I’ve seen the Green Man while taking a small amount of psilocybin. The woods came “alive” and formed three beings: a dancing woman, a dragon, and the green man playing a lute. A mind-blowing experience to say the least.
Wow I danced on my own in 1996 with similar substances with an oak tree for a whole night and hugged it on my come down xx
Very cool
Was up all night and saw loads of tree beings Inc green man ,Peter pan type guy,old man, baby and a little person. only some of us can see them. Even if not on any substance. Takes concentration like how u stare at one of those 3d hidden art pictures and it appears. They are real🤗🤗🤗
@@kateyporter8593 I see them when I stay up all night too. We live in a universe that has infinite possibilities of outcome, therefore anything you can envision or see is absolutely real. If you’re looking at the woods and it looks like an elf party, it is an elf party; in some reality it actually exists, and we just catch glimpses when we have open minds and third eyes.
I grew up in Hastings, UK, where we still celebrate May Day by "sacrificing" the Jack in the Green/Green Man to release the spirit of summer. Everyone wears green face paint and flowers in their hair, there's lots of music, dancing, singing and drinking, and we all follow the Jack in the Green up to the West Hill where he's metaphorically slain. It's a great time, but a strange thing to explain to people who didn't grow up with it!
That sounds like such an enriching tradition to grow up with!!! I love it!!
That sounds amazing! I wish I had grown up with a tradition like that :)
@@ScarletRavenswood It's something you don't quite realise how unique and special it is. Until you end up in a different town and they're like 'Wait... your town sacrificed someone?' 😆
A slice of tradition to be cherished. I live about 2 hours from Hastings and never heard of it unfortunately.
Does it still happen? I'm gonna be there next year if so x
I had seen the green man once, I was with my wife in a real estate office signing papers purchasing our house one late spring. I looked out the office window and saw a large green tree with what looked like a full cherubic face blowing with the wind at me smiling and having fun. I was besides myself but was trapped in that office and could not say anything during that meeting. I did not know about the "Green Man" at that time. I look at it as good luck buying our home and it has been a blessing from God, thanks God.
I like the Green Man and I thought Sabrina the Teenage Witch season 3 didn’t do him justice.
Definitely agree :)
I 100% agree. It made me uncomfortable how the show almost demonized paganism...
I loved that show but season 3 made me verry upset too...🙄
Yeah I don’t like how hey painted us pagans and the green man as evil or bad /:
A bit like watching a turd and expecting high philosophy from it.
I have seen the Green man many times as a child and as an adult...I saw him last week...I felt the urge to look out my window and my eyes went straight to a tree I did not have to search for him I never have..he's shown himself to me many times...every time it's either a smiling face or a look of wisdom...I have a strong connection with the Green man he's very real to me
I never heard of the green man, but i drempt of him when i was a teenager. His reflection was in a pond, and it was as like a portal separating and connecting us at the same time.
It was as if we were a couple, but he had to leave me. I was left upon waking up with this extream feeling of saddness and loss.
PS, i am a christian.
This dream has always haunted me tho, and now im ready to find him.
You've never heard of the Green Man? Go to any garden section in a store and look for decorations. The Green Man is really prominent
You have a connection to a god so strong and still be a christian? 🤔
I had someone repeating green man in my mind and something else related to him at school
Yes. I literally had him in a dream / vision... my eyes closed staring straight ahead he kept reappearing.
I wanted to see something else actually. Anything else.
Perhaps a pretty girls face... .
But "jack" was hard to dismiss.
I had a room mate like him once.
Pain in the arse. Lol
Yeah he comes into dreams.
The evening mists that creep and crawl will drench me in dew and so drown. RIP Peter Steele.
Type O negative was such a good band man. Rip
The Green Man is in the Wild Wood Tarot Deck. In the books A Song of Fire and Ice the 3 eyed Raven could be Viewed as the Green man with the Children of the Forest.
I met him and had just talked to him in my dream. I forgot already what he told me. Tho I saw him as one of my guardian while in quest meditation.
I collect images of the green man. The older the better. The most prized images are those in old stained glass windows. Very rare and extra awesome
do you post them?
Show us please!
The Green man has nothing to do with Wicca; Wicca is a modern construction.
So was Christianity when it first began. Wicca is medieval Witchcraft reborn.
