Picked up my IS 500 a few weeks ago and you're right about the brakes. They are extremely competent, but the pedal feels a little odd/soft. Wooden is a good word choice... As a 5-time Lexus owner, I'm glad the car (at its core) is still on brand. I do not need shenanigans; just a quick, competent, supple, and reliable car to navigate the road while listening to Chill House music. 😀 It's not always about the speed, but for those interested in this car, use the manual mode to keep the car in the upper rev range. 1. You'll get that amazing soundtrack. 2. You'll be seriously surprised at just how fast this car is, even against the turbo'ed cars. More often than not, they will be caught with their pants down, not you. ;-P First time watcher, nice review!
Glad you enjoyed and are loving the car so far! Given how the V8 makes power, keeping it toward the top half of the tach is a great recommendation if you're in "play mode" - and then you can throw it in Drive and Comfort and have a pretty good cruiser, too. Enjoy and stay safe!
Such an amazing car, especially in this day and age. Thanks for the review and showing us all the different characteristics/personalities this car has.
Excellent review. You basically hit the nail on the head. It’s been a fun experience these last few months that I’ve had my 500 and it’s been surprising how much I’ve enjoyed the Lexus part of it so to speak. However coming out of an M3 as my previous daily I fear this might be a little too soft for my tastebuds. The TC control system you mentioned drives me absolutely bonkers. Also I subbed, great channel from an enthusiasts perspective.
just a quick question..kindly and respectively asking, which gen m3 did you come from before lexus and why did you leave the m3 for the is500? just curious to hear a previous m3 owners perspective
Very solid review!!! I'm glad Lexus finally brought this engine to market. I purchased one this week and in love with it already. The turbo 6s are great off the line but I like the connected feel I got from the IS500.
Shift speed matters on how firm you are with your foot on the pedal! Foot to the floor and the car will shift Quick, but just laying into the throttle or normal driving it will be more relaxed!
Fantastic review! Certainly covers all areas of interest about the features, and more importantly the drive. Infrared was my first choice of colour but given the crazy market for new cars, let alone limited production runs like the IS500 I jumped on the first one I could find 2 months ago - Launch Edition Incognito. Never was a fan of the Nardo Grey flat gloss paints, but it's starting to grow on me. Which colour would you choose?
I really wanna like this car for what it is, but given the economic climate - it's just too little too late. It's a gem and represents the end of a Lexus era before it fully jumps into the turbo & electrification of its vehicles.
It is definitely the end of an era and something we likely won't see again, from Lexus or others. We're seeing it across the industry (Cadillac Blackwings, anyone?) and we do think they'll sell every one they can make, given these all appeal to a niche market and aren't meant to be for everyone. They're silly and wonderful and the best of an era that is rapidly winding down. We'll miss this sort of car but are also excited for what's next.

You can fully disable TC if you simply bring the car to a complete stop, then hold down the TC off button for 2 seconds.

Great review, Jake!
Quick tip: you can turn off the traction control by holding down the traction control button for about 20 seconds.
Weird, we tried and it didn't stay off for us. Wanted to come back on after... brief shenanigans.
@@OutMotorsports You need to be stopped while doing it, else it work work. It will completely disable traction control to let you have fun!
@broujunior And for future reference, pretty much every Lexus is like this. Complete stop, hold TC Off button for 2-3 seconds.
You can turn off the traction control system by coming to a stop and pushing and holding the traction control button
That red is absolutely intoxicating!
“Infrared” is the name and we agree!
I own this car mine is the launch Edition. So fortunate to own it. I sold my STI for it.
My Dream Car. One day I will have one 👀

In Drive, sure. Too laggy in Manual mode when using paddles.
@@OutMotorsports odd, I haven’t heard many owners experience much lag in paddle mode
@@Nate-Aims It's not very laggy. Especially the downshifts - they are instantaneous.
Imperfect... I think every car is imperfect!!! 😀(including the most expensive ones)
I love how comprehensive your reviews are. And you have a great speaking voice! Keep up the great work! Cheers. 🏳🌈
Thanks, Loren! Appreciate it - tell all your friends ;-)
If you hold down the traction control button for 3+ seconds, you can completely and permanently disable the traction and vehicle stability control.
We tried! It didn't work for us :-(
Indeed it sounds great. Sadly it’s not sold in Australia 😢

You do have 80% of peak torque at just 2k rpms.
I'll never sell my ISF
