As someone who went to art school, I've learned more in a year of self teaching than 4 years of uni taught me

The only reason I truly wanna go to art school is the possible network opportunities. Would you say art school helped u with that?
Shifta Shape you have a bit of network but overall especially through social media you’re most likely to get it through there. Going out in the real world helps a lot more than going uni for years.
@@shiftashape8729 Art school definitely can be good for building networks although it's not necessarily guaranteed. I'm fairly introverted so I didn't really make any lasting connections but with that being said some of the most successful people have met their business partners through university. But overall I'd have to agree with Vanessa Ezekiel, social media is where most artists will find their network and audience these days. Don't let my opinion sway you one way or the other though because whats right for me might not be right for you, if you do apply though do some research into which schools in your area have the best curriculum.

Guys. this vid is entertaining and all, but take it with a grain of salt. Art school isn't generally all bad. there are bad artschools that waste your time and money but there are good artschool that really teaches you, it's about how you research the unbiased opinion and facts about them and then pick which one is good for you. if you really think that all artschool is like this, then you were misled.

Tbh I just wanna go for the experience. Like I definitely want to go to college, but I can't stand being in another creativity-barren school that feels entirely worthless and will only get me a boring office job. And I love art, and I've seen others' experience with art school, and I just...really want to go. Not for parties or anything, I just feel like college is a good time for figuring yourself out before you have to actually live in the real world. The art school environment is what I love.
Same! I am a junior at an art university and don't regret it at all! Alot of art schools are not worth it, ofcourse, but I think you pick up a lot of useful skills along the way with the right one. And I actually like taking the classes outside of my degree because they all ultimately tie back to art in someway or another! I guess I am just a lucky case, though. It's just all up to the individual! And you're right, it gives you some time to figure yourself out a bit before being thrust into the job market.

I completely agree! I went to art school for design and didn’t directly use my degree after graduation, but I learned SO much that has helped in the long run. So the experience was worth it in my opinion. Life is short, if your dream is go to art school & experience that, then do it :D

In my country, art school is free, federal university and shit... So I went to art school so I could spend 4 years of my life just chilling and saying that I was getting a degree (so my parents would lay off and I could quit my shitty job as a designer), while I hanged out with my friends and worked on my comic, totally worth it.
Made a dope ass comic book, got some friends for life, and impressed some people... Plus I've got a really cool paper on the relationship between comic books and the art world and how contemporary artist are using both comics and traditional forms of art to express their ideas.
The degree is not useful for anything besides showing off, but the experience was cool, learned a bunch of new techniques that I wouldn't have even tried if I haven't gone there. But that being said, I just went cause it was free, I would not pay for art school just to spend 4 years figuring shit out. Also... the third semester made me get a really bad anxiety so... would not pay to get anxiety.

I actually wanna go to college just for the sake of moving out of my country and live a better lifestyle. By studying abroad I'll gain experience and network with the people of the foreign country and I'll find better opportunities in a more developed country than mine bec art and animation in my country has little to no scope and I don't wanna spend rest of my life here :( My situation is pretty complicated so yeah that sucks bec I initially wanna be a freelancer and have my own small business and on top of that if I have a job in a studio that's just gold for me.

SIS In Space because you get work Visa easily if you study from there you get to experience how life is, going there without a college is difficult and depends on whether they hire you or not, the cost of living is difficult to cover without a pre defined job, you can go there if you work where you’re living now and the company sends you there, with college its easier basically to settle there

my parents have been telling me that art school is a wast of time and money. But I never really understood until I watched this, so I'm dropping out for a much bigger life investment. HOOKERS AND BLOW HERE I COME!!!
I took about 3 art classes, one being art history and then I decided to stop studying art. And honestly that was the best decision i’ve ever made. In the end I got an internship at a small art gallery and do some graphic design work with absolutely no one having taught me. It takes real strength to sit through those 3-5 hour long art classes

I think for the longest time, I always wanted to go to art school because I seen my favorite artists graduate from the top most expensive universities and I didn’t think I’d have worth unless I joined along. Art school has never been financially accessible to me, and mostly everyone else unfortunately.
I had to leave school at 15 in 1963 but loved drawing so much I kept it up. I was a professional water-colourist for over 30 years. I just love experimenting with new media now 💖🇬🇧
as someone who went to art school, its truly what you make of it. it will really push you and give you an insight of what you actually want to do career-wise!! but it will also stress you tf out every week and possibly make u age 10x more. get that skincare ready bois and gorls.

