I actually blows my mind at how those game & watches like this do work, instead of using sprites or tile sets, the whole screen consists of sections in wich it uses different drawn images of characters & objects in wich the cpu can switch from to create the ellusion of motion, but those images can’t overlap each other (unless there’s an extra segmented lcd screen behind it with other unique drawn characters on it) Now to emulate such game on a pc or tablet etc,,, all those images had to be scanned in including that printed colorful background and then tell the cpu to switch to and from each segmented image to create such ellusion motion effects, pretty clever😁
An extra segmented screen? Could they do that? I don't think I ever saw an LCD game with two layers like that, but now I'm imagining the possibilities!
Why couldn't it be released in the Game and Watch Gallery for the Game Boy or in the DSiWare? I know it might have to do with the copyright ownership, but it's still possible.
I don't think so, Popeye isn't a Nintendo character therefore making licenses with King Features also means that Nintendo needs to pay them royalties, meaning that Nintendo can't have the entire money to themselves.
Hi again! How did yoy managed to get the green frame? Or is it a Jedi trick / edit cut video from the complete unit?? Sorry if I bother you with so many questions. I'm new to this. Thank you!
@@old80s59 Thank you! Video option - view - swiched from full to cropped. I tried this yesterday and did not suceed because i was tring to change the option with mouse click and it didn't work. I only managed to succeed by using the directional arrows on the keyboard. Thank you so much.
@@old80s59 Thank you. I've found this game for Android by Madrigal. It's also beautifully done but it's simulation and way more difficult than the original game. And the feeling is not the same. Any chance to have this emulation on Android, or maybe on Nintendo 3ds?

release = august 5, 1981, produced units 1.2 million. chrono. the 11th in G&W, what i did not know is that popeye is a 'burly womanizer'. luv him even more 😁......and thanks ''Old80s: Gaming, Comparisons, And More'' !
It actually blows my mind how nintendo was allowed to make a popeye game already on august 5 1985,barelly a month after the release of donkeykong,so whether the game would,ve been a success or not, nintendo eventually would have got a licenses to make a popeye game anyway.
I had this game when I was younger. I wish I still had it 😔
У меня такой игры не было. Но есть Микки Маус и Ну, погоди!
My dad used to play this game from his friends, the look of his face seems like he’s happy

Nintendo should make a game & watch collection for the switch
They definitely should, we could use a Game and Watch Gallery 5!
How about a game & watch classic mini with all simulated games on if,that would be cool😁

King features are notorius assholes when it comes to licensing

Would have been nice if that cursor arrow is out of the way.
My favorite games
I want to buy this how much.
I have made a conversion to zx spectrum a few days ago. not exactly the same but it seems more or less

At the time, I used full unit artwork and changed an option in the "artwork" menu from "Full" to "Cropped".

Beautiful. Is this an emulation or simulation ?
This is emulation.

Hi,
I downloaded the artwork but nothing is visible. Maybe the game rom I downloaded is not good? Where is a site to download the good rom?
Make sure the artwork file has the same name as your rom file "gnw_popeye".
@@old80s59 But do I have to download the artwork in winrar zip format or extract the background image from the file?