I love your videos. They are so graceful and full of dignity and respect while still being interesting and informative
Thanks! :)
Totally agree!!
Awesome song by Type-O-Negative
Yeah The green man is everywhere in Gardens as ornament that hang on the gate in the UK there pubs called the green man all yeah churches too plus Christmas carol > The Ghost of Christmas present remind of the Green man
You're totally right about the Ghost of Christmas Present, I forgot about that one. 🌿
Scarlet Ravenswood 👍One of my favourite stories with Charles Dickens plus The wicker man 1973 film as the green man
Thank you so much for the warm welcome. I can already tell I'm going to enjoy your channel very much, it's just emanating with such a great wisdom and spirit
The Green Man came through in my morning meditation which caught me off guard. You were the only option that came up when I was searching for info on him. I find this interesting..What you spoke of completely harmonized with what came through in my meditation. Appreciation+
I have been infatuated with The Green Man ever since I was little. My dad had a carving on branch that he hung on the wall. He had it before I was born. I keep seeing him throughout my life and when I see him, it makes me feel "home." I never knew the symbolism behind him, I just knew I was infatuated..
I’m working on a painting of the green man right now! I’ve always felt a strong connection with him, even as a child. This video helped so much!
I was kinda pissed by the representation of the Green Man in Sabrina season 3. There was almost an anti-environmentalism undertone to the storyline (though probably unintentional).
Hi Julia, I agree. While I love the show as a whole, their depiction of the Green Man was disappointing.
I found the whole depiction of pagans was really disappointing
@@alexw6168 at that point I stopped watching, it was just so negative and full of harmful stereotypes, esp. since pagans are much more obscure and have bad reputation already
Given how they depicted Satanists, I think its highly unfair to expect them to depict polytheism positively - regardless of them having a practicing witch on the team (notice the set designs have actual sigils and protective crystals in every room in the Spellman house! There's an article on her/the witch's influence in the show.) It's fiction and it's going to depict witchcraft in a fictional light - plus given the undertone of Lovecraftian horrors, it's clear the old gods are based on the old ones of cosmic horror.
@@alexw6168 I was going to say the same thing. Love the show but wasn't a fan of the Green Man being a bad figure or pagans being the " bad guys".
There's also Tom Bombadil from Lord of the Rings. I went on a trip to the mountains a few months ago and all along the gravel trail up to the cabin there were green man faces on trees to mark the way. They were all different and added a fun element of whimsy to the journey.
That's awesome! Tom Bombadil is definitely a great representation of the Green Man archetype :)
Tom Bombadil rocks, I was gutted he was not in the films. I really wanted to see him put the ring on then give it back with a "meh"
@Strange Fruit Hey, you don't have to be commercially driven to like Lord of the Rings, lol. I read it in middle school which was way before the movies came out. I say that simply to note that just because something is popular does not mean that this is the reason people like it. I think most people who enjoy Lord of the Rings, (even those who came to it through pop culture) can like it for its own merits. It's so fun and thought provoking for people of all ages! And it would be sad to intentionally exclude it from reference for that reason.
I do understand the whole bandwagon aversion though because that is something that I have had to cope with as things that I've loved for a long time have become popular. (The rise in popularity of witchy culture and aesthetics is a great example of that.) I used to wish things like this were more mainstream mainly so I could have easier access but after that happens it does tend to take away some of the charm. I have to actively check myself on that because why wouldn't I want others to be able to experience something positive? The idea that this lessens the experience for me is a piece of my shadow self that I am learning to cope with.
My dad woke me one morning in a panic. "You see stuff that is weird, what IS this," he led me to the living room, "is it a demon?!"
I looked at the shadow where he was pointing, "Oh! Not in the slightest! It's The Green Man!" Clear as day, his planty face in shadow. I looked to see which plants were casting it, "He's blessed these peppers, and they will be fruitful. "
I went back to bed. From early spring, well into autumn, we had a bounty of various breeds of peppers.
He's real, like the others, as long as you truly believe and don't make egotistical megalomania driven arrogant demands, you'll see what's really out there, no altered states required.
