Nice video there - that's two that have given this aged steam lover a great deal of pleasure - I have now added my subscription to your channel - one of only two railway channels that I have subscribed to.

What a fantastic looking locomotive, such great condition and a huge credit to Oliver Bulleid's design even after the rebuild. Of course the reference to "big cloud of smoke" is of course steam (not smoke!) released from the cylinders via the drain cocks ... and the "slippery departure" is typical of all Bulleid Pacifics, whatever the load, both back then and still now.

Yep I did know it was steam but my brain must have thought smoke sounded better xD

Steam is invisible. What you see are clouds of water droplets formed from condensing steam.

Lovely shooting - a magnificently turned out loco, a stunning day and a lot of happy smiling faces on the platform - just magic!
I suspect the driver was wanting to get a good "feel" of his heavy train getting away from the platform without any undue shoving from the rear!
There is something about these rebuilt Bulleids which I find particularly pleasing, I'm eagerly looking forward to seeing "Clan Line" back on the Carlisle runs hopefully in the near future ...
I wonder what the problem is with "Britannia!"?

She’s looking good. I saw her in the last days of steam, what a transformation .

Amazing video, seemed very busy at Preston whereas I thought it was reasonably quiet at Carlisle compared to normal!

Very good as always. Got a heads up it was 34046 after knowing Britannia had failed her test run.

Thanks Stephen and I had a suspicion it might be Braunton because of the fail but I was not sure if they could have mended Britannia in time but oh well, at least it makes for a good title and a lot of wheelslip from Braunton ey 😉

Shame about the diesel on the rear and giving a shove almost steam haulage 🙁

To be fair, the 47 was a lot, lot quieter when going up Shap later on. Mind you, so was Braunton...

Is it though? Drawbar power on these locomotives is massive. Doubt they need assistance. Towed more likely until required.

typical Bulleid piece of crap, even decked out in GWR colours it can't manage 3 coaches without skating about. Were there ever such useless engines ?

There is always one ignoramus making groundless ill conceived judgement concerning a topic about which he clearly illustrates to know very little.

After Clun Castles "performance " on Hemerdon last week then wouldn't have thought GWR people would have the nerve to slag off Bulleids masterpiece. Take an educational look at some of the videos on RUclips of Canadian pacific cruising Hemerdon unassisted or British India line on shap before you start gobbing off about any comparative shortcomings.

      Not "GWR colours", BR colours.
