I kinda want that “worst vampire books I’ve ever read” list
Heh, yeah, that could be fun. I've read 'Dracula: The Undead' so many times, and it is so, so bad. It's such indulgent terrible fanfiction and I kind of love it.
Does buffy fanfiction count?
Twilight.....
Oh yeah me too, and why.
"Worst Vampire Books" deserves a series, booktube lives for that kind of content
Maven is equally seductive and nerdy and adorable! It's great!
Awsamazing Eden I know right
Agreed!
The cross is actually a Benedictine cross, said to ward off demons. I have a smaller version of that crucifix myself.
Excellent!
@@MavenoftheEventide Hello,I am new to this genre.I fell in love with the Macabre/goethic/spooky genre/vampire etc because of the Addams family.Would you mind doing videos with lists of your books for your different genres*PLS*also put the ***lists in description***so it’s easily for NEW VIEWERS to print and buy at the bookstore.Thank you!!!!
Maven your Werewolf bias hurts me to my fuzzy silver fearing heart...can't we all just get along?
Q: How do you get wine from a can?
A: You decant it.
eeeeeeeeeey
I love the Historian. It was the book that made me want to be a historian my self.
“All of my dark and spooky stuff! Oh and this cute spin off of fan fiction from a book about the girl who wrote it :D”
I watched until the end but I won't reveal the secret about the wine for those who didn't.
Also, I know that was a joke but if you ever want to do another episode of My Spooky Vampire Stuff, I'd love to see an episode about the fashion/costumes. 🖤
Sabrina Granger Same!
Because you said you read all of your comments: I've greatly enjoyed your work for years and I'm always excited to see an update. Congratulations on a new home, a Patreon goal achieved, and things in life that make you happy in general. Thank you for sharing your talent with us and I look forward to seeing what you think of "I, Strahd!"
"I go through a lot of skulls." O.O
TheHeroOfTomorrow yeah how does she break the skulls?
I'm sure The Predator says the same thing.
omg i remember reading sunshine when i was in high school and LOVING it
Maven is such a cute macabre darling! she just oozes "I'm sweet and lovable but I'll also drink your blood"
Elisa I have been following your show since the days of TGWTG and the very first interview with a vampire review. You have grown so much and it warms my heart to see how much you care about the fans and willing to do request and cater to us. You're one of my absolute favourites for both quality and being a sweet person.
I haven't really got anything to say I just wanted to let you know your videos are good and you should feel good
You can admit it, the book club participants will be your first childes. You know they're good companions, they read books.
And thank you for the tour.
I see "The Historian" by Elizabeth Kostova, and I am SUPER happy!!
I didn't know you could get canned wine. Loved this. I'm gonna read Kindred this summer!!
On a side note Trader Joes has some good inexpensive canned wine. Also I love the plain branding on them.
I've literally never heard of canned wine. What a revelation!
I might drink more wine if I had it in a can
Wine from a can? Uncanny. Love, from a big fan.
honestly very excited for anita blake review
Could you do a video on your Phantom bookshelf sometime? I know you showed pictures of it, but it’d be cool to see you go through it!
Oh man... I’d love to sometime, but would people actually be into that? I also have hundreds of Phantom non-book items.
Maven of the Eventide the Phantom of the Opera is great, I'd love to see that.
Maven of the Eventide I can’t speak for everyone, of course, but a Phantom fan like me would go crazy for it. It would also help less educated fans realize that there’s more to Phantom media than Leroux and Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Maven of the Eventide I fourth that sentiment
I would absolutely, positively *adore* it if you made a video about your Phantom collection!! It could clock in at three hours and I swear I would watch it all in one sitting. Please.
It was so good to hear Paw's voice again right at the end. Have literally not heared it in years.
I was still listening, and I did hear that.
That was really nice of Angela to send you the little vampire book,I really enjoyed reading them when I was a kid
"Wine from a can."
It's a great day when you post a video on RUclips. I guess I need to look in to this "pay-tree-on" thing you speak of, and start giving you money like some kind of "Vampire PBS". If I'm going to watch, then I should invest. Love you too!
I to would agree about Nancy Collins being an excellent read although I do feel you loose sight of Sonja as being a vampire sometimes. But the world she creates has a very World of Darkness feel (so much so that White Wolf invited her to write Sonja into the WoD as a Caitiff vampire/hunter) - A Dozen Black Roses. If you can find it check it out.
David Whitfield, yes I would agree on all counts. My favorite artist Tim Bradstreet who started his career with White Wolf game covers, did the cover art for hard back edition of A Dozen Black Roses.
