Eastriggs charity road run 3rd Sept 2023. Lots of tractors of every shape & size!

A charity road run in aid of Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw Children’s Hospice organised by Fiat tractor enthusiast Peter Hornby and his family. Setting off at Eastriggs and travelling through the beautiful countryside and towns of southern Scotland on a glorious sunny day, over 70 tractors a mix of vintage, classics and moderns took part on the run. For obvious reasons (i was taking part myself) I couldn’t film the run itself but I did capture the beginning and lunch time stop at the Solway wind farm where hopefully I managed to film everyone that took part (apologies if I didn’t). A huge thank you goes to my good friend Stuart Barbour for the loan of his immaculate Massey Ferguson 390 allowing me to take part on the day, very much appreciated Stuart (team Barbour/ Winthrop photo at the end) . All in all a fabulous day out, enjoyed by many and in aid of a very good cause.

What a wonderful collection of tractors David, helping raise funds for a very worthwhile cause too. You look pretty happy with yourself at the end standing beside the MF 390 and I would have been too. Was great to see so many tractors that I have operated over the years and that Nuffield 460 was great. My first tractor was a Nuffield Universal which had no brakes and had to be parked on a hill so it could be bump started lol. Glad you have a great day out.

It certainly was a great turnout and very colourful one at that Fraser. I was very happy on the Massey 390, a lovely tractor to drive through the beautiful Scottish countryside. Those old tractors bring back great memories, I’ve never driven a Nuffield (I know the likes of the 460 and Universal had an offset steering column) though plenty of later Leyland and Marshall models. Ha I know that feeling but that’s much better than getting addicted to Easystart! Thanks Fraser, a great day. Cheers, David.

Thanks Steve, I only seen the tractor behind in my mirrors, fortunately not the chaos further back! Yeh the 390 suits me just fine, nice and simple to drive with a straight forward gearbox! Cheers David
