Then I come back to the present moment and think about how much has changed, how much I've grown, how Emmy's life has changed too. It's nice :)
In Hawaii, when they make Spam fried rice, they marinate the spam in sugar and shoyu solution and then caramelized the spam in the pan to add to the rice. So good!

When my girls were young, at least once a week I used Ramen noodles or rice and added leftover bits of meats and vegetables from dinners! I had one container in the fridge for all miscellaneous vegetables that weren't enough for another meal, so it would have maybe 1/2 cup of broccoli, handful peas etc. Then another container for protein which might have 1/2 pork chop, a hot dog, bit steak etc. This was always the kids favorite lunch! Happy New Year All! May 2021 be more peaceful and healthy!
When I was a kid, before school, one of the meals my mom would cook up was a really quick fried rice, with eggs, onions and garlic. I loved it so much that I'd request it sometimes. My version, I do add spam, shrimp, eggs, green onions, onions, garlic, and add in about a quarter bag of frozen veggies containing carrots, peas and corn. Instead of salt like my mom's, I use oyster sauce. I'll need to try yours... it does look so yummy!

Thank you so much for the idea of chopping up your green onions when you first get them. Every single time I have bought them they end up going bad on me because I don't use them fast enough. And your idea about chopping them up and put them in a container is the perfect answer for me. I made my first veggie fried rice today and it turned out really good I didn't have green onion but I certainly will the next time thank you so much for the video
I learned a great trick with the green onions/scallions.... lop off the base and put them upright in some water, and they grow new stems you can use. I stuff paper towels into a short glass and put the onion bases between the glass and paper and add water. Those rooty scraps will make you fresh onions. Romain lettuce too! I'm now trying it with a bok choy base.

I make this weird fried rice that my mom’s Okinawan friend taught her to make in the 70s. It is leftover rice, a can of corned beef chopped up and sautéd with onion, ginger and some garlic. Once it is all mixed you add a mixture of ketchup, Worcestershire sauce and a little soy sauce and stir it into the rice mix, top each portion with a fried egg. When I make it I use some mixed veggies in it, and use a brown rice and quinoa blend instead of regular rice. It was one of my comfort foods when I was a child. That and yakisoba were two recipes Chieko taught my mom and they were my two favorites as a child.
One of my favorite memories growing up was coming down for breakfast and marveling at big pile of fried rice my mom cooked and comparing it to a mountain. It was always a favorite of my brother and I! Thank you for another great video emmy!
Uncle Roger gonna roast you for not using a wok 😹 However, using the chicken bullion powder might be acceptable for MSG substitution. I just noticed that emmy didnt add any garlic and ginger. Its a classic egg fried rice ingredient but can be omitted i guess?

Ever since it’s my go-to weekday dinner, and I’ve even converted a bunch of my New England friends who used to be deeply suspicious of Spam 😄 It’s SO good
If you don't have cooked rice on hand, I've found browning/frying dry rice before steaming works just as well, keeps grains individual, also adds some toasty flavor 👍
You can really do a lot with fried rice. I make a curry cheese fried rice that's a hit with the family. Rice, minced lamb, curry powder, garlic, onions, salt pepper, beef bullion powder, a bit of sweet soy sauce keca manis, green peas and cubed cheddar cheese(the cheap Kraft kind). Really really delicious when you're bored with the regular fried rice.
A tip for parents of toddlers. My mom made me a lot of scrambled egg with lots of veggies, cheese and ham in it. Whips up super fast either in a small pot or even in a bowl in the microwave. Just a egg, a slice of cheese (preferably not American but normal cheese, but u do u), a few slices of ham/pieces of hotdogs, some frozen peas, carrots, corn etc. Done in like 2 minutes. Fast, easy, delicious and pretty nutritious Works well with toast for kids that aren’t toddlers anymore.
Fried rice is a staple in our house. We use whatever we have in the fridge. Spam, ham, steak, char siu, adobo, kalua pig, Kim chee, cabbage, shrimp, kamaboko, crab, Vienna sausi, tuna, we use oyster sauce and shoyu. It's so good!
I made this night before last before seeing this video. I made it exactly the same, using leftover rice, leftover spam, the same veggies, even down to the drizzle of sesame oil. I had the Knorr chicken bullion but didn’t know that trick. However, I did use soy sauce. Glad to see my cooking skills live up to Emmy’s. Delicious! Thanks, I needed that validation.

