My Grandma had one of these with the 5.7 V8 Hemi and I remember shortly after I got my drivers license she picked me up and let me drive for hours. What an awesome introduction to driving that was
Did we have the same grandma? My grandma had one as well with the same engine, hers was the 300C Heritage Edition with an awesome red candy paint, she lived a state away so I never saw her very often but I remember how much I loved that car as a kid. Was able to drive it when I was older and got my license too, it probably added to my infatuation of boat-like cars
I loved these when they came out. That 2.7 wasn’t strong enough for this heavy of a car though. And yes they weren’t reliable. The 3.5 was better but the 5.7 in one of these was the way to go. The 2.7 performed best in the Sebring/ stratus which were much lighter.
The most popular vehicle in a mid 2000s hip hop song. When Chrysler was good. Midnight Club 3 dub Edition! The V8 300C is actually quite durable and reliable.
Chrysler wasn’t that good. The interior was made of crappy plastic in retrospect. This car was just nice bc we didn’t have anything like it in a long long time.
Hah! I owned and babied a 2009 300c, second owner, previous owner was a retired couple. That thing was such a piece of crap! Great engine, but everything else was crap.
Second comment: My best friend at the time, his dad had a silver 300. It was a mid trim model with the larger V6, and the wheels were these weird looking solid dinner plates without any distinguishable spokes. The higher up you go in trims, the more luxurious it gets with the wood trim and wood steering wheel. The stereo I believe was Boston Acoustics? These cars had such a road presence that just doesn't exist anymore in today's SUV riddled roads. I would seriously buy one of these today if they weren't such a reliability nightmare. Lastly, I remember the sun reflecting off all those chrome accents on the dials and gauges and shifter in the interior. It looks nice, but man, my eyes! Lol
The rentals I drove of these were shocking in how many problems they had. I've owned Chryslers before and after the Daimler era, these were on a whole other level of problems.
The 3.5L engine was reliable and proven from the ealy 90s dodge Intrepid. If you optioned the Chrysler 300 with the 3.5L with a touring Pkg with the Mercades transmission, it was a very reliable smooth car.
Despite all the negative reviews here, I still enjoy my Chrysler 300, 2006,2.7L bought in 2009, and still being driven in 2024 . It's beautiful, stylish, smooth, and durable.
My dad had a 1999 chrysler 300m and we took that on so many trips, what a wonderful car it was. And it had a 3.5 liter Benz v6, used on some modern mercedes products like the ml, gl, and e class.
In my country (Singapore), Chrysler 300s were used as limo taxis. Most taxis in Singapore at the time were diesel powered, so the 300 used a 3.0 litre turbodiesel V6 from Merc. I remember sitting in one when I was younger and I legitimately thought it was the most boujee car I've sat in. The flagdown rate for those taxis weren't cheap though at $5.
Old Chryslers will always have a place in my heart. My area could not get enough of 300s they were EVERYWHERE when they came out. Too bad you’re too fat to fit in it” and my parents never forgot that moment
I take issue with the 2.7 6 cylinder engine when everyone condemns it for being what it is! Does it have problems? Yes, but not if you know enough about maintenance if you own one! I have a 2002 Dodge Intrepid with 126000 miles on it that also has that same engine and I have NEVER had a problem with it! I've owned the car since new and I still love it as much as I did when I brought it home!!! The engine is routinely maintained every 3-4ooo miles!!! No sludge, no water pump issues...NOTHING!!!! So, go ahead and belittle that engine till the cows come home, and I'll still be driving mine around!!!

As someone who grew up outside the U.S., I idolized American cars in the 80s and 90s. It's truly sad and astonishing to see the decline in American manufacturing, as exemplified by the quality of this car.
I had one of these as a rental when I interviewed for a job in Newport News in 2006. Coming from a Mazda 3 and Honda Accord, it seemed strangely oversized and claustrophobic at the same time, thanks to the small windows. The quality of the interior plastics and trim was also remarkably bad for what was supposed to be a luxury car. Thanks, Doctor Zee, for crapifying Chrysler products so they didn't encroach on the luxury of Mercedes!
The Seventh, and unfortunately, Last Generation (1990-3) Imperial was SUCH A BEAUTIFUL CAR with those wrap-around taillights made just 90 minutes North by NorthWest of Chicago!!!!!😎😎Unfortunately, I haven't seen one in Forever and road salt has surely taken MANY of them.
I just recently sold my 2010 Chrysler 300C for a 2021 Mazda 3 Turbo AWD Hatch, I miss the black pearl quite a bit the 5.7L Hemi was so much fun to thrash. I dropped it on BC Racing coilovers and it on some proper summer slicks it looked and felt great. I owned it for nearly 5 years and it didn't ever let me down, I got a surprising amount of attention and compliments from it as well clean first gens are getting a lot less common. Best first car I think I could've possibly gotten I wish I could've justified keeping her. The 2.7L, the 3.5L and 4 speed suck, in my experience though the 5.7L and 5 speed NAG1 hold up pretty well just make sure it was well taken care of and it should do you well.
My opinion, they should never have offered a "BASE" model with the 2.7L V-6 and plastic hubcaps. It cheapened the brand with was awsome in the Limited and C editions.
1st of all, nice w211 e class, now for my rant i, an european, have never seen these headlights on a 300, i am used to the smaller, rounded ones, i did some research and basically the rectangular headlights mean V6 and the rounder (cooler looking ones) mean V8, idk why chrysler decided to make them have 2 different front ends but it's nice that you can tell them apart so easily
In 2009 I shopped used Dodge Magnums, which IIRC had the same engines available as the 300. I remember there being a larger 6 that made ALL the difference if you were determined to avoid the 8.
I had an 06 300 in the same color. I got it used. Mine was a Touring with the 3.5 and 5 speed automatic. It lasted me 13 years and 140k miles. It had 200k miles when rust took it's toll and busted the rear subframe. That 2.7 engine was complete junk. Even the 5.7 v8 had many oiling issues.

