As a teenager in 2024 I can confirm that the ninja turtles would be bullied if they weren’t ninja turtles
As they deservedly should
Not because they're mutants tho, because they're dorks.
Yurrrr
Bro is not the og
as a teen in 2024 i understood and loved every reference, speak for your self.
Cinemasins: Stop showing us people vomiting!
Also Cinemasins: This thumbnail
😂
Who do you think you are??? Th3Birdman??
Was that vomit? Oh thank goodness i thought it was something worse
Gotta get clicks somehow
They had to keep seeing it, so they spread the curse to us.
I'm surprised you didn't need 16 hours! 😂 Love how you ninja-kicked into those plot holes and pizza-slapped the inconsistencies. Can't wait to see if you do a sequel critique. Will it be 'Everything Right With TMNT: When Pigs Fly'? Keep up the hilarious work!
it made over twice the budget at the box office, so i don't see why they wouldn't make a sequel. It was also an overall enjoyable film, at least to those who go in without specific expectations.
There is going to be a sequel, and a show coming out later this year as well as a video game.
Sin yourself Cinemasins, movie is getting a sequel.
And a TV series
April was the worst part of this movie
As well as the on going beating to death how pretty she was

Probably still the best movie "recap" channel ever lol.
The best part about this movie is how they really focus on the fact that these characters are supposed to be teenagers.
I love the fact they got teenagers to play the turtles
@@blazestorms4854 Which means at some point, their logo will simply be "Mutant Ninja Turtle".
Me too! I loved the teenager voices too! ❤️🧡💙💜

@DinoLayLay I dont think he was being ironic...
It's disappointing that Splinter has no ties to Hamato Yoshi or Shredder in this film. It was one of the things that made him so interesting in the other continuities.
That's how it was in the original comic, just a rat
no it wasnt, Splinter was always Hamatos pet in the original comic, he was always getting revenge for his master, the original movie and 2003 series got it right @@carbonphantom1
Maybe he does, and he kept him a secret from the turtles like the mirage comics or Splinter could be a reincarnation of Hamato Yoshi, and somehow the shredder will recognize him
Yes, yes, it's sooooo disap- HAHAHAHAHA couldn't finish that sentence without laughing
The BEST Ninja Turtles is when Splinter IS Hamato Yoshi!
The biggest sin of this movie is that the rescue scene isn't live action Jackie Chan in a rat suit doing all that
The biggest sin is that Splinter wasn't a drunken master.
They forgot to sin that they could all just walk into the unlocked school in the middle of the night
As someone in HS that is not entirely unaccurate. Tons of our uber eats driver just... walk around the school. Its a little scary.
The legs being horses confused me at first too but on my second watch I noticed that he walks into a zoo right after stepping out of the water. Thats where he mutates more and adds more animals to himself.
Yeah, but like, what zoo has horses? And that many horses?
I feel like they should have gone with zebras instead then if it was a zoo
The horse sin makes NO sense because Superfly very obviously stepped into a ZOO full of animals! That's why he has land animals!
@@SharkgobrrrrIgnore the horses, what zoo has NARWHALS? (He gets narwhal fingers when he steps out of the zoo, he didn't have them when he rose from the ocean, which wouldn't make sense either if he did get them from the ocean cuz narwhals don't swim in NY waters.) XD
@@fuzzyotterpaws4395 Read above reply
No sin removal for the animators actually having Splinter fight like Jackie Chan? That was such a loving bit of detail.
Sinning the Splinter fight is bonkers. That was a very clear homage to Jackie Chan's fighting pedigree.
Oh nooooooooooooooo lolololol
But Jackie chan trained for years splinter watched TV so him just beating everyone in that sense is really dumb
exactly, it was stupid when they did this in the micheal bay movie and its stupid here@@lucasdiazjr5679
I'll never understand why they had to create a separate fly mutant villain when they had Baxter Stockman literally in the movie. Ice Cube was great but he felt pointless.
There's there's an opinion that that was the original plan. If you look at the action figure for Superfly which they created like a year before the movie came out, his outfit is torn to shreds but it's basically Baxter's. Why they decided to make this change. I don't know if that's been discovered yet
Jeremy Jahns made a joke about this saying it was because they didnt want to rip off the movie, "The Fly" and get sued by Disney
It's extra dumb because Supafly was originally supposed to be a mutated Baxter Stockman
Superfly was the only character I liked from the movie, but I still feel ripped off that it wasn’t Stockman. Plus, Stockman is dead, so the secondary human villain of the turtles does absolutely nothing in this franchise.
I prefer this because we can get a completely different version of Baxter that we can't get if we stay with him being evil. If they kept superfly Baxter then the race allegory wouldn't work as well and we couldn't have the parallels of splinter and super fly
This movie deserves more credit for its use of music. Yeah, 4 Non Blondes' "What's Up?" is a pretty dated cut. But blending _three_ versions of it, including the one from the He-Man "HEYYEYAAEYAAAEYAEYAA" RUclips video? That's genius.
i wish there was a full version of it. ITS SO GOOD
Got to say, one of the things that surprised me with this movie was how well Jackie Chan was used, even to a point where Splinter's fighting was modeled after his own ways of improvisation in his old days. This movie utilized him better in one movie than the Kung Fu Panda films did in 4 (Cause with the news of the Furious Five being pushed even more into the background until the end, what little he got before is pretty much gonna be non-existent in 4.)
OMG FR
the minute I saw Splinter run like Jackie, I damn near fangirl'd
Truth.
Doesn’t Jackie Chan do Chinese fighting styles and not Ninjutsu? If that’s true, then that means Splinter was fighting inaccurately. 😂
@@Sean-qg3gg Given how this film chooses things, I'm pretty sure much of the Ninja thing is more branding than in-practice. They know stealth and stuff, but they are also loud and bashy too.
@@motherplayer It’s just such a shame, since with Ninjago and TMNT 2012, I’ve had a random like to ninjas. TMNT 2012 had so many actual ninja moves.
One thing I noticed is that Donatello has his phone attached to his shell and throughout all the fights it never breaks or falls off. Same with his glasses and headphones.

