  • Dorney Park Wooden Roller Coaster 1936 - In gloriously faded color! It looks as though it's the only ride there.

It looked so naked amongst the open background, now dwarfed by the current mass of rides. When my old man said we're going to Dorney park, I was already in the car waiting.

Of all the Dorney Park videos uploaded here this one is the most stunning and most eloquent for its soundless wonder. This film was recorded in the year when my mother, the coaster aficionado who inspired me, was a baby. I came along twenty years later. As a family we began to enjoy Dorney Park and The Coaster in 1966. There's a satisfying linearity to this film. I recognize that sweeping turn through the trees at 0:45 as though I'd just seen it last night. Thank you for this fascinating and historic glimpse into a world which existed so long ago.

There is also some excellent color footage of this coaster (and other parts of the park ) in the film "Where Angels Go, Trouble Follows."

WOW!!! This coaster at it's finest!! Great 2nd drop!
It is still good (especially if the brakes are light) but it had to be spectacular!!

My dad helped paint this coaster in the 1940s.

It's a shame they took so many of the hills out. That first one was lowered so much that it is barely noticeable now.

Based on this video it looks like it was reconfigured twice. Very interesting.

chdreturns I have film scanning equipment for 8 and 16mm film. This was from one of my clients. Anyone has films of history, I may do them free of charge, depending..
