I was thinking the same thing.RMJ was innovative because they manufactured tomahawks with forging process. But Estwing has been making hammers, rock picks and hatches with that very same process for years...at exactly 1/10th of the price!!..I ordered 3 of these allready (they come in different variations). I dont have the RMJ to compare it with, but hell I think this will be a winner on the tomahawk world from now on.
Nice video! I ordered both the tomahawk and double bit axe with the leather handles. I love that estwing made versatile full tang tools/weapons for a fraction of what rmjs cost,in my opinion they get the job done, period.
Damn...you seriously own a lot of blades. I think your vids pop up with almost every blade I search for lol. I need a tomahawk and I love that an old hammer company makes one.
This BlackEagle also comes in a leather handle version in addition to the blue rubber and black rubber grip versions. There is also the double axe. The quality and price is incredible for a ~49 axe made from U.S. Steel.
It is carbon steel, I like it better than the SOG because of the steel and one-piece construction, although the 2.6 inch edge length is smaller than most 'hawks.
I'll check out that vid! Yeah I've heard from several people that when they threw their SOG hawk or fasthawk the handle broke. I've also heard that about the Trench Hawk and the M48 Hawk. I think pretty much any FRN handle hawk is at risk for handle breaking especially if thrown hard repeatedly and it misses and hits a rock or hard wood.
Glad you got one, thanks for the video! Definitely a best buy since it's about the same price as the SOG but much stronger and being US made is a plus too. I haven't seen any in the Home Depot stores, I think you can only get them on the Home Depot website.
Its is intersting that they would openly branch out into the tomahawk field like that. Pretty cool. They already make pretty indesructible tools. And while lots of things can be weapons, it seems like this one was made with that possiblity in mind since its "blacktical"
I have one its not a good chopper because the blade shape.it just smashes its way through with a decent level of effort.it can be thrown but takes a considerable amount of practice and is more of a advanced thrower.
i like the hammer handle. that sucker looks solid as a rock. like those metal hammers. and ive never broke a hammer. the sog fasthawk i looked at in the store felt rickety
I wanted to buy one but when I held the blue one at home Depot that cutting edge was too short like 2.50" & bought a different Estwing hatchet instead.
Yea great looking hatchet and I do landscape jobs some tims and this is a must have for me I try to carry a set of hatchet knive machete on truck and another set on my car I use truck only when need it but running around this set is on my car s trunk, countless times I used it to chop branches that fall so often specially during storm times we are on an area where tree s are old and many branches fall..Great review in getting this one soon
oh and i forgot to add i have used the spike as a digging tool on my sog to rip or uproot certin bush plants and over grown roots at my job i work at a paintball field and if are chainsaws busted we gota use an ax and my sog tactical its a work horse hasent failed me but i like the idea estwing made a solid peace so this seasions starting soon and all need to havely remove brokin trees and more uprooting and also chop up fire wood so am looking forwerd to geting one asap great review am sold
Interesting. I've been curious about this since I first saw it online. Speaking of the SOG in the video...did you happen to see the newest Zombie-Go-Boom video where they hit a brick with the SOG and it snaps in half?
Do you find the handle a bit too 'girthy' for lack of a better word? I just bought this and find that I need to hold it at the narrower top half since it feels maybe slightly too wide for my medium hands. I have the CS Trench Hawk and American Tomahawk Model 1 with no issues. Thanks!
Ive been collecting knives and machetes for a while but dot know much about hatchets so what would be the best hatchet in your opinion for under 75 dollars?
I saw this one at Home Depot for about $40.00 It looked good in the store but I wanted to see the reviews first. I want it for home security since I do not own a gun. Another great thing about this tomahawk was that it is American made.
thats a good looking beating you gave it, is it all one piece or pressed in at the top? was hard to tell from the vid. Aaaaahhhh you just stated 1 piece :) I think from the comments tho were a lot of people are stating it has broke is not exactly confidence inspiring, especially when I'd deffo throw it. Another 'make it myself' scenario
Good vid. How would you compare it to the SOG tomahawk? I like Eastwing products. Bought the SOG after seeing your vid on it. And you know how I feel about them. So I blame you for my sin in buying a SOG product, LOL...... I like this one so I might buy it. It looks like it is all one piece, which might make stronger than the SOG. Is it SS or carbon steeel?
Say Heah, Yeah, I stopped by H D to buy some batteries and Furnace filters, and I couldn't pass up the Saw's and Hatchets and Multi Tools, and I guess Knives, I got the filters and batteries. I compared the Multi Tools, the knives which were a job to me and Saws EAH I only saw Fiskar's and I have one but I didn't see the one I bought a couple of years ago, A Wooden Handle with the Power Teeth which turned out to be a pretty good saw, the Hatchets were some generic made for H D Rockwells, so I passes on them too, but I went where the Estwing's were, I already have (3) different size Estwings, I saw the Tomahawk your using now, But I also saw the Double Bit Hatchet, it's alot heavier than my 2Hawks Double Bit Hatchet which is also eye candy but very functional, the specs are according to Nessmuks Double Bit Hatchet, But I bought it anyhow, I'll tell you what I think of it as soon as I give it a work of, Go Buckeyes, 49-7 over Rutgers, ,