14:11 This video earned itself +1 sin for this comment. Pixar did not make Planes. It was just Disney that made that movie.
But it’s in the same connected universe as the Pixar-made Cars movies.
It deserves all the sins off for the inclusion of the He-Man singing "HEYEAYEAYEAH!"
They forgot to sin the point where Leo snitched. Or, as the sun should’ve said, “Turtle-tattle-tale.”
Also, in the '15 years ago again' flashback, Splinter said: 'Look at me! Im so cute.' If this was a flashback, how could the turtles look at him? Does he have polaroid images he took while he was still a rat?
@@SharkgobrrrrIt was probably a fourth wall break and he was telling US to look at him. XD
Don't really understand why people liked this movie. Art style was a shitty impersonation of Spiderman, movements look like the internet is slow and its buffering every quarter of a second, ugh. Its truly awful to look at anything in this movie. and thats before we even get to the terrible story.
I like how the thumbnail isn’t a promotional shot of the movie, but rather a clip from the movie itself.
Come to think of it, were there really any promotional shots for this movie? Outside of the Pizza Hut box collaboration I never remember seeing any posters posted on any of the social medias. I might have just missed it but I'm curious
The fact that the Teenage Turtles were voiced by _actual_ teenagers was worth a sin or two off.
"Stop making me watch people puke"

I completely forgot about that screen saver thank you for unlocking hidden childhood memories for me!!!!
“This movie is never getting a sequel…”
*looks up online*
“A follow-up television series, Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, is set to premiere on Paramount+, and a sequel film is in development.”
IT’S A SIMPLE RESEARCH JEREMY!
Great movie for anyone who isn’t a super hardcore turtles fan due to the direction it took. I LOVE IT, but I get why people don’t.
Of course, but I’ve never heard legitimate criticism, I only ever see people calling this woke/mad about april, or people complaining that this is different as if the ninja turtles has never changed the story before.
actual it's a good movie for hardcore turtles fans too
@@Peakugonah I hated this movie they just tried too hard to fit in with modern slang
@@astrowolvez The turtles steal. The film makers are trying to make it relevant to modern viewers by assuming all teenagers steal. The TMNTs are supposed to be ninja, trained by Master Splinter, who follow a strict moral code.
I am mad about April, and it is legitimate criticism to be mad about changing the race of a previously established character. And, I understand that the TMNTs are supposed to be teenagers, and previous films made them ripped, bulky, ugly, and more adult, but they had no right to turn them into fifth-graders. And yes, that is how they act. The quality of the modern teenager is shrinking.
@@Gun_Flint But they change the looks to a pretty decent extent of every character. Its not like Aprils race was ever relevant either. If your going to be mad about April then you should be equally as mad about Splinter, Superfly, Mickey, ect.
This movie officially stamped onto my brain just how old I am and have no idea what teenagers of today are like or are into.
I hated this movie with a passion.
So did most teenagers. The ones who aren't vegetating on Cocomelon still, anyway.