I know this is a sarcastic joke, but on a real note. I’d say it really depends on the art school and the country, and the subject. cause where I’m at it’s not as expensive, and animation in this country is wanted but the network is small, and it’s hard to get in without connections, in case it’s not obvious already my professors have all the connections I need if I wanna work in the country. That’s one factor that makes art school worth it for me

I'm fairly certain Angel doesn't know what happens in art school. Nevertheless, I recommend checking out the Draftsmen podcast, where two professional artists were talking about exactly this topic recently. They have much more to say than Angel and they cover the topic in-depth.
Btw succeeding in social media is basically all about consistency, where you are supposed to make bite-sized content every single day to please an algorithm. If you wanna end up drawing barbie-girls every day on Instagram, then sure it's for you, but I'm certain most of you don't want to end up like that.
Take higher education into consideration, especially if you can afford it. There are also several alternatives and scholarships which can easily help you out.
I like Angel's personality, but please don't get influenced by him too much. He is doing stuff that is good for him, but that doesn't mean it will be good for you as well.

Dude, the Draftsmen said pretty much the same, don't go to art school unless you have a bunch of money or need to please your parents. They also struggle very much finding good reasons to go to an art school and consider them almost obselete as well as the diploma, and they spend 8 chapters saying it even if they still tried so hard to justify going in some cases XD...
with all the knowledge you have online this days all you need is stit your ass 8 hours a day and practise at home with better results than being "mentored" by art teacher whoe not always a good artist ;)

Aso someone who went to art-highschool in austria I have a few points that speak in favour of art school: 1. In my school we actually learned how to go about starting an art piece (sketches, concepts etc), 2. we got introduced to all the different types of art jobs that I didn‘t know about before (interior design, industrial design, ceramics...), 3. I actually learned useful things that are relevant for a job as an artist, 4. just as a side note you do actually need a degree to be a product or industrial designer for example 🤷🏻♀️

I FEEL BETRAILD AND MY EYES HAVE JUST OPENED
The fact that this was a six minutes and forty-four seconds explanation more than I could ever learn in four years of college wow.
I wanted to go to art-school because: It allowed me to use the student system and loans to work 40 hours a week without needing to get another job, pay less for a lot of services, and focussed on not sacrificing time whilst having direction to learn basics. Didn't stop me from dropping out within 2 months and work at McDonalds because I absolutely hated the environment :').
As an art school student for 3 years now, I can confidently tell you he exposed all the art schools out there and I agree with him
Like honestly now I need to learn art from RUclips channel besides going to art school so that I can actually learn to draw and know what art really is because ain't nobody got time to teach you those things in that "school"

I went to art school pre-internet and was taught by professionals that helped me become a pro. Like everything it's what you make of it. I don't think you need college to be good at what you do but in my case, it made me a better person since I learned how to learn. Also keep in mind that I struggled to make your current live more convenient. They same can be said for the old masters before me.

100% agree most college or uni suck. Most people become prof because that’s actually an easy way out. It’s seriously not that hard to get your PhD in most subject and become a prof. However, parents want you to get a degree because it’s a safe net. I don’t know about art job related situation. But if you want to work in a big crop and clime the ladder, then eventually the degree will be a stepping stone to become higher ranked manager and stuff. Just my two cents. It’s more about figure out what you want in life. But it’s not a bad decision to have a degree in your early 20s because it’s much harder to find time to get one when you much older.
