  • In the arctic forests of Northern Russia, there are only two seasons: the Dark Winter and the Bright Summer. Russian wildlife experts Henry M. Mix and Axel Gebauer present a Karelian summer full of life, through landscapes of water and light.

    I maked seweral bikepacking trips thru karelia. It's №1 place for me for long bike trips almost always possible to avoid main roads there. You can vary toughness of trip from quite casual to hardcore, vary your distance from civilisation, and not be disappointed. Season is short, late summer is best. If u are religious person you find distant monasterys and old churchs (working and forgotten) and Valaam island are special place for belivers.

    Wolverines have a notorious reputation of being fearless fighter and will not back down from most challenges from other animals including Wolves and Mountain Lions. But you notice in this documentary the Wolverine moved off the dead animal He was eating when the large Brown Bear came into claim the kill. Wolverines are tough fighters but they are not dumb, the Grizzle type European Brown Bear could destroy that Wolverine in short time if the fight really got serious.

    Most of all, I like to read the erotic fantasies of Finns, whose country was an ally of Nazi Germany - that Karelia is Finland, very funny! )))) In Finland, they don't study history and geography in schools, apparently, and the Internet probably doesn't work there. Karelia is only and exclusively the Republic of Russia!))) And the movie, as always, is great, thank you! A very beautiful video about Russian Karelia!))

    The bear cubs were so depressing! Even if they had figured out how to find/eat the food, they couldn't be big enough to survive a winter?? Wouldn't it be more humane to humanely put them down, instead of a long, scary, painful death by cold and starvation? I just about died when they were crawling up his legs:(((((

    • @Felis-Concolor
      @Felis-Concolor 9 месяцев назад

      Did you listen to the documentary? It was stated that by six months old the cubs can easily survive winter with their fat reserves which is why they were released in early summer. These are highly adaptable animals, more adaptable than any other animal on earth. They easily survived that, it’s been done dozens of times before with success. It’s better to let them try than to destroy them. Look up the stories in the US and Canada, cubs lose their mother and survive into adulthood shocking experts. Being on an island without predators the bears have their own paradise.

      This is not necessarily true. Bears have been found killed by wolverines (two holes thru skull) as well as wolverines killed by bears. The wolverine is fearless and will drive a bear off a kill. Also, the wolverine here did not back off, in fact the bear backed off. He knows how crazy the mustelid family, especially wolverines are. A cougar or pack of wolves would prove a problem for them. I refer you to The Wolverine Way by Doug Chadwick to get a handle on wolverine behavior.

      I'm sorry when exactly was it Finland? I just started reading an article about it and there's this information that this land had always been fought about between Russia, Norway, and Finland, but Russia made it their land in the 13th century or so. Then some Swedish guys wanted to have it, but the people of this land fought for it with Russian side (btw the people weren't considered Russian, Swedish, or Finnish). The article is too dull, and there's no information on what you're saying. Maybe you can just drop me some facts about it? I hope I don't sound aggressive or something

      There are three Karelias. Two of them are part of Finland (they are called "regions"). One is part of Russia. The one that is part of Russia is called the "Republic of Karelia" (the one in the video). The Republic of Karelia has never been a part of Finland.
      Finland was founded in 1917. Until 1917, Finland was part of the Russian Empire and was called "The Grand Duchy of Finland".
      The Republic of Karelia was also part of the Russian Empire, but it was called "The Olonets Governorate", not "Karelia", not "Finland", even before Russian Empire, Karelia was under the Novgorodian Republic. Karelia as a republic appeared in 1920-1923 and since then has had autonomy. Now we in the Karelia we have our own government, our own constitution, our own Head of the Republic. This is Karelian, not Finnish
      And I'm Russian Karelian, my ancestors lived here. Vepsians, Karelians and Russians lived and will here together. These people have always lived in peace with each other and called Karelia their home. These people have always been friends with the Finns (people, not government)
