    20:22 Spelling "daughter" as "dotter" could also indicate that the writer has the cot/caught vowel merger. People with the cot/caught merger would pronounce "daughter" and "dotter" as homophones, while people without the cot/caught merger wouldn't.

    I hate when I creep someone out when I can recognize their accent or certain words they say. They always respond like I'm a stalker or something.

    Dr Labov got the LAX guy out of jail but that doesn't mean the guy was innocent, you need to confirm that further investigation didn't find he was guilty.

    Myself I do investigation about things going on behind cliosed doors in the society as my hobby. I too use linguistic data. What I especially look for, are consistant grammatical features, and also occational grammatical slips in an otherwise perfect English. Also use of wards and general conversation style tell a lot, not only about regional origine, but also social background.
