Dr. Iain Lampert (UCLA '14) delivers the defense opening at the 2017 Peer Potential Mock Trial showcase round.
The case: State v. Dawson (2012).
The prosecution theory: the defendant drank so much alcohol and drove so fast that, when her car crashed and her friend died, she is guilty of murder.
The defense theory: the defendant drank and drove, but not to the excessive level of a first-degree murder. The facts are muddled by police mistakes and prosecutorial overreach.