Antilock brakes were optional on this generation of 300, one of the last cars where ABS wasn't standard. There's a chance this car doesn't have ABS. I remember watching Jeremy Clarkson reviewing one of these, though his probably wasn't the base model. The white-faced Indiglo gauges still look classy. I'm curious what this car's story is, why the buyer ordered a base model and why it has so few miles. It's pretty clean with the exception of the Midwest rust. Cloth seats should be optional on every trim. Cloth seats don't get burning hot in the summer, don't get freezing cold in the winter, breathe well, and don't require regular conditioning.
just found this exact car on fbook market place for 1100$ owner says it has a crack in engine and is leaking oil. but like...1100 has 70k miles on it might be worth to swap an engine in there for cheap and resell or even just junkyard ls swap it the kit for that is only 2700$ + a 500$ junkyard ls.
It’s incredibly shocking that any car with that 2.7L is still on the road. 60k miles is longer than most of those engines have lasted, I’ve known people with avengers that had gone through 5 engines within 80k miles of ownership
Whether it's this first gen or the second gen (2011-2023), I believe the lower trim levels really did a lot to erode the reputation of the 300 nameplate and sales figures.
Good review. The 2.7 was one of the biggest contributor to destroying Chrysler's reputation (along with the ultradrive). I never understood why they put that powerless, inefficient, unreliable, unrefined engine in the LX cars. I drove one as a rental and it wouldn't even chirp the tires. If they wanted an engine below the 3.5, they should have used the bulletproof 3.3 OHV. Those had decent low end torque to haul a heavy car around while getting decent fuel economy. I remembered that the base 300 had cloth interior. This was the consequence of making one model to replace both the 300M and Concorde. The Concorde was made in the tradition of the Newport (a Plymouth offering under a Chrysler label). This undercut the luxury image of the caring a person was spending at the time $45k for a top of the line SRT model which looked similar to the $24k base model (the cheapening of the interior Daimler did also didn't help either).
The 5.7 isn't reliable either, and that one IS in many other vehicles. Pointing this out because I had watched a YT review and nowhere did they say the 5.7 had its major weaknesses too. On researching found many issues. Just good to know!
Well, you look hard enough, you can find issues with Anything. Peeps say the GM 2.5 Iron Duke is bulletproof. I went through three of them. And None of them made it to 100,000 miles.

I *love* the exterior styling on these cars. I've always wanted to get one, gut the awful modern interior, and put a nice '70s interior in it. Bucket seats in an American sedan are a sin. Probably not worth the effort, though...
Yeah, nope. Those letter series cars have absolutely nothing to do with LX cars. The 300M totally broke any connection (which was a cynical 300 badge glued onto the Eagle Vision at the last minute). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysler_300
Previous gen. Tom Gale sedans SO superior, had LHS as Vegas rental twice, 100 mph. highway cruise without trying from 250 hp. OHC V6, metallic gold on gold leather, alloys, only domestic to remind me of my '74 E9 (Bob Lutz influence?). Then Daimler kiĺled 'em.
There’s really not much American about this car besides the badge since it’s built on an ancient Mercedes platform (still using the same one today) and the engine was co-developed with Mitsubishi. Idk why you’re surprised this has rear vents when a new Mazda 3 doesn’t, most economy cars don’t have them, and even this base model was a price and size class or two above a Mazda 3
The interesting thing is, if this 300 had leather interior it would look like shit... faded faux leather and cracks. Man, to have a proper RWD sedan with cloth seats, one can only dream.

The interesting thing is, if this 300 had leather interior it would look like shit... faded faux leather and cracks. Man, to have a proper RWD sedan with cloth seats, one can only dream.
You say "ours" but the Chesler 300 has the underpinnings of the W211 Mercedes E-Class 🤷♂️
🤔Would a 318 fit? No no! A 225 slant 6! Yea buddy!
Take a shot every time he (wrongly) declares this as the first generation
Yeah, Wikipedia says the 300 started in 1964!!🧐
Just a pimped Mercedes, nuthing American about these C300s. 😅
I thought these were cool when they first came out
You could bet 1,000,000 on an American made car not truck car that last 200,000m. You would get your money worths
Til a Rolls Royce pulls up
This video is for you Chrysler 300 owners! that have 30% car loans , multiple black ice tree air fresheners hanging and complaining about their "baby-daddies"

The luxury sedan of struggling Americans
Ahh, the minimum wage Rolls Royce
A poor mans royce
Hellcat swap
Very Unreliable indeed LOL though it looked cool
These are painfully slow
Very junky cars.
this car is a ripoff its not a phantom
Plastic steering wheel - yuck
Not even close to a first gen 300. For the LX platform in 05 yes but in general no. I owned 2 LH based ones. I had 2 02 300M Specials 3.5L HO of course here in the states the Euro spec could be had with the 2.7. I also had an 02 Intrepid R/T 3.5 HO and my first car when I was 12 was a 96 Intrepid ES 3.5. Great cars but the 2.7 was terrible. Get one with the 3.5 and it's great. I also had an 08 300C SRT8 6.1L very fun. Also they never had a 6 speed they had the nag1 5 speed and in 2012 they introduced the german ZF 8 speed
