I agree with you Rachel. I started reading the book in anticipation of the series and I couldn’t get past the first chapters because the characters were so unlikeable.

I've been wondering about the book but haven't had a chance to read it.

One more thought - I wonder if Hallmark knows their fan base. If they have ever gone to visit a retirement home, care center, or their grandma they would find Hallmark on in the background.
However, one senior I know in the last two years of her life was extremely upset by the newer hallmarks and would be agitated until someone changed it.
I went to visit my grandmother in her Alzheimer’s care center and brought “call the midwife” to share in the main area - I thought it would be nostalgic and interesting. The staff had to turn it off because too many of the residents were upset with the content.
They told me these older folks just want the happy memories of life, not the hard, hurtful ones of reality they already experienced. Anyone who took a film history class would know the dime movies during the depression and war helped people forget the horrors around them.
Maybe hallmark needs to wait a while and keep these old folks happy.
However, I’m Gen X never been a lifetime fan. I’ve truly had enough trauma and prefer more light hearted, joyfulnees. I even had to stop watching The Way Home because it was too much angst, knit brows, unhealthy communication like a soap opera. Not into people always staying the victim, but overcoming that sooner than later in a show.

It's hard I think to know how to expand the brand while keeping the base happy. I guess at least with The Chicken Sisters it's just their streaming service so maybe a safer place to take risks but still you need a character to latch on to with all the drama

I agree with you! Everyone is unpleasant! As a Schuyler Fisk fan I wanted to like it, but I really just do not like her character. I don't get her issue. Amanda wants to control everyone and gets upset when God Forbid someone does something She doesn't want them to do. Amanda must be a chip off the whole block because Gus is just miserable. She is a juat a miserable lady who treats everyone badly.

Pumpkin Pie Wars is one of my all time favorite Hallmark movies.

I appreciate this analysis and agree with you that it’s fun to have more diverse plots and stories. But I likely won’t watch this. I started watching Hallmark with my 11 year old daughter and it was joyful and taught good communications and healthy relationships. That is why I keep watching because there’s enough unhealthy and toxic behavior in real life and in media - I prefer normalizing healthy behaviors.