Hi Tom, Nancy Collins Sonja Blue vampire fit in quite well with World of Darkness as it turned out. Even in the first novel she showed a world that was full of supernatural creatures that were in part covered by some of the other games in WoD. Yes loved his Jeanette and I did update her skin in my game to the Bradstreet. I loved the clan book covers in most part except for the Tremere and the Tzimisce. The Tremere didn't feel right - at least the 1st ed. (needed a moustache and beard imo ;P). The 1st ed. Tzimisce clanbook cover never made any sense given their nature and just seemed to be an excuse to put two women on the cover - vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/whitewolf/images/b/b0/Vtmcbtzimisce.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20170225022138.
I find your voice so comforting. Even if I didn't love vampires, I'd still probably enjoy watching and listening.
"Wine came from a can." Love this video!
Who’s idea was it to put wine in a CAN?!
So yes, you know I’ve watched most of this and am currently listening to the end of this. D&D vamps to come, sounds interesting.
I had a fangirl attack when I saw "Carry On" in her stack of books.
I'm a big fan of the Anita Blake series. I'm looking forward to that.
I'm such a dork that I went "aww" when you said people who watched 'til the end were pretty awesome. ❤ Thaaaaaanks...AND SURPRISE PAUL APPEARANCE. Books AND you two being cute as hell, what more could I want?
I would totally love to see a top ten best and worse vampire book/book series video from you- be great to see
You should do your own annotated version of Dracula. That would be the best vampire book EVER (p.s. your videos are great I think you put so much effort in and it really pays off for you 🖤
ahhh the Vampire wine and vampire perfume days! Still loving your videos all these years later.
1. Who puts wine in a can? 2.Blood and Donuts! One of the best 90's vampire movies ever! 3. Have you ever read Lost Souls by the then Poppy Z. Brite? It was one of THE vampire books for the alternative goth set back in the 90's. I think went through half a dozen copies because I kept on loaning the book out and they seemingly "vanished".... 4. As far as modern vampire novels go, I can't recommend Suffer the Children by Craig DiLouie enough. It's a unique take on the vampire novel. Basically, in the span of 24 hours, all the pre-pubescent children of the world drop dead. Just like that. A day later they come back to life but to keep them "living" they need to feed on human blood. So, you have the world tearing itself apart for each other's blood in order keep their children alive. The monsters in the book are not so much the vampire children but their very human parents. It's a creepy, creepy book.
You will like the Anita Blake vampire Hunter series I hope you enjoy reading it I have all the comic books two and some of the paperbacks of the Anita Blake series
Ah Maven, like myself you get far more books than you can read! Hmm, if the little fella ends up not liking vampires you're gonna be pissed off...
A vampire review of Carry On would be amazing- really loved how Rainbow Rowell handled the vampire stuff. And the magic stuff. And the Chosen One stuff. I just adore it overall.
the reformed vampire support group is amazing. I was hoping you would have it. It’s an easy read and it’s really funny. Hope you enjoy it, thank you for doing this for us!
"Wine from a can" *now has a list to take to the book store* HOOWAY! *whispers* you and Paw are so cute
The Reformed Vampire Support Group is so good!!! I have read it multiple times!
I've always wondered if Maven's ever come across "Model" by Lee So-Young? It's a short (7 book) manga series about a starving artist who gets stuck in a sort of deal with the devil with a vampire. It's got a distinctive and beautiful art style and the story centers around the sexy, emotionally tortured vampires Maven prefers. It's the only manga series I've ever enjoyed enough to actually purchase. There's also the anime "Red Garden", about four teenage girls that are turned into vampire-like creatures and forced to fight were-wolf-like (kinda, sorta, not really) creatures. It takes a lot of vampire tropes and traits and kind of runs with them without ever using the word vampire. Would love to see a review of either of these, but regardless, loved seeing your marvelous collection Maven, and can't wait to see the next review!
yes! i'm so happy you've achieved your $800 goal! congratulations, you 100% deserve it.
thank you for walking us through your collection. you've recommended so many good books and i can't wait to get them.
i know where that wine comes from xD
watched the whole thing with glee, and took in-depth notes!
There's a book called Monsters In The Movies by director John Landis and there is a section for vampires and Dracula...there's an interview with Christopher Lee as well. In addition to this I have the book Tales Of Horror: Vampires. and In The Footsteps Of...the latter is basically a book about Dracula.
I don’t know what you ended up doing with your Twilight paperbacks, but I love the idea of you signing them or inserting a signed card and doodling in them and giving them away in a contest.
Annotated copies would be fun too, but a lot more work.
Great video! A best vampire books and worst vampire books lists would be great. I'll become a patron now.
Man, i love this woman. One big hug from Brazil!
The Reformed Vampire Support Group is amazing but... it is a kids book, not young adult but like 8-10 year old kids book, and that's a good thing to keep in mind- It has it's problems but it is probably one of my favorite vampire novels, a guilty pleasure that I don't feel guilty about enjoying. I totally agree that Dracula: The Un-dead is one of the worst vampire books, I got it for Christmas one year and I haven't read it since.
