Trombe wall in any reliable, usable form is virtually lost knowledge now. I heated a small 700 sq.ft. home in northern Canada entirely by Trombe Wall principle with separate insulated bin of thermal mass (rocks) for storage. The panels used roofing sheet metal, fiberglass insulation in lumber framed 3ft x 8 ft x 4 panels. The air flowed behind the metal, so that it acted as a second pane to single pane glass from old motel shower doors. If mounted near the ground, snow cover acts as a big reflective concentrator, and the coldest -30 deg days are always clear blue skies, so even with shorter daylight, this used to be perfectly doable, inspite of what present day know-it-all contractors tell you. What they do not tell is that their systems are overpriced, poorly made junk.
