Its a remake film. The producer wanted to use copies of the original 3 songs. The producer has the right to do that as he had bought the right to remake the movie. So even those 3 songs were remade.
If one is a listener of many languages, and have heard Tamil music, you can most of the times identify if the song is originally in Tamil or not. Many Hindi songs were originally made in Tamil and when remade in Hindi, you can still feel the Tamil flavour in it.
AR cannot be compared with any composer alive or dead …. All his compositions touch the soul and make us feel emotions that are hidden within … nobody can surpass him in any form .. I still get goosebumps listening to his songs be it any language

Anu malik's sound production & musical harmony sounds absolutely horrendous. Nowadays even cover bands singing in pubs & bistros do a much better job in those departments.
They even didn't mentioned the name of music maestro the melody king in Hindi version of saathiya tune kya kiya. It's original song is from Telugu composed by Ilayaraja garu but when you watch the Hindi version it shows Anand-milind as music composer and many films too even in kaadhal psycho (saiyaan psycho) they changed the music director name of Hindi version
It’s a 100 % remake - so they retained the tunes of the original Tamil movie - one because they liked , second they also felt that these songs were a hit & will help in making the Hindi remake also a success - they would have definitely taken the necessary permissions from the source - there was no controversy till now - 😊

I dont agree with this. Anu malik never took credit. Because in the titles of the hindi version they mentioned special thanks to a r rehman, for using his composition for 3 songs.
Even in Virasat, paayale Jhunmun jhunmun is the same tune as in Tamil original. But it is still beautiful. And the other songs in the movie are also awesome. Anyways Anu Malik's work in Border, Baazigar, Munna Bhai, Viraasat etc is really special.
The technicalities of the original was far better right from the tempo and the mixing of the songs...you could hear each and every instrument used in the original songs...!!
Here in Chennai lots of fans to Anu Malik, 90s hits shown his class. in fact we don't know the Hindi lyrics but his tunes impressed us always. GENTLE MAN movie was remade to Hindi along with songs had recreated, not copied. The reason would be rahmans busy schedule.

The story rights bought by Allu aravind(producer) and directed by Mahesh Bhatt named the film THE GENTLEMAN(1994). this process called REMAKE. do you say 'the producer stolen a movie? and the director stolen a story?. When the original director and music director are committed into other projects obviously the producer will move to alternate creators to make a same plot(including songs). Usually the copy songs stealing from unknown countries hit, nearby states songs cannot be copied. You know? some older tamil song tunes has been imitated by ARR, we never say he is a copycat. we like that songs and appreciate his furnishing style of old tunes.

It doesn't come with free copyrights for the music as well because the original score has its own copyright. Until & unless, you are able to prove that Anu Malik had actually paid ARR or given credits to ARR on the public media, we must agree that they didn't do the right thing. To your comment about remixing old songs, the credit to the original composer was well-established for years & they enjoyed their credit for decades before ARR was asked to touch it unlike in the case of Gentleman movie, it was done in a sneaky way within a year! If Anu Malik had remixed, it could have been more acceptable instead he simply copied the musical notes 100% as-is. Sorry to say, it's unacceptable!

Separate copy rights are probably not followed by early 90s. Still here a debate for seperate copy rights for musicians while they got complete salary for each movies. Simply say, Anu Malik was asked to recreate the original score, so he did. When a producer bought a remake rights, he doesn't like to lose the original music score(especially the original songs got a massive hit. One more thing, no one asked ARR to touch a old tune(he used that tune for first line only, it doesn't comes under remix)

People will know the Quality of Class Music and its still sustaining in Music Industry in both India and all over the World. There is no comparison between Fluke Music & CLASS Music.
I was in high school at that time and was already familiar with composers lifting Ilayaraja's and AR Rahman's tunes right and left. I think it was Nadeem Shravan duo who shamelessly lifted Rajan Nagendra's top notch compositions.

It was an official Hindi remake of the Tamil film. The producers of the Hindi movie had officially bought the copyrights from the Tamil movie. So 3 original compositions from Tamil version were re-used without any change in tune or instrumentation for Hindi version. There was a note thanking A.R. Rahaman in the opening credits in Hindi.
If ARR was thanked then why the credit for those songs given to Anu Malik. And if his songs are used in movie then why Anu Malik getting such project it is utter waste of money.

