combines). The later model Ideals are not the same combines as the first model years that were produced. AGCO has worked very closely with their dealers and the customers to address issues and concerns in order to improve production and machine reliability.

Good to hear on the reliability issue. We tested one last fall and got along good with it, except we had an issue with it in beans trying to get to the end of the field when started to light rain. On the earlier models. Farmer 30 miles east had numerous issues and updates. This year he traded it for two Gleaners. Had some factory issues with them. Loose bolts, gearbox etc.. Find out at end of season how that turned out. Also tested a Claas last fall. Really liked it and it's features. We will be getting a newer combine before next fall. Don't know which one yet, but it won't be a Deere or a Gleaner.

We’re happy with our 2x 9t Fendt’s - 1 machine was a dealer demo unit w/ just over 150 hrs on it (engine, Sep hrs 85) & the other was a new unit. Bought for our custom operation, we had more header issues (HoneyBee) than with the combines but even those were relatively minor - broke a belt & broke a couple of cutter bar teeth. When you’re trying to pickup wheat with the header basically on the dirt crap happens. Beans aren’t much different!
We run John Deere as well, X9s - MacDon heads. No different - they had their issues too but ya just work thru ‘em.

I have followed the Brown family for some time. This year they have really gained my total respect. They farm hard, follow their family school and sports activities and share the way life is when you work with machinery and the weather man. There are darn few days when something doesn’t go wrong and how you react to those things tells me a lot about why some are successful and some are not. I think the Brown family is a winner.

Love the videos, really like watching that 50’ bean head. We have terraces and lots of hills and steep contours here or I would definitely make the decision you did with the single combine. I think Fendt went the correct direction with the 2 rotor machine for many reasons. Single rotors like to toss the crop mat heavier on one side of the shoe, also gives you more room above to crest a larger grain bin. The reasons go on and on. I think Fendt is a great machine but because of our terraces and slopes we will definitely stay with Gleaners (accelerator rolls) on this farm. Keep up the good work, always fun here on this channel!

  • @JDseller1
    @JDseller1 3 месяца назад +14

Brian We demoed the one and a few issues but in general liked the machine. We will have a fair amount of wheat to harvest next season and we have already leased a 2024 Ideal 9 for next harvest. It will have around 300 hours on it. Also we will be raising more acres of soybeans, normal and double crop. We really liked the grain sample out of the Ideal machine. About 25% of our 2025 regular crop soybeans will be seed beans under contract. The Ideal should help us get some seed quality premiums.
I will say that I really doubt that the Ideal will beat our CIH in corn. So our plan is to run the Ideal in the small grains and the CIH in corn. The main reason is our local AGCO dealer is still local only. Both JD and CIH are now part of a large chain of stores. They do not seem to really care as much as they did when they were smaller.

I’m so glad you aren’t having trouble. I was worried, I just know if I had the trouble Mike Mitchell had , I wouldn’t have been that patient. 6 or 7 new combines choked down , a couple times a day, taking over an hour to clean out. I would have had to be sedated probably. Of course, those were new out and I’ve never even seen a lintel in the field, much less thrashing them. Maybe there tough . Where I live , down rice would be the toughest to thrash. Hope it continues to do well for you.

Breakdowns are interesting - the insides of JD's engine as shown on Larson's, their other major breakdowns - the only reason I watch. Lots of days just to watch the engine amazed at how you can see from one side to the other and the damaged crank. Dad hitting a bridge - pretty boring. I was 21 when I hooked trees at the edge of a road with a header while roading the day before photographers were to arrive for a photo shoot. You guys did quite well. You did have feeder chain problems - you don't remember the old days when Gleaner's whole advertising was centered on NO FEEDER CHAINS - and then the N series came with not one but 2 sets of feeder chains and the Marketing Manager retired. So great season, no fire department, lots of dust from the feeder (we tried to suck that dust into the feeder house at Gleaner but dust happens). No tractors down for the count and renting an AGCO tractor from a neighbor. You're doing super boringly well.

