I worked in MANY recording studios in Hollywood/the Valley back in the 80's. If you were to buy all the capabilities of this little gizmo back then...it would have cost you thousands and thousands of dollars. Never mind the cost of the studio. It keeps getting better and cheaper. Great stuff.
by far one of thee best demo video on musical gear/equipment..NOT about the player but THE product..clearly & simply stated AND DEMONSTRATED... very well done and presented TWO thumbs UP !!
Thanks for your great video clips Michael, I bought the BR80 and have had some great times with it, I use a Yamaha keyboard instead of a guitar and the results are amazing. I back it up on the PC as a WAV file after Mastering in MTR mode which I can put on to CD, brill !!
I've been looking for drums/looper/effects, and recorder for weeks. I had no idea this existed. I'm sure I'll be getting one soon due to your no frills, no bs teaching. You never got long-winded. Thank you for just showing us the useful functions. Thanks a Million bro!!!!!
Hi I just wanted you to know I e-mailed the Roland/Boss Backstage. And they added "How To Make Rthythm Track for the BR-80" in their Knowlege Base. They made it plain and clear with pics and straight forward instructions! If you registered your BR-80 then you can log on for free and get the info...Have a great one!
Thank you Michael I am so glad I discovered these videos. I bought my BR 80s two years ago and the paper manual was really uncomfortable to read. There is nothing like watching someone going through the steps. I was somewhat afraid of the device. I think I will give it a try again.
Cheers to you Mike. Finally someone who knows how to explain this ripper piece of tech. Only waited 8 years! Don't worry I'm nearly 100 years old. Still plenty of time eh? Lol: Nice one!
You've probably figured it out by now but for those who haven't. -Make sure the song you want to master is selected (it will be if you just recorded it) -hit menu and select bounce/mastering -Tweak the necessary changes you want to make (skip this if you don't know what these functions do yet) -Hit record to arm the track -Hit play to master it down
Thank goodness you did these videos for the boss br br 80 they were such a help as found instructions in book confusing. Still cant figure out how to save song from mtr to send to eband mode.
Been using a octave pedal for bass like tones plus a very basic drum machine.. Nice to have everything in one box. Seems easier to use than the Tascam DP008EX, which I have used for ages. Really good that Boss/Roland did this, it's very useful to the functions explained 👍
The Boss Micro Br-80 recorder ships with an sd card that I believe has the “drivers” necessary for your Computer (assuming PC type) to be able to recognize this device. I have loaded the driver onto 2 computers, used the supplied usb cable ( small end for the recorder) and both the computer and my DAWs recognize the recorder as an audio interface. You can also transfer recorded files this way ( back and forth). NOTE: the unit records wave files at 16 bit- .
You can use a drum machine into it if your drum machine has a jack plug just push it into the guitar in. If not you can go with the small jack plug and push it into Line in for stereo. (This will use up two channels of the 8 if stereo. If it's an acoustic kit just use live record
I received it for Christmas and now I am fully unlocked ! A fabolous gift, really ! I have all pedals (almost) I can play with the real Van Halen tone, AWESOME ! But the alimention is selled separatly... and the book is in English and German, no French version :'(
Great demo Mike, I was wondering: would there be any limitations in for the input of drum sounds from another drum machine? Would the Br-80 actually record external drum sounds or do you have to go with the preset sounds? Thanks.
The boss br80 improved my recording quality the quality of the condenser microphone is amazing Bad thing Is that I can't access my dynamic mics The cord provided to use it for an audio interface is very short Are there longer cables you can get to put it in a more desirable location?
I bought this and even following the manual I can not figure out how to make a drum rthythm track as B.j.Surfdog ask you about. I would also be very thankful for a how to video or even where to find one. I have looked everywhere on net.And even in the Backstage Knowlege Base on the Roland/Boss site, all they have is for the old Micro Br instructions for building drum rthythm (intro-verse-fill-break-ending) Thank you for your video`s!
Like so many of these videos, everything goes too fast and not well explained what he is doing. E.g. is the rhythm track part of the final mix, or just there as a guide? When it comes to the mixdown and mastering he just presses a couple of buttons and leaves it at that without really explaining what he is doing. Novices, like me, need a much more detailed step-by-step.
So you can't record multi-tracks using the external mics as an option?? I was hoping there was either the option to record multi-tracks on LIVE REC or a mic input option on MTR. You can't do multi-track recording using the external mic inputs. :(
Great Videos ! ( all of them) . Michael Elsner., are you able to do a video on how to do a drum background (intro-verse-chorus-end, etc) in the MTR mode?? it's a little deeper, i know, but there are numerous users like myselt that would find this to be a useful tutorial. Thanks for anything!
How are you playing sound in this video? It doesn't have speakers - are you plugged into the BR80 then into an amp? I've owned this thing for 8 years and still can't figure out how to use it! Not having speakers really sucks
Saludos amigo, necesito tu ayuda, cuantos instrumentos puede grabar al mismo tiempo? puedo grabar un concierto en vivo directo de la consola en estereo? cuanto tiempo graba sin parar?
So, say I'm putting together a song with the MTR by making up several melodies using different tracks, is it not possible to play along with the already recorded tracks to practice unless you export the mixdown and open it in the E.band function?
Oh holy guacamole I remember back in the nineties we had to record onto a tape recorder, and get it right , oh for a deloreun car fitted with a flux capacitor, my now all married with kids band would have secured a record deal , but then where would we get 10000 gigawatts in little old Ireland in the yesteryear,
So if you select "no category" does that mean you can line out your authentic amp sound directly into the Boss BR-80 via guitar cable? Can you even plug into it directly this way? If so, I'm buying.
I bought one two days ago. Mine does not came with rhythms or song templates. The dealer don't know what is going on and Roland Portugal does not give me any answer. It's live. Lol. Oh, i must say that i've downloaded the opearating system from the Roland's site. It keep on same. No rhythm, no songs. May be i'm a little bit stupid.