do you have any rmj hawks? if so please do a review soon and compare a lot of the hawks, also you should so a hawk category video like you did with machetes.... thank you so much for being the best machete, knife, hawk, hatchet, and everything sharp or pointy channel on RUclips
Had one of these a few weeks ago. I do some blade smithing and forged a few tomahawks, must recently from some stock of Boehler M390 super steel that I got to make a couple knives. To be honest, it's really overkill as a tomahawk steel, and wouldn't recommend it unless you have the tools to sharpen in, unless you can clear your schedule for a few days. I did it more or less because I could, and I've yet to see one made from that material. Anyway. When I first saw it my first thought was that while the head is definitely a tomahawk as opposed to a camp axe/hatchet, the handle made me think of a hammer. I own a few other mass produced Hawks and compared to the others at this price point, this one is miles ahead. Typically a full tang one-piece tomahawk will cost you (conservatively) twice the price. It was more rugged that I first thought it would be. We got two snow storms in the period of 3 days. Got a for for the first, then the next day the temp shot up to 52 degrees, then the next day the temp dropped to the mid teens and we got another foot.I hadn't cleared my back stairs and landing from the first storm. Anyone that lives where it snows will be familiar with what happens in that scenario; the snow melted 3/4 the way from the first storm then froze up again leaving me with 3" sheet of ice under the snow. I had sharpened the spike a few days prior (it wasn't my hawk, a friend dropped it off for me to grind some steel away on the spike and fix the grind on the right side that was uneven with the left from the factory). I wacked the hell out of the ice on the 5 stairs and a little from the deck. I fully expected that the spike would deform and flatten a little bit and I'd have to fix it after. To my surprise the ice hasn't affected the spike at all, it was just a sharp. So I decided to use the blade and again the ice hadn't affected the edge at all. It's really light compared to the typical full tang tomahawk and I found it really well balanced. I didn't really like the handle, but that was more of an aesthetic complaint. I found the rubber had an odd feel that always felt like there was dirt or dust on it. It is really good at absorbing much of the shock I would have received from an other material. I would be remiss if I didn't address some QC issues. The reason I had it in the first place was that grind from the factory was really uneven. They hadn't finished the grind, and it would mean that it would never be as sharp as it should be. It was easy enough to fix it on the grinder and wouldn't have been too hard to do it by hand with a file.
THIS IS THE BEST TOMAHAWK EVER MADE. Light durable and a tank. I like SOG knives but this is so superior to the SOG Tomahawk. Keep the Estwing and throw the others in the trash. IF you go to war this, it is the one you would come home with.
Nicely done man. I was hoping the head wouldnt make a pinging noise when chopping. Some tomahawks have a tendancy to sound like a tuning fork, and that drives me nuts! Thought I was already subbed to you, but I guess I was wrong. I AM NOW! ; )
Are you ever planning on getting a really high end tomahawk like American Tomahawk, RMJ Tactical, Winkler or an Emerson? I would be cool to see you destroy something with one of those :)
its an estwing i owned an old version and it was my first i guess tomahawk solid steel with blue grip and the steel had a nice pitina on it sadly my brouther lost it it was a hammer head with a axe blade that was small enuff to use as a hammer and a chopping tool and it was a work horse
thinking about getting this tomahawk but the version with the leather handle and the logo painted white...do you think it would be equal to this all black rubber handle one?...I like the overall look with the leather better
THANK YOU for one of THE best reviews of any product on youtube (*). just the facts and plenty of 'product in use' shots, and the 'after use' shots. I bought one based upon this review. I love it! (*) don't you just hate those other reviews where there is a stationary shot of the item and the person just talks and talks and talks, and you do not get to see the item in action? Great review here!
When was this particular product made available? I'm upset that I haven't seen it for sale in Canadian tire or any of our "big box" stores :( Thank you. Great review and demo!
I love my Estwing hawk but I recently retired it from my outdoors gear bag with an ESEE Junglas as it chops quite a bit better than the hawk...with that being said,im comparing a $35-$45 dollar hawk to an $170 short heavy machete..the Junglas just works better for my needs..really can’t beat the price of these Estwing tomahawks,as many of us know an Estwing hammer will last you a lifetime and these tomahawks are made every bit as well as their hammers...I would take it over those cheaply made SOG tomahawks that probably cost a good bit more..I don’t mean to shit on SOG because they do have SOME good gear but they also have a lot of over priced BS..I’m still disappointed I wasted $65 on my SOG Flash 2,it’s a decent looking folder but it feels so cheap in the hand..I haven’t abused it at all or even used it slightly hard but yet some how the AUS8 steel rolled at the serrated portion of the blade..I know $65 isn’t that much money for a knife but it feels like a cheap $10-$15 blade.Ive bought better built knives for much less..needless to say, that has kinda pushed me away from SOG..plus I couldn’t be very confident in a tomahawk that isn’t a full tang/single piece of steel construction instead of tomahawk heads being mounted onto a fiberglass handle

