Hi! This was very informative and helpful. I love my ZZ plants and have had a few of these issues. I've had 3 different plants in the same soil for many years and have been thinking that I need to repot them. This video confirms that. I'm just nervous about doing it because I don't want to loose any of them. I appreciate your thoroughness on each problem they may have. Thank you so much for sharing! BTW, it might be helpful if you show us a plant with the "problems" you talk about. A lot of us appreciate more visuals when talking about things.

Very informative video. Thanks for sharing. My 3 year old zz plants have maybe two thick stems and every new stem that comes out is very thin. It also lets out shoots very slowly. The leaves are glossy. overall it looks healthy, except for these very thin stems that eventually start to droop under the weight. My raven zz has not produced any new shoots in over a year. What could be the problem? Please help! Much appreciated. Thanks a lot

Thank you so much for your video. I am in Northern California and I work in a big box retail store that sells a lot of ZZ plants. We haven't had them very long and a lot of people don't have a clue how to take care of them. On videos of other stores they show Raven ZZ plants but they have not come to Northern California as of yet. Unfortunately it gets hotter than Death Valley up in my area as in 122 degrees in the summer occasionally. Oftentimes the houseplants come in very very dry and wilted. Sometimes I can bring back the dehydrated ZZ plants oh, but the ones that gets snapped off in half oh, there's not much I can do about that. And the plant venders put them in little Bonsai containers and glue them into the container with little Pebbles. So I can't tell what kind of soil is in there or how wet they are. Also many of the ZZ plants are sold in pots that have no drainage holes in them. So what kind of soil do you recommend for the ZZ plant?

Ironically it is the first plant I ever killed by just overwatering once which eventually led to irreversible root rot...while all my other plants including some fussy ones are thriving... my lessons learnt is that it has less room for mistakes compared to other common house plants.

I was so afraid to over-water zz, that I was not giving it enough water and saw shriveling stems. I gave more water, and I think it is now shriveled because it rotted and lost most of its rhizomes but still has some lively roots. It is lying on the floor now with bare roots while I scramble to find answers what to do with it and how to report it. I got myself a clay pot to help me with future over watering and I am contemplating what soil mixture I need as perlite mix did not help me it seems (heading to your good drainage video now :D ). Any suggestions how to save it, will rhizomes regrow?

I have had these years a zamioculca that has had good development. For a period of time it has been exposed to a few hours of sunshine through a window, in a fairly hot place. When perceiving changes in the leaves (folds, color changes), we moved the plant to a cooler and shaded place. The point is that, although they continue to grow offspring, the rest of the stems have been dying, and the offspring when they develop, begin to develop leaves that end up yellowing until they get sick again. We have transplanted with new substrate at the recommended time, we respect the watering cycles, we fertilize as recommended ... We don't know what is wrong, but it keeps getting worse. What can we do about it to save it? At the moment we have removed several leaves that we are trying to propagate separately and then replant in the same pot. Help! Thank you!. Greetings.

    hello
    i'm new to your channel.
    i🖤my zz raven
and hope to be a good plant daddy. your video helps. thank you.
but, may i pose a few questions?:
    when repotting
    do you recommend removing
    most-or
all existing soil from the plant?
or simply bump up only a size
larger than your current pot, with fresh soil to make up the gap? when needed of course.
in my travels, zz's get real dusty. i use a damp, warm, micro-fiber cloth to clean the foliage. this ok? with gentle pressure, as to not injure the leaves. NO leaf shine spray!
    yuk.
    a weak solution to fertilize.
diluted fish emulsion, perhaps seaweed ok?
    perhaps
    mid-spring
    and
    mid-summer...
zz's do not need any trace minerals, correct?
    iron, sulphur, etc.?
    thank you🇺🇲
    tak sa mycket🇸🇪

I would recommend propagating part of your plant to be on the safe side. If there is a stem with a healthy tuber (white and firm), then division will be the quickest method. Swedish Plant Guys give details on this and other methods in their video on ZZ propagation.

@@vivianchan926 my ZZ plant rizomes were over watered to the point of being water logged and mushy in dime size spots, not knowing what to do as she:s my 1st ZZ I did something probably unconventional but it worked. I used a soft rag to sop up as much water in them as a could, cut out the soggy tiny roots & some of the thicker ones then set her in a empty pot for 2 days, till she looked dryer. Then I potted her in new organic dirt, left her alone in filtered light cking her each day. After 10 days she was standing tall again and now she's beautiful! I got very lucky.