I appreciate that the more abrasive sounds are subdued (like scraping sounds, blender sounds, etc). As someone with sensory overload, it's refreshing to hear. ❤️❤️❤️
I make mine by using already cooked rice a little oil. Fry it up and add soya sauce, hosin sauce, sesame oil, an egg, and fish sauce just a a few drips. Sometimes I add green onions and cut them quick with scissors right in the pot. 😋
OMG Knorr bouillon is a must have! I have chicken, beef and the tomato with chicken! Definitely going to try this version next time! Thank you for the idea! OMG 8:39 is so adorbs! If #FoodIsHappiness was a person, you would be it!
Interesting. Looks yummy. Got a couple chores to finish before settling back down to watch.... Happy New Year Or, as a friend said recently, *hopeful* New Year! To those who welcome such wishes
When you make the version with soy sauce, do you add any other seasonings? My Japanese grandfather taught me to make fried rice when I was a kid. He'd use leftover rice, shoyu, a bit of fish sauce, eggs, ham, peas & carrots, a small drizzle of sesame oil and top it off (in the bowl) with a few good shakes of furikake.
I am making fried rice and eating while watching this. We use white long grain rice (Carolina Brand), we use soy sauce and sesame oil too but I was intrigued that you used Knorr Chicken broth, we don't use it too since we often use chicken in our fried rice. I love that you used Spam, I have never thought of using Spam for fried rice, yours looks so good. I wanna try it!
Hi Emmy just incase you don't know, when you get a piece of egg shell in your eggs, it can be easier to get it out using the larger egg shell part to scoop it up. For some reason the shell attracts the other peice of itself.
I'd never had it before, and then I had it on a fried rice breakfast bowl. I was an immediate believer in the power of Spam. It goes so well with everything in this dish.
Hi Emmy! I made fried rice yesterday (2 Jan as well!) and I had some left-over char siu pork I made because I was going to make some steamed buns. Our recipes are very similar, except I seasoned my eggs with fish sauce (the Thai side of me). I didn't think about using using the chicken powder seasoning, I just sprinkled some Ajinomoto over the top instead. I'll try it with the chicken seasoning next time!
Definitely going to follow your tip on cooking the eggs separately, I always have a cakey mess when I add eggs to everything! You've convinced me too, I'm going to make fried rice for dinner tonight!
Ginger is optional but it needs some chilis. They are not optional in Southeast Asia. Garlic is mandatory. We would add a dash of fish sauce too. Phom chob Khao Pad Moo.
We season our fried rices the same! Good to know others use the chicken bouillon, white pepper and touch of sesame oil! Best combo! I also do a touch of liquid aminos. Yum.
(Mumble) years ago, I ran a vegetarian restaurant. We made fried rice, too, a regular on the menu. We had a choice what you could have in your rice, but mixed vegetables could be anything. I didn't put things people obviously wouldn't like. Beets, for instance. I'd usually end up taking the borscht home and dying fabric with it. Didn't sell much of that. But anything that was at market would often get put in fried rice.
Fried Rice is a great way to clean out your fridge. One thing I like to do is to not scrabble the eggs but to create a flat omelette. i roll it up and neatly chop it into bits. It makes for perfect shapes of eggs and even distribution when mixing the rice. It is also very visually pleasing.
Easy, inexpensive, quick to make, has a wide latitude for ingredients, is forgiving of inexpert technique, and the best thing, it's delicious and fairly fussy-eater proof to boot. Possibly the most ideal recipe if there is such a thing.
After frying the cooked fried rice and veggies;I make a well in the middle of pan and scramble the egg in it,them mix all together.I use soy sauce not boullion.Never thought of using it in fried rice.
This is perfect for anyone going off to college! Would love to see a series on helpful and easy college dishes!