i agree, they are solid!
This BlackEagle also comes in a leather handle version in addition to the blue rubber and black rubber grip versions. There is also the double axe. The quality and price is incredible for a ~49 axe made from U.S. Steel.
The force kind of goes around the cut out, like a triangle brace on table legs, its a strong shape.
perfect, light weight and fast moving, just like a hawk should be. i love this thanks for demostration. this tool is on my wish list now.
I just got one of these, with the leather stacked handle. Awesome piece of equipment.
FINALLY, SOMEONE PUT THIS TOMAHAWK TO THE TEST! I've been wondering how tough it is since I 1st saw it on Estwing website.
Very nice review; just purchased one of these; will be living on a ranch for a while and thought I might be able to use it for tasks...
Northeast. Unfortunately, it already snowed again the day after this vid and the yard is now snow covered again!
Glad you got one, thanks for the video!
Definitely a best buy since it's about the same price as the SOG but much stronger and being US made is a plus too.
I haven't seen any in the Home Depot stores, I think you can only get them on the Home Depot website.

The Estwing Rigbuilder Hatchet is a good one.
Thanks! Yeah I think this will stand up better than the SOGs
i like the hammer handle. that sucker looks solid as a rock. like those metal hammers. and ive never broke a hammer. the sog fasthawk i looked at in the store felt rickety
I like it because you know they handle won't shatter
Glad you like it!
I wanted to buy one but when I held the blue one at home Depot that cutting edge was too short like 2.50" & bought a different Estwing hatchet instead.
The Barong, the Talwar Folder, the trench knives, that big angular looking machete ... basically everything but the Bird and Trout knife LOL.
Thanks! Welcome back!
It's around $40, you can order them from Home Depot's website.
Just got mine a couple weeks ago, very sturdy and just as brutal as their hammers.
just ordered mine the cut out on the blade is made to fit gas main cut out valve
Didnt expect an answer so fast lol. Much appreciated.

Have you seen the hawks CRKT is coming out with? They look pretty bad ass.
Great review. You can use two hands on the handle, I find that useful when fatigue sets in.
This looks to be far better than either the SOG or Cold Steel of similar make, and it's made in the USA.
Interesting. I've been curious about this since I first saw it online. Speaking of the SOG in the video...did you happen to see the newest Zombie-Go-Boom video where they hit a brick with the SOG and it snaps in half?
Thanks, Dillan!