I'm shook. I saved this video a few weeks ago to watch later and first thing I hear is "hope you had a great lupercalia" like. Yes, yes I did. Seeing as lupercalia just ended yesterday and it was a nice snowy weekend in the PNW
I saw stone carvings of the green man when visiting Rosslyn Chapel in Scotland. An amazing historic building
I'm the editor of the Journal for the Study of Religion, Nature and Culture, and we just put into production a special issue 'Searching for the Green Man,' which little doubt, you'll find valuable. Publication will be summer 2023.
Great video! I was pleasantly surprised to see one of my drawings flash up (third eye green man) thank you for sharing
Growing up in Hastings the Green man festival was the highest point of my year. "Greenman: the Archetype of our ones with the earth by William Anderson" is a fantastic book for further reading. As a Panthestisc pagan, I love the common themes across cultures the green man speaks to.
The Green Man is an astrological creation combining the three elements of the Air Trine. Aquarius ( The Man) Gemini (The Mind) and Libra (The Plants).
In Brazilian folklore we have two deities that serve as a green man type figure. Curupira, who protects the forest and Caipora, who protects the animals
Green Man in the "Men" movie that was just released in May 2022.
I visited Roslyn chapel in Scotland and there’s incredible details of the green man and flowers leaves and angels. It shows that pagan beliefs of earth spirituality was still present within Christianity. I like the book Sacred Earth Sacred Soul, which talks a lot about that very thing.
Peter Steele
Nice video, the Greenman and the horned God resonate to my core . Nature can't be tamed.
Here after seeing Alex Garland's "MEN"
He is my god, he is the one I ask for help and use from my Alter doing practice for ill family and friends.
I saw him in the trees a few days ago and then received a new deck yesterday that has a beautiful card of the Green Man. I know this to be synchronicity & am now trying to learn more about him - thank you for this video!! 💚🙏🏻
Wow... thanks for the idea. Now I'm thinking of the green man as an "All Father Archetype". I always thought this, but simply thought that I didn't understand the green man very well... I guess I understood him better than I even knew.
Plus he doesn't bug you unless you smoke weed... he's always trying to smile...in modern times he lives in solitude.....and yells at mirrors...and random stuff....then eats pizza 😁
I've been practicing for quite a while but I was never practicing around any spirit/deity until a few months ago when i started to become interested in the green man as more of a concept or something to base practice around in a symbolic way, the next time i went to the meta shop after I started with that they had a green man incense burner, since then I've noticed that my offerings are more meaningful and whatever little spells or rites I do seem to have more of an impact, I'm still testing the waters of working with him but so far it has been lovely
I really like how you described the Green Man in your summary!
LOVELY VIDEO. I've got lots of wall reliefs of various green men and they have different leaves and berries which symbolise the differrent seasons. Plus there is the battle each year between the oak king and the holly king. All pointing to nature, fertility and continuous rebirth. I have studied hard and have not found any particular deighty though. it seems like a masculine form of mother nature or Gaia.
The coronation invitation for King Charles (UK & Commonwealth) features a prominent Green Man.
It's interesting going back and learning about this figure after watching the movie MEN
The very first metaphysical shop I visited on my path has him in their store sign🌿💚🌿
I had no idea about the green man but I’ve always had a strong connection to nature. I’ve always said that when I pass I want to be made into ashes and thrown into nature where I can be reborn again into a tree 😌! Crazy thing is, we just moved into our new home (me and hubby) and I have a strong connection to this tree, who I now call Mother. I feel like I’ve been connected to her all my life. Sometimes I feel like that is me, so weird but such a reality in me.
Wandered in here after seeing the Green Man in Sabrina. I found it fascinating, and wanted to see how their interpretation stacked up to the Real mythos.
i remember the Green Man on Maelstrom at Disney World as a tree with a face haha
The Green Man is a major figure in "The Spectred Isle" by K.J. Charles. That's where I learned about him!
ALL HAIL THE GRASS MASKS!

The Green man is the number 4 major arcana card in the wildwood tarot deck. The emperor- Divine Masculine. Thanks for this. It added some depth and clarity to my life. ❤️ you are appreciated! Love and light
In 1992 I seen the green man in West Virginia. It was so real . I had in a tree just his face and he is so funny . He just was laughing and laughing and he was not alone there was female faces also and they also were laughing 😂 it was amazing
Who else is here cuz they just watched Men???
