You can also use the bump patrol shave gel with the bump fighter single blade razors. They work great as well. All of my bumps have disappeared. I had leftover scarring so I applied cocoa butter to my face everyday for awhile, and I am pleased with the results you can barely notice my scars anymore. I am still using it, and I hope my scars will lighten in color more. My skin tone is just about even now.

Very good method to shave my brother. I've been shaving for roughly 30 years and DE shaving is the best way to shave to avoid razor bumps. Your steaming method is good but it's rare I have time for that. Maybe on the weekend when I have free time to pamper myself :-) I have shaved with everything from clippers, to magic shave, to cartridge razors, you name it. First off black men, never shave with the Mach 3 or any of those razors with 4 or 5 blades. Why? Each pass you make on your face cuts the hair sharper and sharper making the hair easier to reenter your skin which gives you razor bumps. This is my recommendation for anyone new to wet shaving. First, shower to exfoliate and soften your beard. Get a high quality DE razor that's not too aggressive (I recommend a Merkur 23C) buy some Persona razor blades (they are sharp but not as sharp as Feather blades and they are good for beginners), some good quality shaving soap like Poraso Green, some shaving oil, and a good shaving brush. With your face wet, massage some shaving oil onto your face. Then lather up your soap in a shaving mug nice and thick. Apply the soap to your beard and let it sit for a minute to soak into your skin. Then hold your DE razor at a 30 degree angle and shave WITH the grain of your beard which is usually straight down. After one pass, re-wet your face, apply more lather, and perform a second pass with the grain. Usually that is good enough but if you like, you can re-lather your face and do a "clean up" pass to catch some hairs you may have missed. I usually go against the grain for my clean up pass but if you have ultra sensitive skin, I wouldn't recommend it. When your done, rinse your face with COLD water and not HOT to close your pores. Then apply your after shave lotion and you are done. I recommend Tend Skin razor bump solution to help you get rid of razor bumps and keep them from coming back. You have to be very careful shaving with a DE razor because you can cut the hell out of yourself. But once you master it, you'll be razor bump free.

why not use a bowl to lather the gel instead of using your hands?
Not to mention you wouldnt have to use more gel and if it got a bit dry you can just add some water

You can using the shaving technique the night before so that you don’t have to rush in the morning. The more times you use this method the less time you need to wait for the bump patrol to settle in your skin