The full tang is a huge plus for me because most hawks on this price range will have zytel handles which are weaker but granted are lighter.
So I just bought mine off Amazon. Did you have to sharpen yours too? Mine came dull as hell.
It was about $40 at the Home Depot website I got it from.
i Just bought the rig builders axe from estwing , i cant wait for it to come in the mail !
Ive been collecting knives and machetes for a while but dot know much about hatchets so what would be the best hatchet in your opinion for under 75 dollars?
Not sure
Thanks for all the awesome videos man, also thanks for helping me choose a good tomahawk to buy
GREAT VIDEO! 3min of testing fotage and exelent demos.
I saw this one at Home Depot for about $40.00 It looked good in the store but I wanted to see the reviews first. I want it for home security since I do not own a gun. Another great thing about this tomahawk was that it is American made.

I'll check it it
Wow, totally missed this one when we were talking about that m48, I love the hammer (general tool) grip on it, very practical gonna research it

The rubber hilt/sub-hilt are a bit disappointing though. Big fighting blades need something more substantial, especially if you ever have to use them.
It's definitely better than the SOG just based on the steel alone.

uscgalpha91 That's the spirit!
Excellent

Any chance you can do a review of Hardcore Hammers new Minihawk?
Thanks.
Thanks!
The edges seem a bit steep on them, but it is nicely forged in one piece like all Estwings which is good.
Are you ever planning on getting a really high end tomahawk like American Tomahawk, RMJ Tactical, Winkler or an Emerson? I would be cool to see you destroy something with one of those :)
It's a tough bugger
Wow! The Home Chopping Channel
its an estwing i owned an old version and it was my first i guess tomahawk solid steel with blue grip and the steel had a nice pitina on it sadly my brouther lost it it was a hammer head with a axe blade that was small enuff to use as a hammer and a chopping tool and it was a work horse
Sounds like an estwing dry wall hammer
Does it feel good with two handed use? The handle seems to have a lot of real estate.
Nice! The only Estwing I have is a stacked leather handle hammer! But this is cool!
thinking about getting this tomahawk but the version with the leather handle and the logo painted white...do you think it would be equal to this all black rubber handle one?...I like the overall look with the leather better
The grip is slicker but it's still good
Awesome video!! Just bought mine today💪
Excellent! Estwing is one of my favorite companies overall.
Thank you, bro!
Estwing makes a hawk? Nice! great review...
Thanks. Estwing is the better tool. M48 has the looks.
Thank you. Yeah some reviews of items can get away with that, but on an item like this that is meant for a lot of use, I'll always hit things with it!
Excellent review .
Thanks :D
When was this particular product made available? I'm upset that I haven't seen it for sale in Canadian tire or any of our "big box" stores :(
Thank you. Great review and demo!
Welcome! I think I got it a few weeks after it became available, from the Home Depot website.
im honored my friend!!
Awesome, congrats!
Which tomahawk do you suggest for someone new at throwing? Thanks.
Any idea if the SOG molded sheath will fit the Estwing? Nice review! :)
I just wish the edge length was a little bit longer.
huh did not know it was out yet, thanks for the info
Which between this and the SOG Tactical?
Good Practical reviews with no B******t like this channel a lot. I think this hawk is for me.
ITS TACTICAL BLACK.... SO IT MUST BE AWESOME....
REAL TALK THESE DUDE MAKE STUFF THAT HOLDS UP.....
Please review 'The Marauder' 1st, it looks a lot like 'The Natchez' but with a better looking handle, to my opinion.
Great vids keep up the good work and bye awesome hawk I have it and love it highly recommended for anyone
Your thoughts on this compared to the SW EE tomahawk? In relation to multi purpose use and combat effectiveness?
The SW EE is a lot heavier, it would be harder to carry around, I think this one would be more multi-use and flexible.
Thank you sir
Sog or M 48, what would be your choice?
Does home hardware sell alot of tomahawks?....
how much did it cost and wtb
what steel is it?
Did it come pre-sharpened? or did you have to get it sharpened?
pre-sharpened
+WeAllJuggleKnives saw it on sale in Canada $20 off so I'm going to grab one for camping. thanks
I don't like the blade profile .I think I'm gonna round mine some to make it chop better
I like this hawk! Its pretty good! I like the review too! :) Good job on the review!
What's the best all around hawk you've ever reviewed that's less than about 60$ ?
(Including throwing.)
I'd go with the CRKT Woods Chogan.
Any concerns of breaking the sharp edge due to the cut out? Seems like somewhat of a weakness in the design. Let me know your opinions on that.
