I know what you mean. When I listen to this, I want it to remind me of when I first saw the movie. I want it to conjure up the same feelings it did in the 90s, I want to be reminded of that time. When I listen to this song a few years down the road, I want it to remind me of the 90s, not 2018. So it's definitely not a song I'm going to put on my daily playlist or anything.
James Earl Jones 1931-2024 Aside from having the coolest voice in the world, you played two of the most iconic fathers in history. One from the dark side, the other being one of the best.
This makes the reprise of this track in King of Pride Rock even more touching, when you realize that this moment is being referenced by Simba taking his father's place in that scene.
Believe Zimmer said himself.. he composed that famous Lion King melody for his father.. who passed. So VERY deep emotions were put into it.. which shows every time. I still cry to "Mufasa's death". Music is such a magical vibration... shaken to the very core.. and when a musician uses that... to tell a story... out comes a legendary Score.
I go see the lion king in theatre every christmas with my family. It's a tradition that NEVER gets old. This scene always manages to bring tears to my eyes and I look forward to the performance all year every year. To me, christmas isn't complete without this
Simba: Dad come on we gotta go wake up. Dad dad dad dad. Mufasa: Your son is awake. Sarabi: Before sunrise he's your son. Simba: You promised! *cue cute pout* Mufasa: Alright alright I'm up. *roar/yawn* And that was all from my memory
You know. I wanted to become a father like Mufasa when I was a kid. I ended up being an uncle. I don't treat the kids like Scar, but it's definitely much different than being a father. Requires just as much love.
Everything you see exists together in a delicate balance. As king, you need to understand that balance and respect all the creatures, from the crawling ant, to the leaping antelope.

Of all the movies I’ve watched and all the things I’ve seen. This movie will forever stand out to me as well as the soundtrack. This was Disney’s gold.
2:14-2:19 my favorite part of the soundtrack. It does a perfect job of foreshadowing just how horrible the Elephant Graveyard is and just how dark this movie will get by the midpoint.
I was sooo happy that you uploaded the uncut soundtrack of this film because many versions don't give the complete score, including to a track in the film like this, and this is one of my favorites, especially when Simba wakes up his parents, then gets the lessons from his father about being a king.
Look, Simba. Everything the light touches is our kingdom. A king's time as ruler rises and falls like the sun. One day, Simba, the sun will set on my time here and rise with you as the new king.
srbarkerchan It's simple. The catchy theme you hear at 1:51 is played when Mufasa's ghost pops out from a temporal cell. "Simba...you've forgotten me!"

This music is so nostalgic and beautiful. It reminds me of the times when orchestras were common in movies and they added so much emotion. I cry listening to this.
Thanks for putting this up! I wonder why the music is a bit different from 1:04 to 1:32... maybe this is an earlier version? Oh well, it's still awesome!
It is similar for the most part, just at 1:04 I think there is an extra flute part in the movie (right as Simba is running inside the rock around the other lions), but it's back to normal by the time they go back outside at 1:32. Either way, it's still a great piece of music!
