this is eye-opening! I've been struggling with repotting my big aloes and thought cutting was the only way, because the root grew to an out-of-control length.

Hey there. I want to start an aloe farm but I don't know where to purchase the seeds. Where can I buy them please, I have tried to search on Google but I don't know if I should trust any of the sites selling the seeds in terms of whether its the plain aloe I'm looking for or whether they are legit in the first place. Please help.

    • @sephiroth_96

@@princelobstarrr I started with a plant I got from a friend. I don't see many people started with seeds, or can even start aloe with seeds. If you happen to know anyone who grows aloes, ask them for a pup or ask where they got it. Aloe vera is quite resilient, so most of the time you'll be okay to start with almost any aloe plant.

@@princelobstarrr Hi. I know this question is a year old, but just in case you're still trying to get started, I wanted to share that if you intend to grow the aloe for food rather than ornamentals, the best variety for this is called "Aloe Barbadensis Miller," as it has the highest values of specific nutrients, and the leaves are a good, hefty size.
Rather than starting with seeds, which can be challenging to get started, I would instead search for plants of the Miller variety. Depending on how much space you have and how quickly you want to reach the farm's capacity, buy a number of these and pot them in such a way that as the roots grow, they can easily find the surface of the soil; This is where the pups will develop. In a few months when the pups are strong enough, pull them off and plant, as before, with the root tips kind of pointing upwards so more pups will form. You can easily turn half a dozen plants into a hundred this way. I've been doing this with my smaller variety of aloe for 5 years now and I've never run low on plants to sell or give as gifts.
One trick I've been testing for a year or so - I purchased a 10' length of vinyl guttering, 2 end caps and 4 middle support pieces. I drilled drainage holes every 12" and used it to repot my pups. It's been working absolutely perfectly, and it was such an inexpensive and space-efficient solution! If you can attach the guttering to a fence or wall, or if you're able to build a vertical rack, you'll be able to fit a ton of plants in a very small footprint. I use this space as a propagation area for many different types of succulents, and vegetable plant starts as well. Sort of like a nursery for baby plants. When they're read to go in their own pots or be planted outdoors, it's so quick and easy to just pop off an end cap of the guttering and slide them right out!
I think this would work very well in a greenhouse as well, at least along the East, North and West perimeter, to really make the most of the limited space.
I hope this is helpful. Good luck to you with your farm! I hope you have great success. 🙂

That is really impressive to see the procedure step-by-step, so, you started from the top and going down, securing the mother aloe vera from the top and removing the bottom and removing all those baby aloe vera, it looked easier and safer to the plant.. I can see that the growth of the plant is not intervened and won’t die.
