I was there too! Was in the crowd behind the goal-line pretty much in line with where Marshall scored his try. Unbelievable performance by the ABs that day.
Windy Wellington. I remember it well (as a kid). The great Don Clarke, in his famous book 'The Boot' 1966, admitted that Athletic Park had to be ruled out as a top-flight test ground because of the wind, citing Sydney Cricket Ground as his personal choice as best. I am pretty sure, though, he would rate this game the greatest in the capital; I sure would! Many thanks for the upload 👍.
A friend of mine played in the Aus Under 21, back in Michael Lynagh's day. Playing at Wellington the ball was going backwards when Lynagh kicked it. They were struggling to get a message to Lynagh apparently. Big Dave, on the bench for this game, who was big everywhere, hands, feet, head and voice was tasked with getting a message to Lynagh. His answer, a top of the lungs scream of "Noddy, kick the effin thing lower". Unsure of the result of that yell or in the match.
@@dishevellednomadMany thanks for some interesting details. Yes, the wind drowning out communication between fellow players/bench is another good reason for dismissing Athletic Park as one of the great grounds. Don Clarke made the comment that, when against the wind, he'd kick the ball & it would end up behind him; which goes some way to confirm the initial mistake by the Wallabies here in opting for the wind with them in the first half (& playing right into the All Blacks' hands). Added to all this, horizontal rain isn't going to help anyone's vision. The fact that such a fine game, some inevitable handling errors notwithstanding, could be contested says much for both teams. Best 👌 👍.
The all blacks used to peak between world cups in this era ..But iv always said there Series win in south africa in 96 was there greatest moment in there history .Even more kudos than the world cup wins ....
27 years later..still awesome.

The best exhibition of how to play wet weather rugby you will ever see. The All Blacks were magnificent that day.
Thanks for uploading this

Has there ever been a game between these two with both sets of backs to stacked full of legends
I have never seen Jonah Lomu work so much in a match before
Michael jones in my oppinion the greatest wing forward I have ever seen
In your opinion he's the greatest you've ever seen? Who else would have an opinion on who is the greatest you've ever seen? LOL.
@@rh5466 what would you know about anything plum 😂
After his first knee injury in 1989, 1996 was his best year playing for the All Blacks. Jones was world class at 6
Michael Jones 💯 🏉🖤
I was there for this game hard to believe the way the AB's played.
New Zealand were irresistible in this match. Quite phenomenal
Pakaka creeky express...great Oz pronunciation
The Australian pack is a good one
Dont u love pure comedy
Wish the game had the kiwi commentary aussie is painful
Rugby 2023
Rugby used to be so technically poor. Just 30 dudes running around like headless chickens. Also, Mehrtens perhaps the most overrated AB of all time
When rugby was rugby hard tough no quotas for black players