A tattoo would be awesome
Great topic and nice video, like the music and motion affects. Subscribed
I seen him in my dream before i ever heard of him
How do i join the Wiccan religion. I'm in Africa, Ghana to precise. Can you please help me to be able to understand the Wiccan and witchcraft so i can grow in my spiritual life
If I was you, I would try to connect with the traditional spiritual practices of your ancestors and the region you live in/where you are from, if possible. This will probably be easier for you and yield better results. Good luck!
Learn as much as you can about Wicca, I highly recommend Scott Cunningham books. Such as "Wicca, a guide for the solitary practitioner". (The book is downloadable online as PDF) Learn as much and start living like one, than you will be true wiccan

I'd like to Lubricalia something!
Greenman has nothing to do with Wicca..it was a feature of carved furniture in medieval churches and cathedrals, symbolising the bringing of wood to life
yes but the green man predates Christianity. it most likely goes back to the stone age Indo-European gods.
I was just searching for Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia clips of a a character by the same name but I'm pleasantly surprised to find out there's a mysticism/myth (sorry i dont know the right term when it comes to paganism) of the same name. Will definitely watch later!
same here. now all i can imagine is Charlie using Green Man as a way to learn more relating to a newfound interest in pagan mythicism
Dude...I thought the Green Man was Snoop Dogg 👽🌿🚬
Thanks for not having a dumbed down video!
Good one brother. i like that. HAHAHA... ROFL.
im trying so hard to watch your videos but i can barely watch 20 seconds before clicking off to do something else i am so sorry but i just wanted to say that your videos are so incredibly helpful usually im a dumbass who can't understand shit and misunderstands a lot but your videos they are great they teach me a lot and your voice is so so soothing you have like a video on every topic i look up about paganism im so thankful you exist
Ummmm it's Peter Steele, obviously lol
i was scrolling through the comments to see if anyone would mention peter as the green man. his song Green Man is very much the perfect pagan/wiccan song in tribute to the Green Man. glad to see your comment!
ruclips.net/video/RNXBh82kI6U/видео.html. 😁
@@thedrabfour Yassss Stephen!!!
So the Green Knight sacrifices himself to men but then a man must sacrifice himself to the Green Knight at the end of the cycle 🤔
I've spotted him many times most recently in my backyard fleetingly.
Your awesome Ms. Scarlett! Love the weekly chats! Vaguely remember you mentioning that you were from DFW... wondering if you know of any great places to forage for herbs etc. around here...? Thanks for your dedication to providing useful information regarding witchcraft.
By the way, he looks like the statue BUT, he is NOT old looking...His hair is made of ivy, and his green skinned face is beautiful.
I saw him in a dream once and he looked like you described. Also quite young, like early twenties. He seemed very relaxed and happy.
My first experience with the Green Man actually involves a retelling of Robin Hood. I think the book was called "The Green Lady" and it involved Maid Marian running off to become a healer in the forest. One incident involves her thinking an injured Robin is actually the Green Man until she snaps out of her day dream. Through out the book Robin as Green Man and Marian as Green Lady is brought up. I need to try looking it up >_< find out who wrote it and if she did anything else.
Edit: My bad. It's titled "The Forestwife". I'm gonna see if I can't order it, because now I'm just gonna read that again and see if it stands up to the tastes of an older Barb.
We saw the green man at Eureka springs Arkansas at several of the natural springs
Not only that, the green man and many other names are the representation of the force of the material, growth etc. The goddess is the spirit that gives it life, turns the wheel. none can exist without the other.
Thx for explaining the Type O negative song for me
Veles is the Greennan in Slavic Paganism/ Witchcraft
Also the Woodwose (wild man or wild woodsman) was sometimes associated with Green man in Europe. Interesting topic, the archetype of Green man and the Woodwose have existed for many centuries.
Two years ago along the Idaho Montana boarder...Along the Lower fork river,Lolo pass....I was unaware that I had walked into some sort of...water celebration...something!?Until I was looking back over pictures I had taken,a year later...I have a perfect photo of Greenman watching me from the bank of the river...And some other snaps I took of my camping spot...but captured all kinds of swimming water creatures and little woodland spirits, shape changing creatures...That only were in the first day pictures...all the pictures I took after that are somehow different, the water current isn't the same...no creatures...I have a strange time stamp too...5 hours different then the others I took at the same time, minutes apart....I really have 2 stories about my 7 days camping at this place...the one that I lived, and it was peculiar...then the one I have after I looked back over the pictures a year later...My dog also was not herself there....I really need to talk to and show my pics to someone who knows what I'm babbling about! But big green and natural looking...watching me take pictures....