Rahman is good in South Indian movies. He is very popular their. But hindi film music is different where RDB , Bappi created history. Rahman's Roja, Bombay and a few in his starting were good. Anu's early 80's songs are uncommon but very melodius. In 90's he almost ruled. Every composer copies from foreigh.

I don’t think Anu Malik copied these songs intentionally. It is probably just how the movie producer negotiated the deal with the original movie producer.
ARR is 99.99% original. ARR also used several samples that are freely available for anyone to use. Nevertheless, what he achieved is a sound engineering marvel that now still aim to achieve. IMO his command of western classical and understanding of Indian classical music is quite deep.

Its a remake film. The producer wanted to use copies of the original 3 songs. The producer has the right to do that as he had bought the right to remake the movie. So even those 3 songs were remade.

If one is a listener of many languages, and have heard Tamil music, you can most of the times identify if the song is originally in Tamil or not. Many Hindi songs were originally made in Tamil and when remade in Hindi, you can still feel the Tamil flavour in it.

They even didn't mentioned the name of music maestro the melody king in Hindi version of saathiya tune kya kiya. It's original song is from Telugu composed by Ilayaraja garu but when you watch the Hindi version it shows Anand-milind as music composer and many films too even in kaadhal psycho (saiyaan psycho) they changed the music director name of Hindi version
It’s a 100 % remake - so they retained the tunes of the original Tamil movie - one because they liked , second they also felt that these songs were a hit & will help in making the Hindi remake also a success - they would have definitely taken the necessary permissions from the source - there was no controversy till now - 😊

I dont agree with this. Anu malik never took credit. Because in the titles of the hindi version they mentioned special thanks to a r rehman, for using his composition for 3 songs.
Even in Virasat, paayale Jhunmun jhunmun is the same tune as in Tamil original. But it is still beautiful. And the other songs in the movie are also awesome. Anyways Anu Malik's work in Border, Baazigar, Munna Bhai, Viraasat etc is really special.
The technicalities of the original was far better right from the tempo and the mixing of the songs...you could hear each and every instrument used in the original songs...!!

When the original director and music director are committed into other projects obviously the producer will move to alternate creators to make a same plot(including songs).

It doesn't come with free copyrights for the music as well because the original score has its own copyright. Until & unless, you are able to prove that Anu Malik had actually paid ARR or given credits to ARR on the public media, we must agree that they didn't do the right thing. To your comment about remixing old songs, the credit to the original composer was well-established for years & they enjoyed their credit for decades before ARR was asked to touch it unlike in the case of Gentleman movie, it was done in a sneaky way within a year! If Anu Malik had remixed, it could have been more acceptable instead he simply copied the musical notes 100% as-is. Sorry to say, it's unacceptable!

Usually the copycats grabs 10-20%, but 100% reusing, doesn't meant a copy.
Separate copy rights are probably not followed by early 90s. Still here a debate for seperate copy rights for musicians while they got complete salary for each movies.
Simply say, Anu Malik was asked to recreate the original score, so he did.
When a producer bought a remake rights, he doesn't like to lose the original music score(especially the original songs got a massive hit.
One more thing, no one asked ARR to touch a old tune(he used that tune for first line only, it doesn't comes under remix)

It was an official Hindi remake of the Tamil film. The producers of the Hindi movie had officially bought the copyrights from the Tamil movie. So 3 original compositions from Tamil version were re-used without any change in tune or instrumentation for Hindi version. There was a note thanking A.R. Rahaman in the opening credits in Hindi.

In fact I was glad that Malick tried to replicate what ARR created. I am forever grateful to Malik for showing the world class quality of ARR and his team in sound production and editing. ARR is 99.99% original. The second song you mentioned is not an ARR original, he used it from a private album by Koti who was ARR's mentor prior to his foray into films. ruclips.net/video/i2TjLUsnCwQ/видео.html. ARR also used several samples that are freely available for anyone to use. Nevertheless, what he achieved is a sound engineering marvel that now still aim to achieve. IMO his command of western classical and understanding of Indian classical music is quite deep.
