- Acknowledging the land in which we are situated is happening more frequently than ever before. Stemming from stories of the land that span generations, it is a traditional custom of Indigenous people that dates back centuries when welcoming outsiders onto their land and into their homes.
We acknowledge the land as an act of reconciliation that honors the authentic history of Turtle Island and the original people of this territory. Calgary Foundation encourages others to incorporate land acknowledgement into their reconciliation journey.
NOTE: In September 2023, the Métis Nation of Alberta changed their name to the Otipemisiwak Métis Government. The new name signifies "those that rule themselves" in Plains Cree-referring to Métis as Otipemisiwak (Oh-teh-pim-swak).

We need to get back into balance. Prayer times, dance and song will break the yolk 🇨🇦🇺🇲🇲🇽
such a beauutiful video. thank you!
Thank you so much for developing this video and publishing it! This is the standard that all land acknowledgements should follow! Masicho from the Tlicho Nation!
I still don’t understand why we do a land acknowledgement. Can someone explain it to me?
It means one day you'll be forced to give up your property.
No, it doesn't. We signed Treaty to share the land. As a Treaty partner, it is only to acknowledge and have respect for the land.
So forgive me for sounding cold. It’s more ignorance than anything. If white people took this land, and we acknowledged that it was First Nations, isn’t that insulting to First Nations people? It’s not like anyone is going to give it back to them.

So if I buy a property from a foreclosure auction and find out the previous owners are Canadian, should I put an "Indigenous Land Acknowledgement" sign in my yard?

Nobody owns the land. You only occupy land while you can defend that occupation.
I agree that no humans own land, nor nature. We are sustained by it.
But the colonization of cultures robs people of their ability to live with the lands.
Why would anyone give this a thumbs down??? This was a beautiful video full of truth and wisdom
It is full of hubris, and it creates confrontation.
very beautiful! thank you so much for sharing.
❤ thank you Aho
Native tribes fought each other over land then they fought Europeans upon their arrival and only because they lost the land we now pay ohmage to who once owned it and lost it.
This was so well done! Thank you for sharing

My grandson’s school honor the original land keepers - the people of Treaty 7 - at the beginning of every assembly…
I think it’s wonderful that these little 5-10 year old children are acknowledging the land owners of Alberta, Canada
Why still bother calling it "Alberta, Canada", then?
Thank you for making this. It is powerful and very well done.
Thank you!
God loves you and so do I. Give your life to Jesus Christ and repent of all your sins, even the ones you've committed in the past.