Respectfully disagree
I like the lesson of the Turtles learning to accept themselves and the contempt the city has for them despite putting their lives on the line for them.
Didn't like how they handled splinter (he shouldn't learn martial arts from videos) and i didnt like how they rushed and wasted alot of potential other villains in the first film.
Ironically enough, this movie is getting a sequel. So a sin for the cinema sins for not knowing that when it was announced months ago
None of this felt like tmnt and they were making fun of it. I grew up with almost all the different versions and this movie just looks flat out dumb.
You said twice that there was no way this movie was getting a sequel. My guy, they announced a sequel months ago.
There's no way in hell I'm watching a movie about the Shredder acting as a second rate bounty hunter for a character that looks like she was designed by an intoxicated abstract artist
she's Krang
what if . . she's Krang
what if . . she's Krang
what if . . she's Krang
have you noticed that they always race swap gingers more then people of colour?
They need to make a dark, violent rated r movie much more true to the original origins of the tmnt. I mean this was ok I guess, but even the 90s first film is far better and made for adults not children like this.
“Also, Americans”
Never laughed that hard before. Thank you
No offense to people that enjoy this, but I just can't get into it. I'm not a fan of the visual style and most of the character designs. The story itself might be okay(?), but it's not enough for me. 2012 TMNT was where it was at.
Same, the only time I laughed at all was when splinter’s cockroach friend was squished
Believe it or not, I went to a showing of this movie at the museum of moving images and after, one of the writers of the movie (He also wrote Mitchell's vs Machines, forgot his name) came in the theater, got interviewed......... He basically confirmed the second movie already 😭😭
Based on how it ended I should have a 2nd movie
I don't know why anyone would be surprised by this. I'm sure going in the plan was to make more movies.
They also have a series in the works. It's supposed to be the next cartoon generation from what I've seen.
Splinter was human and turned into a Rat
This movie definitely missed the mark on so many levels
He was a pet rat in the original comic and the IDW comics went with an reincarnation angle.
How could he not tell what was happening in the fight scenes?
Probably the same reason he somehow couldn't tell Superfly stepped into a literal ZOO which is why he had horses!
He's just too old and slow to keep up with the fast paced action scenes in our generation, also he's purposefully nit-picking
I don't get why they put Don in glasses to show he is intelligent in all the newer stuff. The original material did not have him with glasses & you still knew he was the smart 1. There are a lot of really dumb people who wear glasses & a lot of really smart people who don't. Wearing glasses does not mean a person is smart.
This is a Seth Rogan picture. Thought provoking and intelligent filmmaking are not in the cards.
I suspect it’s part of the ongoing trend of not making the turtles all look like carbon copies of each other, try and fit a bit more personality into their designs rather than just the coloured bandanas
@@LordSvzklxyeah but they’re literal turtles, they’re going to look alike- sure they can be built different but typical “nerd = glasses” shit is kinda old
4:23 Splinter's origins vary depending on the source material. The movies made him Hamato Yoshi's pet that learned ninjutsu from watching him. The cartoon made him Hamato Yoshi himself transformed by the mutagen. The IDW comics made him the reincarnation of Hamato Yoshi and the Turtles the reincarnations of his sons. This movie just offered a different explanation as to how Splinter knows martial arts.
Ya know, Seth Rogen's first draft had him being created by rectal insertion of a 7-Eleven burrito with too much nacho cheese sauce. I dunno why they cut it and replaced it with this; it was just as relevant. 😢
Honestly if there's one thing that annoys me about people and TMNT is when they complain that whatever the current iteration is strays too far from whatever the TMNT they consumed first was. At this point there just isn't a single _correct_ or right origin story for any character - it's a multiverse and each story can and should stray from the source material in any way it sees fit. I mean, look at the 1987 cartoon for hell's sake, haha, it's probably the biggest deviation from source material out of them all!
Yeah. And it's stupid.
@@brianmurphy6480 Sadly, since this is Seth Rogen, I don't know if you are joking or not.
@@jordankeller4253 They should stop rebooting it constantly. There's too many iterations for people to keep track of.

You could argue Twilight was the Twilight of Cinema.
I'll see myself out.
Movies have been on the outs when video games exploded onto the mainstream as a legitimate storytelling medium. Some games have bigger budgets than any film in history. Also the rise of streamed miniseries and films have killed traditional cinema. Cinema may go the way of literature as secondary or tertiary entertainment in the next few decades.
Mutant Mayhem sucked.
14:32 No he’s not, they’ve already announced a sequel, a show on Paramount +, and a video game so this TMNT franchise probably isn’t going away anytime soon but hey I’m not complaining

