Central and State government funded medical colleges should impose a bond equivalent to the total subsidy for MBBS degree to ensure these doctors should payback the subsidy before they decide to leave the country.
Every year, around 4,000-5,000 Indian doctors move to the USA alone.

This is being reflected in Private Doctor's Consultation fees increasing astronomically. In 2002, most MD would have consultation fees below Rs.500. Now situation is so bad that even GP have started charging Rs. 200-300. It is difficult to find any MD charging less than Rs.1000 as initial consultation fee. Diagnostic centre fees have also increased similarly with a lot of tests done unnecessarily. Greed in this profession means no one trusts doctors anymore but they do not care given they have invested a lot to reach at this stage. The only solution is to increase state medical college seats so more doctors can be qualified.

There should be at least one government medical college in each Taluq. Health according to WHO is not only the absence of any disease, but a balanced life with mental, social wellbeing. There should be nutrition specialists, pediatricians, geriateicians, psychiatrists and psychotherapists, dentists, preventive medical experts, in every hospital.

India needs free quality education and health. These sectors need subsidy. Also skill development is more important than tech degrees. We need to develop many diploma courses which are focused towards skill development for the needs of various industries. Those who want to go the path of degrees can depend on other jobs but the needs of India are the industries and related skill development.

I joined mbbs course in delhi university at Maulana Azad Medical College New Delhi in 1969.
There was no competitive exam. Admission was on the basis of marks obtained in pre medical exam. For a four & a half year course of mbbs my father spent rupees 1350/ in all Yes, it was rupees450/ one & a half Yr period.
I stayed at home (not hostel). My travel expenditure was rupees 12& a half rupees/month by way of dtc student pass
My mother would pack two rotis+ vegetable for my lunch.
I managed with two pairs of clothes!
I feel medical colleges should only be run by govt not by private entities.
Secondly admission should be on the basis of marks obtained in class 12, in each state/union territory _decentralised system.
My parents were refugees from Pakistan after partition
I could become a doctor mbbs& then ms (orthopaedics) during the 'socialist' era&when admission was decentralised(federalism of sorts). I thank The Wire for raising this crucial issue

The cut off for NEET PG right now is literally 0 percentile. In earlier times, there were many students who scored average to good, couldn’t get Govt colleges and couldn’t afford private colleges. So they would rather wait for another year to compete again. Hence many seats used to remain vacant in private colleges in those times. To tackle this problem, they made the cut off 0 percentile. Now as long as you have the money, you could become a junior doctor even if you have no knowledge and talent for it. It’s only money that matters. The solution should have been to reduce the fees, so that who have the skills gets the seat.
