There is no doubt that I really like camping. Especially camper camping! I love the smell of a campfire, the spell of food being cooked on cast iron, and the feeling of a comfy bed. It just doesn’t get any better - that is until I go Halloween Camping! That outing at the end of the camping season has become a family tradition. It is a time of lights, stories, good food, friendship, and togetherness that just can’t be beat! If you haven’t ever been, I recommend you do! In this video I will share my recent trip with you and give you some suggestions on establishing your own Halloween tradition.
Tips for planning your own Halloween trip:
Research and find a campground for you. State Parks and Private campgrounds may have Halloween Themed Camping, but not all of them. Find out what kind of planned activities are available, and what the schedule of events may look like. Also be aware that the campgrounds may be crowded, full of kids running around, and there may be more traffic than usual (due to people riding around looking at decoration in their cars or golf carts.
Be aware of the booking windows, time of stay requirements, reservation start times, third party reservation companies (like Reserve America or Recreation.gov). I recommend creating an account ahead of time for a quicker check out.
Set reminders. Campgrounds have different booking windows and times. I recommend setting reminders throughout the year so you will not forget when it is time.
Have a backup plan. Don’t put all your eggs in one basket. See what sites are open on the day you want to book and be prepared to book an alternate if your primary doesn’t work out. It may be a good idea to have an alternate campground in mind. Don’t forget to use family and friends to help with this.
Social media can be your friend. Many campgrounds have social media pages where people will list a site open before they cancel it online. This gives other campers an opportunity to be aware that a site is open or will be opening. People also use social media sites to trade campgrounds, put out useful information, or to post pictures.