I love fried rice and cook it pretty often. I also add a tea spoon of sugar, it balances the taste. Also, soy sauce is must. Thank you!
Sesame oil is amazing. The smell that wafts up when it hits the pan just makes me happy. lol
Hello 👋 how are you doing?
Fried rice is a staple in our house. We use whatever we have in the fridge. Spam, ham, steak, char siu, adobo, kalua pig, Kim chee, cabbage, shrimp, kamaboko, crab, Vienna sausi, tuna, we use oyster sauce and shoyu. It's so good!
Uncle Roger: where's your wok!?
Where's the MSG!??
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
“Metal on non-stick saucepan? Oh no what is she doing”
“At least she don’t use colander.”
@@EroticInferno well to be honest, she’s using a stainless pan not a non-stick pan.
@@theresamnsota3925 dude that's not the point 😆
Channeling uncle roger is the point here😂
THANK YOU! 😆

Yessssss!
Delicious! I put first the oil, then the eggs and all other cooked meat and vegetables together with the cooked rice, nothing separated.
No one's egg fried rice is safe from uncle Roger 😂 we 💖 u Emmy
I LOVE this simpler form of video. A decently simple recipe but adding your preferences and small tips along the way. 👍
I appreciate that the more abrasive sounds are subdued (like scraping sounds, blender sounds, etc). As someone with sensory overload, it's refreshing to hear. ❤️❤️❤️
Hello 👋 how are you doing?
I make mine by using already cooked rice a little oil. Fry it up and add soya sauce, hosin sauce, sesame oil, an egg, and fish sauce just a a few drips. Sometimes I add green onions and cut them quick with scissors right in the pot. 😋
lol she made an Uncle Roger reference! 😂 Uncle Roger DEFINITELY needs to see this now.

Can’t wait for the Uncle Roger reaction video to this.... will it be Hayiaaa or Fuyohhh?
It's spelled ''Hayia''. Hayiaaa...

Happy New Year
Or, as a friend said recently,
*hopeful* New Year!

I did this for dinner in my youth in the 70s. Brought me to tears seeing this video
More recipes demonstrating how to avoid food waste please!
The chicken soup base is such a good idea! You are one of the most legit cooks on RUclips, applying technique to comfort food!
Don't season your rice, as for the eggs, it's up to you
Yum! This is the rice I grew up with, too. To this day, I always top it with furikake.
I approve. Cooking everything seperately, especially the rice, putting it aside and combining it all at the end is the right way to make fried rice.
I've been making my own version of this for years & I still learned something new! Thanks, Emmy!
(my favourite protein to add is shrimp!)
What did the fried rice say to the shrimp?
Don’t wok away from me!

It's confirmed Quinoa definitely works! And very delicious!! I also used liquid aminos instead of soy sauce so good!!
Hello 👋 how are you doing?
My kids call spam, “splatter ham”. They love fried rice too.
Hi Emmy just incase you don't know, when you get a piece of egg shell in your eggs, it can be easier to get it out using the larger egg shell part to scoop it up. For some reason the shell attracts the other peice of itself.
I haven’t had Spam for at least 30 years, but seeing this fried rice suddenly makes me want some.

Uncle roger: hiyah~☆wheres the garlic and ginger. Me: weldone mixed
No ginger for fried rice, it spoils the dish.
@@MrHornet72 I agree, whenever I use ginger it always over takes the fried rice and I didn’t even put that much, I might just be cooking it wrong tho
It's in the chicken stock powder.
Ginger is optional but it needs some chilis. They are not optional in Southeast Asia. Garlic is mandatory. We would add a dash of fish sauce too. Phom chob Khao Pad Moo.
Uncle Roger did say a bad chef uses ginger. Worst, chilli jam. Example: Jamie Oliver
We season our fried rices the same! Good to know others use the chicken bouillon, white pepper and touch of sesame oil! Best combo! I also do a touch of liquid aminos. Yum.

Ah, I bet other stuff is there too. Thanks. I'm glad you are still posting & stuff.
I'd *spam* you with another dad joke for uncle Rodger..
But I'd probably get *FRIED.*
Well if you do, the RUclips police will be on you like white on *rice* !
Dad jokes always make me laugh. Thank you for smile!
5:50 I have never used this but I personally use chicken or vegetable broth to cook my rice in
Can you do a video or two about avoiding food waste? I would appreciate leftovers more if they were reinvented as something new.
"Dont whip in a circle, whip like this"
* whips in a circle*
ah yes😃
Dude no there’s a subtle difference
She simply said a "famous" chef (whom I would butcher the spelling if I tried to name him) said to whip side to side not in a circle.
Can I Nay-nay in a square?
@@beezalbub7325 Jacques Pépin! He’s a good egg. 😇
Easy, inexpensive, quick to make, has a wide latitude for ingredients, is forgiving of inexpert technique, and the best thing, it's delicious and fairly fussy-eater proof to boot. Possibly the most ideal recipe if there is such a thing.
