I went on a cruise with this album when it came out, my Mother had just lost her fight with cancer. It was Destiny! The water themes! Everything correlated in a perfect love affair! Oh, and my name is Meredith "Mer"?!!
Of all the memorable lines from him, nothing can stop me now, because I don't care anymore. Was my favorite. I was angry like most people that seemed to listen to him, but he always made me angry with everyone else. Suicide was never really an option, homicide on the other hand is a real and ever present thought...
This was always one of my favorite songs on the album, so simple and sweet. Almost like, ignorantly beautiful to a fault. The slightly out of tune piano perfectly captures it perfectly. Absolutely genius
But, being listened to on the internet makes it intrinsically a digital version. It does, though, have much better fidelity than any version I've heard here. 👍🏻
This song makes me miss all of the friends I've ever had. The ones I moved away from in 2000, the ones I haven't seen in almost 20 years, the ones I don't even know I will (n)ever see again. I hope I left a good impression. I miss them.
I won't lie I'm not the biggest fan of NIN ever but hearing this album made me realize that this guy Reznor is capable of so much more than just dark, heavy, industrial, goth-like music. He really had to ability to either create or help produce such more that what people are used to. No wonder to me the guy is now an Oscar winning composer. I might not be the biggest into this band but this was a record that i did love.
It was written the way "the wall" was written. All songs fitting into one another. Check how "the frail" is the ascending riff in "the fragile". This album is a masterpiece my man!
Turn of the millennium favorite of mine, for decades now ;) I remember Manhattan winter mornings blasting my headphones as I walked through Penn station … this album seems to be the soundtrack of some particular instances in my timelines
Is it just me or is that bass line off of Into The Void or that song is off of this one? 😂 Edit: and the piano is like the xylophone thing from that song too
Just searched what does the woman mutter at the beginning... A bit disappointed to discover that it is some gibberish in french: "Et il est un jour arrivé Marteler le ciel Et marteler la mer Et la mer avait embrassé moi Et la délivré moi de ma caille À rien ne peut m'arrêter maintenant" It's something like a person with a really poor knowledge in french would put. "And it has one day arrived Hammering the sky And hammering the sea And the sea had kiss me And the delivered me from my quail Nothing can stop me now". Uh? What?

@@La_Horca 2 reasons. 1 it's not what I want to hear when I listen to NIN. Too slow. When I listen to NIN, I want to hear hard music. 2 it's just not my style of music. Strangely, I like the Johnny Cash version. But that is probably because it's the kind of style I expect from him

I love how Trent always manege to help me get through the shit live throws at me with his music. I'm glad to know it helps you too.
Your mom is resting in peace, and I'm so sorry for your loss
Love how this and Into the void fit
'no, you don't' into this is just perfect. the blaring guitars into soft piano... holy shit i love the fragile.
And when the day arrives
I'll become the sky
And I'll become the sea
And the sea will come to kiss me
For I am going
Home
Nothing can stop me now

Isn't this the song he wrote in that house where he was trying to kill himself?

I read Trent dedicated this to his granny. This jus makes this even the mire beautiful
This album is my form of drugs
Trent really killed it when he did heroin.
I adore the bass line.

How does a human not enjoy The Fragile? It's impossible!
Might be the most perfect piece of music ever
Always will be my favorite song. La Mer. 🖤
The beginning of "into the void" has the same beats as the song "La Mer" 🎤🎧
Favorite NIN song of all time
Has anyone realized there's another song from The Fragile inside this track??? Listen to the guitar!
Yeah. Into the Void. It's a brilliant way of foreshadowing the upcoming song. Trent is a Mastermind. Easily my favourite album by him.
It's the Fragile theme! Such a great piece of work
The Frail, The Fragile, this and Into the Void all have something in common ;)
a motif.
Huh?
I totally embrace the dark tapestry of the world that Trent reser has created with this very fine recording
The women singing at the beginning is beautiful.. Something about her soft voice.
I love this song, it helped me many times in hard times...
And God will wipe away every tear.
Hey, it's got the bass line from Into The Void in there

In concert they often went straight into The Void from here... see what I did there? but La Mer works well as an extended intro.
@@danceswithmules hahahaha well done sir
has almost a meddle/obscured by clouds era pink floyd feel to it
This is the best song off the Fragile.
Masterpiece.
Dr. Dre helped with this production..

100% YES! La Mer. Absolute Trent's Masterwork...
The lyrics kind of tie into the next track, The Great Below's lyrics "Ocean pulls away"... "I'll become the sea"...
Sounds like Fall is here
El mar.
him and cudi need a colab for maybe cudis last album it would be perfect
this song its so cool!

La Mer is the only thing in the way of me and my 1 true love. Sophie 🥰
Oh and fn covid 🤬
This for Grandpa, for Ted, for Blonde and... for me.

Used to have some really vivid drug induced dreams to this song

Ok ok he needs a break from singing.... Let's do this and still memorize the crowd.

This is one of the only 2 NIN songs I don't like. The other is Hurt. I just don't care for this song. I hate Hurt.
Hurt is a tough one for me to like too but I think this songs slow build and chill sound is fantastic.
Hurt's great imo, I struggle sitting through reptile
Great comment, nobody cares.
Hurt might be his most personal piece of music. Perfectly produced, of course. Why don't you like it?