I really enjoyed this video and really all of what you do. Taurus and in NC club, whoo!
I watched this last night, rewatched with my phone in hand to update my goodreads list. 🕸
I love the skeleton beany baby! I got it for my sister when we were both teens.
You talking about the wine reminded me how much i enjoyed you and Nella doing that big pumpkin beer break down. I'm going to go rewatch all that :)
I just wanted to say that your passion for books and the gothic is super inspiring, and the way you incorporate them into everything - your livelihood, your decorating, your clothing and general aesthetic- is really - beautiful to watch. You inspire me to embrace my own inner fangirl! I love that I learn a lot about things like storytelling and characterisation and franchises from your videos, but I adore the fact that you seem like someone who is excited about (un)life and loves things unironically with the whole of their geeky undead heart. So thank you SO much for all the work you put into your videos. It’s amazing
Pretty much every time I watch one of your videos, I consider how I might write vampires into my novel so I might one day get to hear you talk about it. I've really loved hearing your thoughts on all these vampire stories over all these years.
For what it’s worth, I quite like your current setup, canned wine and all!
"Sunshine" is good - you should definitely put that high on the list of things to read. It annoyed me a bit when I first started reading it because it is one of those books in which the narrator starts talking to you like you know more about the world than you do...but then you start to see that it is a really interesting alternate version of our world. It also has a nice balance of the vampire being sympathetic and yet still dangerous and strange - not just a cute guy with fangs and a tragic backstory. I don't think there is a sequel but I wish there was.
I would love to see any and all reviews for those books you mentioned😊😊
Personally I love video essays, I don't even care what they are about I'll always watch them cause there's always a point to learn, and maybe you can learn something about yourself from them.
Can wine. Please read Sunshine ASAP! It's one of my favorite books and I can't wait to see what you think!
Happy late birthday! Cool stuff and I’ll have to look up some of the books you mentioned
The rest of her apartment or house looks perfectly normal. And then there's just this vampire corner....😍
Well it doesn't look like Guillermo de Toro's house or anything. But I do try to go for a classy Addams Family meets Victorian Grandma vibe for most of the rest of it.
The bloopers at the end were cute!
The wine from the can made me laugh! Thank you for sharing your shelf!! :-)
"This wine came from a can" i just added a ton of things to my tbr list.
Mmmmm! That canned wine! I love your reviews, everything you do, really. I'm super excited for your book!!
A nice selection, Mav!
Thank you very much for sharing your lovely videos. Greetings from Transylvania! :)
Gooooood evening to you too! my dad came in the kitchen while i was watching this and he turns to me and goes.
"Is she saying goo eeeeee ink?" So i'll never see it the same again.
Vampire Strahd book is interesting, cause at one point it is a vampire book with associated Tropes-you also see a fair amount of dungeons and dragons tropes fit in kind of weirdly to it occasionally. Its also mid 90s dungeons and dragons concept- which is a whole ball of wax. I am not sure its good as a book, but if you can you may want to try doing the D&D adventure module its based on-which is excelent and maybe a better way of experiencing it-i am not talking about it from "oh killing monsters is fun part"-but the way it kind of tells the same story is real neat-honestly one of the better things they ever did.
Please do some folklore stuff, unrelated to any media but just explaining vampires throughout history in different parts of the world!
Holly shit that bat drawing at 5:10 looks exactly like the ones I drew in a high school art class. It was the only living thing I ever figured out how to draw well so every time I needing to draw an animal or if I just could think of anything to draw, I drew it. I probably drew it at least a dozen times in that class. Its looks so close to my drawings it has to be based off the same reference picture.
Yes, can't wait for you to read the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series! It's my favourite guilty pleasure (pun not intended) series.
Here till the end!
To answer your question, Maven(Elisa): Yes, I watched this through to the end; how captivating your style of presentation is.
"The wine, from a can isn't bad"; * wide eyed with a slight head-tilt * Plus, the chocolate-bottomed Dracula; "... delicious vampire turds" ... "Do you need a tripod?" ---out-takes were fun.
I hope you'll be checking out Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition!
dude you rock! I loved your guide to vampires series (and the guide to werewolf) I love it when one of my favorite youtubers comments on another of my favorite youtubers!
its like comentception!
she should totally get the art Collection by Tim Bradstreet...which I had, but I lost sadly
It's lovely to be here!
Okay, fair warning from a former Anita Blake fan-- The first book on to the book titled Obsidian Butterfly are the BEST of the books, and if you get into the series then, then please, for your sanity and if you want to have ANY respect for Anita, STOP AT OBSIDIAN BUTTERFLY! You'll be glad you did.
And as for Sunshine YES! All the YES! It's so good! You'll love it.
I've loved watching all your videos Elise! I watched all the way to the end!
I love vampires with all my soul and life. How did not know your channel ?!
