Loved this video - Finland seems a proper 'grown-up' country when it comes to equality and Visit Finland such a good organisation to be sponsoring and arranging trips like this to help advertise their amazing country. As an aside, I don't suppose Shanna remembers the make and colour of the nail varnish she was wearing on this trip? I'm in awe and really want to get some!
If you fell in love with Finnish saunas, I highly recommend visiting Tampere, which is also called the "sauna capital of the world". In Tampere, there are more public saunas than anywhere else, including Finland's oldest still-in-use public sauna. 😉
Happy belated birthday! Also, glad you had a great time in Finland I heard so many amazing things about all the Scandinavian countries! I had a former coworker who lived in Denmark and loved it there. Def would love to get to see Finland!
Helsinki Pride is something to experience, just saying 😊 I've attended several times, and it's just amazing. Oh yeah, and Touko Laaksonen (Tom of Finland) is definitely one of the most important Finnish artists.
Looks like both of you enjoyed Finland. Any way the weather here in Brooklyn was awful last weekend. Lots of rain cool and wind. Shanna Happy Birthday Go Knicks. Shanna and Gabi cool video.
Finns have also lived off plants, too ... like every civilization on Earth ... so why focus on one section of the diet to formulate an 'us and them' mentality? There's too much of that in this world. Vegans in Finland and everywhere else who want to avoid meat and dairy and the cruelty and chronic ill-health they represent are so thankful to be catered for and it's great that this channel can give a shout-out to support those businesses. Instead of re-inventing the wheel, vegans the world-over take 'traditional' foods as inspiration and use creativity and skill to 'take out the death' - and that's not surprising or 'culturally appropriating', is it? Tradition can be overrated. In some places it's "traditional" to eat shark's fins and bush meat (including monkeys) ... but I don't think that represents something good and inviolate. It used to be "traditional" to bait bears with dogs and to burn elderly women who spoke out of turn on bonfires as witches ... thank goodness that traditions can change! I would absolutely have loved to try one of those oval open-topped pies ... this makes me even keener to go and visit Finland one day ☮❤.
@@sairhug No, we have NOT lived off plants. Frost killed many harvests, which we have one per year btw. There isn't much that grows here even during the summertime, and those do not have nearly enough energy to sustain anyone. Of course mushrooms, berries and wild vegetables have provided variety and were better than nothing, but actual energy came from meat, dairy and fish. Even root veggies needed cow dung to enrichen the soil, since ours is very scarse in minerals... After grains were a part of our diets, it was mainly some rye and barley. During many years, frost killed off any wheat and some of the barley.
@@turpasauna You have proved my point ... plants have been a major factor in Nordic diets, even if some through 2nd hand means. So there is no reason _new_ traditions can't take that forward and put a new twist on things. Being part of the EU, trade now makes things so much easier, so why not take advantage instead of continuing with the insular meat & dairy heavy diets of the past? It won't be for everyone of course, and that's their prerogative ... but mocking vegans for not being traditional is a bit silly.
@@sairhug Trade stops when there's a war. Take a look at a map, see how isolated we are. Who do you think will produce our food when Russia attacks the next time? What do you think is more wise to produce: meat, eggs and dairy or veggies? Yes, we do have a place for vegetable dishes in our diet, but never have they been a MAJOR part of it. The first oranges came here in the 50's; the first garlic in the 80's. Of course people have grown onions, cabbage etc. for centuries but nobody relied on them for a main source of energy. Much less on fruit.

They are part of a movement that is still fighting for their rights and against prejudice. I've done straight trips to Greece but there's really nothing to fight for in that regard.

Thank you so much for watching! For my nail polish it was a blue gel with chrome powder on top!
Touko Laaksonen was also Vapaudenristi ("Cross of Freedom") -honored war hero in WW2.

Ohh that sounds fun for next time!
How’s public sauna work? I wouldn’t want to be in a place where women get in saunas naked
@@_rd_kocaman Different Saunas for men and women of course.

can't be traditional if thats vegan :D
It's not traditional if it's vegan. 😅 Finns have lived off dairy etc. since the dawn of time.