Thanks for the awesome video Brian and family. Fantastic video and was super interesting.
I always am amazed at where some of your fields are located. Nothing wrong with that, just not used to that. Our Iowa farms are flat and relatively not too much hill country. I can see where your travel time takes a bit getting to some of these areas. Most of them are quite beautiful looking with the trees and landscapes. Some really nice areas. Just not used to your lay of the land. Every area in farming in the different states is different. You do nice work traveling to all of these areas. My compliments to you.
Congratulations to Bob and Brian for speaking up about the combine. I have seen some of your comments you get and I do not know why people do that.
I have always felt your combine was a good choice and I appreciate Bob speaking up about how he feels about it. Your service rep has been really good to you folks. Most of your down time has been self damage and not the machines fault, just like Bob said. Overall your machine has done real well. I watch six other farm RUclips channels and others have issues also. Larsons lost a complete engine. Another IH machine had major internal issues. So they all have issues that develop. ZK the Deere technician has worked on some heavy duty breakdowns also. That is farming. Big equipment takes a beating working in our fields, just the way it is.
Thanks Bob for speaking up on behalf of your machine, overall doing very good.
Hang in there. Not all of us throw negativity at you. No reason too, farming is hard enough the way it is. Appreciate what you do as a farmer!!!!!!!!!!!!
Like the way you started the video Brian. I thought Kayla was going to hit you up side the head there-like your happy Happy line!!!!!!!

If you look into the issues with the Mitchell’s Ideal combines, most of them were related to no one really understanding the machine. The Mitchell’s themselves or the dealer that sold them. It was unfair for Fendt to get a bad reputation from that.

I catch crap all the time about my Mahindra tractor. It's our second one. AES is an awesome dealer and have always been there to help us. Our new Kubota hay mower had trouble. Got to keep getting new gear. Technology is your friend. Back in 1974 my grandfather passed. He left my Dad, an only child, a modest amount. Dad decided to buy a new tractor. $4750 I believe. 55 hp 2wd Leyland. Anyway my younger brother was working on the farm and was discing new ground. Suddenly the tractor erupted into flames from the front. The battery clamp had come loose, arced on the metal diesel feed line from the fuel tank. The diesel pooled on the rubber mat over the battery. My brother was quick thinking and headed for a pond. He almost made it but the tractor stopped running. The fuel line was cut and he was stranded, only about 50 feet from dunking the fire. The tractor burnt to the ground, tyres right off it it was such a hot fire. Fortunately a new tractor turned up soon after. There was a fight of insurance v warranty etc!. The replacement was a great tractor and worked hard until the farm was sold in 1981.

Brian, y'all ever consider getting a smaller older combine to get those hard to get to fields. The goat paths!

I agree with other comments this is your first full season wheat, soybeans, and corn it's going to be a learning curve. As your dad said they all have problems. Larson's lost an engine on a 360 hour John Deere this year. Hopefully like your dad said once you get the bugs worked out it will turn into a great machine. It's awesome to see how quickly your father learned to operate the machine. Seems like you got more seat time it the Gleaner last year, lol.

Really enjoying the videos Brian, claas seems to be market leader here in Europe,so being an MF man,its nice to see someone saying positive things about the ideal combines, machines now adays are meant to break down, even if its a lawnmower,so keep up the good work, get the harvest home, and all safe and sound

All I can say with any new equipment your gonna have problems it's just a learning curve and usually it's self induced problems like you and Bob both said. Also dealer support is the most important piece when buying and owning new equipment.

It´s like with any equipment, you gotta run what works for you and what you feel comfortable with and what makes the most sense. Tools being used get dull or break, totally normal. Turns out Fendt´s don´t like canola and mustard, so be it. With varying grain sizes you have to swap around concaves a lot, so we run Claas and NH.
Also obviously makes sense to pick a dealer that´s close to you and has good service.