Paul is right, that is a strange place to put chocolate and I would laugh while filming that too haha
your show has consistently been one of my favs on RUclips. I've been watching you ever since I was pretty young, and I'm nineteen now and I cant even say how much cool media your show has introduced me to!!!!! cheers to reaching your patreon goal, and cheers to many more patrons coming your way in the future!!!!! :D
I kinda want a “good evening”compilation after seeing the beginning of the video lol
Yes the Historian I love that one! This was a fantastic tour I have more reading to do ,thank you!
Thank you for sharing. This was wonderful!
I think it's great you went over your collection. I don't drink wine but I'm sure can wine is just fine. Great video, hope to see more stuff updates in the future, and I watched to the end of the video.
The Vampirella series was my first actually named and non victim female vampire. She’s also not portrayed as being European; from her, I went on to Chinese, Japanese, and African vampires.
Yes, her costume is INCREDIBLY exploitive, but like Blackula, she turned the common perception on its head, at least briefly. Would you consider discussing this series of comics and books?
Also... yeah, payday dependent, I’ll look into patreon. I’m still learning about it.
Canned wine is only canned if you don’t pour it into a fancy glass. ;)
Nothing wrong with a little can wine, love all your videos and looking forward to reading your novel later on. Keep up the great work Elisa!
I heard that. I love chill videos like this. You can occasionally tab out to check out something else and when you miss something, you can just jump back and look at that cool thing.
Also this reminds me that I wanted to look up more info on an old-ish German print of The Picture of Dorian Gray I once took from a "for free" table at a music festival... I have no clue how old it is because it has very little when it comes to publisher information...
Just an update, in case ANYONE would be curious and since I still have this tab open: it's an Austrian edition, not a German one, and it's from 1960. Not ancient but still a respectable age.
I love monsters and I love books, so of course I watched all the way through! I'm so happy you mentioned David J. Skal! I loved his book, "Monster Show"!
Love your sense of humor and I bet you’ve got to be the coolest mom ever 💜🦇
Watched to the end, and I need to send you a picture of one of my reference books.
Question: Would you be interested in some vampire miniatures painted by me? Starting a paint commission gig and send a haunt of various ghosts to CR as a gift. If so. Only vampires or vampires with others (ghouls, ghosts, etc)?
Uhuh. Right. Like you're not going to send me a whole pack of werewolves. I'm onto you >_>
Maven of the Eventide oh no. All the werewolves are staying with me. It's moot. Some from reaper minis, goo.gl/images/pafBc1 for example. This one I did for a friend of mine in Connecticut,
i1087.photobucket.com/albums/j462/PaladinDemo/minis%20and%20artwork/IMG_20180310_170214686.jpg
Or from wizkids, goo.gl/images/KyC6F7. I'll even throw in a evil wizard for paw and a mad scientist for the thin blood. You also get my permission to criticize my work.
wine from a can! I'm also pretty bummed that the Phantom of the Opera that's usually known isn't the one from universal studios and that's probably because of the lack of merchandising.
Kim Newman is like a subgenre in his own right. He's a film critic whose nonfiction is just as interesting if you're interested in all things spooky. His guide Nightmare Movies is a terrific resource. I just suggest you get the "updated" version, which is technically a collection of two volumes (it was originally written in the 80s, so the new one has whole chapters covering new material). His film criticism informs the Anno Dracula series. I discovered a whole bunch of movies and books because of it. And paperbackswap is an amazing way of trading books. I've found some real treasures there.
You have a really great setting
Oh Maven when you said nobody wanted to play with you at 5:43 I was like OHHH poor Maven.
I actually really like the Reformed Vampire Support Group. It’s not quite what u expect based on the title and the plot goes off directions that are a bit off topic, but I really liked the main character and how she learned to find enjoyment out of her life even though in the books universe being a vampire is more of a debilitating illness than anything else.
Sorry for the long comment but I hope u end up reading it even if it’s not for a review. I love ur videos and ur style is always on point :)
I’ll take you’re Paperback twilight, I was a huge twilight fan as a teenage girl so I ended up collecting several copies of it for a similar reason to you. When people I knew decided they hated it they gave the copies to me cause I loved it so much.
I’m aware twilight isn’t perfect now but I’m actually pretty proud of my several copies, lol, I could totally use another 😅
Wine from a can.
I put this on while sorting through paperwork, listened to the whole thing. =)
Im a Mayday baby too!!!!!!! Hey, Hey !!!! Mayven!!!! May 1st here too! we're Mayday babies!!!!!! Beside that, nice tour! And happy birthday. At the moment it was a day ago!
I love your vampire book collection. It is very impressive, you should be very proud. I watched the whole thing until the very end. I love watching your videos. Your videos make me happy and I learn so much more about vampires from your videos. So thank you and keep up the good work
