@afattori316 Extremely sad and so shocking!! I mean, he took really good care of himself. Did they ever say the cause of death? It sucks because he was a regular on these shoots and I love the way he tells a story. He's very smart , gives such detail , and doesn't bullshit. And his voice frigging rules!!!
@@ppiorkowski1502 Heart failure. He'd come to New York from his home in Ecuador for an autograph show, and I guess he passed away peacefully in his room. Very sudden, but based on his shoot interviews I would think he'd count himself lucky to die quickly and cleanly.
@@ppiorkowski1502 Dave Meltzer and I believe 2 other sources list his death cause as CHF (congestive heart failure). People who are active and fit can still have a bad ticker. A lot of times it's genetics, diet, vascular disease, undiagnosed prior condition or a combo of issues. For instance, his brother Randy had a heart issue that was made worse by years of his excessive steak and egg breakfasts High cholesterol (coroner who performed autopsy theorized) Eddie Guerrero was a gym rat but he had an enlarged heart.
My brother and I sat behind Andre on a coach flight to Edmonton in the late 70s. We nearly crapped ourselves seeing him occupy the 3 seats in front of us. I know I've heard Cornette tell that story about Andre and the deck of cards on his podcast. Thought for sure he said that he was the one who did that, not Lanny, and that he paid one of the ring rats 50 bucks to do it.
Heard Hacksaw Jim Duggan tell the Andre and the playing cards story too. Now I don't know who to believe, although I believe Lanny because he tells the story with more detail.
@@ShemPayne It could have been Duggan, I might be mixed up on that, but definitely heard it before since I was telling the story in my head along with Lanny saying it. This one was more detailed for sure though. I don't remember the part about rating the women, or Andre kissing him on the cheeks and calling him boss man from then on, but the rest was the same.. happened in Buffalo, paid a girl to go out in the snowstorm to get cards, she came back with not just a deck of cards but Bicycle cards.
@@xGodofAcidx Yeah, when he presents the cards and says "voila" and Andrea tells him "merci beaucoup" I knew it was the same story. You know what's funny, I have heard three different Vietnam vets tell about flying in a C-130 that had to make a belly landing with the landing gear up. Now maybe they were all on the same plane, maybe belly landings were common, but I think a good story just gets passed around.
Some friends of my parents adopted a Chinese boy. He had a messed up foot and would have had a messed up life. Instead he became a jazz trombone instructor at a large Big Ten University here in town and just had his first daughter.
U know even if Andre hadn't wrestled a day in his life his disease would have still had in the same boat towards the end of his life. Wrestling needed Andre at the time thats for sure.
Maybe it's super expensive in the US ? But why the hell didn't Lanny (or Macho) get angiograms ?! They would have immediately spotted the blocked arteries and put stents in. Two needless deaths.
It's definitely not that expensive unless you don't have any kind of health insurance but I know a guy that is probably the brokest person I know he might make 20k a year definitely not 30k who got a stent put in recently he's so broke he actually gets his health insurance for free I have the same health care provider and I pay $300 a month because I make more money than him so money wasn't the issue a lot of people just don't get yearly check ups
Savage and Lanny both died of heart failure so it was probably genetic with Randy dying at 58 he was also heavy steroid user and alcohol abuse also according to Stephanie Bellars he did a lot of coke and drugs. Lanny only did roids briefly in 1989 and was a social drinker as he died at 68.
I've been watching old Nitros and it was surprising to me when they brought in Rick Martel in 1998 and had him beating young talent like Booker T and Eddie Guerrero wtf? Martel only lasted a couple months before injuries forced him to retire.
The same operation that Big Show underwent was available in the seventies before Andre’s condition worsened If he had of gotten it it would have stopped his growth problem and by properly taking care of his health would have lived significantly better and longer than he did
He says supply and demand when he probably means something exploitative so that's concerning genius phrasing. The snacks clarification is great follow up question.
@@DaveReece-u4b You do understand that two or more things can be true and happening simultaneously, don't you? Rip Lanny great interview
I could listen to Lanny all day! So down to earth and true.
Andre was always in pain but he loved the business. Andre truly gave his life to the business. There will never be another like him.
Not even Taker paid more dues and gave more to the business than Andre. How he came back after Wrestlemania 2 is beyond me but his love for his craft must have given him the strength
Not to mention with his disorder and size it was extra difficult to work, let alone for two decades

Loved Lanny and the characters he played
For a long time in the 90s I thought " I can't believe Andre is gone."
Now as I watch this I'm thinking "I can't believe Leaping Lanny is gone."
I watched a prime time wrestling where Lanny was wrestling, this guy could properly wrestle.

Lanny's recount of Andre is awesome.
He knew who to ask. He really was a genius.

Good interview
A very noticeable difference occurs in Andre around 1985. The dynamic, agile Giant gave way to the slow, arthritic Giant and it happened fast.
Sometimes it's about the organs and maybe he just didnt get right intervention. Or weirder stuff happened, but in the late 1970's Shea stadium videos he's hefty guy.

Yea his lifestyle had nothing to do with it pots of pastas and gallons of wine had nothing to do with his obesity and joint inflammation