Hi I'd like to compare pics I have one of very similar things
@@Zeropointagape Ok...I'm good with that.Id like to have some other opinion, and am curious about your photos and story...I've been researching all stories....can't seem to find anyone else telling a similar one. You?How to show you my pictures?Let me no...
Easy, Peter Steele.
This helped me understand this figure a lot better 👍
Green man, Dionysus God of the wild places, so much more than the relatively tame Bacchus of the Romans Herne the hunt's master , a god of wild places joy and nature the antithesis of modern society.
I remember in year 3 we were learning about celts and other religions and paganism was one of them, as part of the research we had to learn about the green man it’s was so cool man!
The Green Man was also featured in Hellier season 2 but they made it sound like there was an underground cult-type-thing happening. I would definitely take it with a pinch of salt lol
Alizza Bliss_TAW That show was trippy! 👍🏻
mother earth heart anahata portal beings - all the green
from osiris to poison ivy and everything inbetween
maybe :)
Hi! I'm so glad I have stumbled upon your videos and welcome to Texas! Howdy from DFW! I just wanted to add that in some cases the green man can be interpreted as Cernunnos and they have strong ties to one another in Wicca and in some casual, celtic beliefs. I know you said you started out as a wiccan, so I'm currious if you've heard this too and what your thoughts are about their connection.
Loved this video wish i could send you a photo as i have a green man growing in my vines in the garden. Also to day has been a revelation i have found my path and your video has helped me also thank for your videos or i would still be in the dark. Love & Light TEE
Green man is actually charlie kelly
The aurora borealis is green. I remember someone connected the aurora with the green man and how he protects us. Magnetic field maybe?
Is there any record of actual green man sightings, like there is bigfoot sightings? Or is it simply a symbolic pagan thing?
Mother Earth (Goddess) and Father Nature (The Green Man/The Horned God). The same deity but different aspects. One represents rebirth in vegetation while the other, rebirth within the animal kingdom. "Mother" Nature is actually masculine. LOL Perhaps just the combined forces of the planet.
Scarlet I think you got Imbolc and lupicalia mixed up, unless you celebrate the Greek holiday that created valentine's day. Imbolc is on the 1/2 of February. Lupicalia is around the 15th Feb...
Blessed be...
Jesus has vegetative qualities. He was sacrificed and gave his disciples his body and blood to eat and drink just like John Barleycorn is cut down and made into bread. Cernunnos is both Hunted and Hunter who gives his body to eat, yet he is immortal and ever renewing.
My son is a natural Green Man.
Who is the real Greenman? Who has Greenman painted on his coronation invitation?
Hahaha I always wondered why my Grandma used to say that the Green man was devil worship. I was so confused cause you’d see him in people’s gardens and sometimes even around clueless churches I guess. How interesting.
Green man is also a festival in Wales
So…I had an alter to someone who I didn’t know the name of, I just knew they were there and Everytime I asked who it was, Green is the only thing that showed up. So my brilliant self kept researching Gods even remotely associated with the color green…never for 1 sec thought he was actually telling me his name…I feel brilliant 😂
I know of the Green Man through OSP and Armored Skeptic's Tin Foil Helmet. I want to learn more about him. I'm also writing a story and one of the main characters is a deity like being and I noticed some parallels between him and the Green Man. Funny coincidence. Might lean more into that angle.
The Green Man isn't a myth. I am the Green Man. I am the Guardian of the Earth #MysticShaman
I am Groot!
I liked HARVEST HOME. by Thomas Tryon.
Betty Davis was in the movie.
That was a perfect fit.
Lol
It is called Dokkebi in Korea.
This may be an obvious answer, is it correct that The Green Man is connected to the Celtic deity Cernunnos? Or are they separate beings?
Yes, I think there is a connection between Cernunnos & the Green Man :)
Jethro tull song "beltane" mentions the green man in lyrics
The Green Man must support Hibernian FC in Scotland, because they play in green.