Oh sweet, i was waiting for you to sin this. Total banger. And I also watched the Hey Arnold! Jungle Movie, it was the proper closer ive needed and then some. I cried twice.
Sin Waterworld
Two sequels and a TV show, cause merchandising made enough before movie came out.
And a video game!
The budget was around 70 million. The movie made 180 million. Last time I checked, that is a profit.
Not to Hollywood accounting it isn't. And the rule of thumb is to double the budget since that is usually the marketing cost combined with the minimum they need to make to not be considered a disaster. A 40 million dollar profit--especially for a major license as TMNT--is not great.
The Box Office is split between the theatres and the filmmakers, this split is complex depending on location, time after release, and other factors. A common estimate is to assume the film company got half of it.
In addition, the budget normally excludes marketing costs, which can be quite significant.
Of course there are also other revenue sources (streaming, etc) and in the case of TMNT driving merchandise sales is also important, to the point that even an unpopular movie could be worth making.
Yup like the other two comments said you would have to double the budget to cover marketing and then again to split between the theaters and the studio. So it needed $280 million at least to break even. Most likely it needed more because we are basing this was all an estimate. So no it was not profitable

The way Splinter's action scene got slandered for "padding" is fucking insane. Sinning the no diggity scene for the choice of music is wild. That shit so deserved a sin off.
Also, I need everyone to understand that Splinter is just a rat in this movie because making him Yoshi's pet gives him a connection to the human world, so he's less scared of them, which completely messes with the plot and themes of the movie.
*ding* that’s racist
I completely excpteced the no diggity sequence to get a sin off. My mind is boggled.
As a 35 year old I can say I loved this movie and thought it was so cute. I loved the pop culture references! “Their Tokyo drifting around us” come on!!😂
Family guy and hey Arnold being mentioned was such a hilarious whiplash
At least it looks pretty in a different enough way from spider man and puss in boots
No rats did not have the plague rather the fleas on them they just got the blame. The extras on Ratatouille touches on that with a short
Yes! This anoyed me so much because i learnt that in 8th grade history
No. Rodents (including rats) absolutely act as plague carriers.
The fleas infect humans, after acquiring the bacteria from rodents.
In more technical terms, rodents are the reservoirs and fleas are the vectors.
This animation style is horrid to look at sometimes.
Thats what happens when they tried to be into the spiderverse
Spiderverse movies are somehow worse on the eyes, but why would you want to mimic something that ugly to begin?
It’s surprising he thinks it’s not getting a sequel because it definitely is, did well enough at box office.
And a tv show!
4:23 YES! That was how it went in the graphic novel that apparently SETH ROGEN never read!
15:07 The canon Splinter remained faithful to his deceased wife even though Shredder took her life just to spite him in the past.
In case you forgot, this guy has no relation to Hamato Yoshi, so he gets a little more flexibility to follow something different, you know.
In the Mirage comics, Splinter was always a rat and did not have a wife. Splinter and Hamato Yoshi are separate characters.
I think part of the reason for the film's poorer box office performance is because this feels like its the 39th reboot of the IP this century.

I liked this movie fine enough but I’m glad someone else mentioned this too. The amount of pop culture references and pop music being played was a bit too much for me.
9:06 this goes on for sometime
They still haven't improved on the original cartoon or on the original toys for that matter
The 2003 and 2012 series are better than the original cartoon. I am saying this as someone who is 46 and have seen every version of the Turtles. 1987 series was awesome but story wise not the greatest, 2003 and 2012 have ongoing stories
I mean i guess it doesn’t matter but why is April oNeil black? Why the change? It’s animated. It’s not like they cast an actress. It’s just a pointless change to virtue signal
Why not? It doesn't matter right? It's pointless, but not really. It diversifies the cast a little, makes the movie feel more inclusive and may attract more people to the movie. Change can be good sometimes, it's good to be open to change.
0:18 I AND THEY WISHED they'd SpiderVersed this mess.
Major sin: Mikey's a leftie in most TMNT media especially in the 2003 show and the original comic. They couldn't even get him writing with his left hand.
I'm confused... it's mentioned multiple times in this video that this film is not getting a sequel but I thought it did decent as far as box office sales and was received well by critics and audiences. You act like it bombed hard. And I am pretty sure it IS getting a sequel.
There was a good potential here for a story to complement the Spider-verse style, and they really botched it with this one.
Animation doesn't save a story and this one is a good example.
The biggest sin is people acting like the teenage mutant ninja turtles story has never been changed before.
I disagree and look forward to a sequel. The soundtrack is pretty amazing too!
Sucks it’s going to be 2026 😂 can’t wait that long!
They made April into a race swapped and unhealthy looking teenager. I was not even happy when they de-aged her and Casey in my favorite version, the 2012 series. They also portray the turtles as more children than actual teenagers to me.