I like it it's like you have a sound tech guy in the box lol

I bought the BR-80 yesterday from Swee Lee guitar Shop and it is amazing. I have learnt something important from your lessons. Thank you very much
Excited to learn about the BR-80's MTR mode from Michael Elsner. Very useful informative video on BOSS MICRO
BR 80.
Hi Michael, your introduction of the BR-80 is so perfect and easy to understand that I really want one soon. Thumbs up :-)
Well done Michael excellent demo, you’ve convinced me I’m buying one.
Was watching another tascam video and ran across this. This Boss appears to be worth looking into further! Thank you!!

I just found one of these for sale, barely used for $100 AUD. Waiting for the guy to message me back. These things are amazing
Thank goodness you did these videos for the boss br br 80 they were such a help as found instructions in book confusing. Still cant figure out how to save song from mtr to send to eband mode.
Excellent demo young man, simple and succinct.
Yes Thanks Alot Michael! i have had mine just a couple of days now seems a Great little device am beginning to get the hang of it now.
Good video which helps to explain the basics of the BR80. There should be more thorough videos provided by Roland.
Really well-structured & informative tutorial, brother. Thanks dude.

Very nice. I like it
very cool device, I've put up a couple tunes using this box

go to the boss website

how nice the video is!

Thank you for your video. Is there possibility to add a track of accoustic instrument?
a perfect video

very nice...
How do you save MTR R 1 so you can export it to PC? I have no idea how to do that step
This guy is having an afair with Kim Basinger behind Garth's back. Wayne told me.
nice video
intresting video
Yes a little bit slower would help beginners,I had the korg d3200 at one time and it was far easier to operate.. I enjoyed demo thanks
Thank you very much for your fantastic video. Question: Is it possible to program the drums and/or change the factory patterns?
Well design multi track recorder .
How are you playing sound in this video? It doesn't have speakers - are you plugged into the BR80 then into an amp? I've owned this thing for 8 years and still can't figure out how to use it! Not having speakers really sucks
THanks Mike! Good stuff
Trying to simply import a stereo MP3 to MTR and record some vocals over it... Why is this not covered anywhere?
Didn't know this had built in recording software, Cakewalk Sonar.
Do I have to connect to amplifier to get sound
So, say I'm putting together a song with the MTR by making up several melodies using different tracks, is it not possible to play along with the already recorded tracks to practice unless you export the mixdown and open it in the E.band function?
yep you can, just make sure you change channel, but yes absolutely
do you have to play the whole song in one go on guitar without messing up or can you copy paste verses ?
it's all direct means no latency...which what makes it great recorder
how do I turn on a count in before recording?
It's a nice small recorder.
Can you also use this with a bass guitar or keyboards to record them on separate tracks or is it just for guitar and vocals?
Good explanation.
LOL,funny shit!!
wish you would did a lead track lol sounds good
This will be my very next ..."toy"... ;)
we have got a marvlous recorder which is very easy to operate as well as easier to carry then any other commercial available recorder.
Decent sound select.
How is the mixing done after you've recorded several tracks without faders?
You can even play in the train, in the street, no limit ^^
Oh holy guacamole I remember back in the nineties we had to record onto a tape recorder, and get it right , oh for a deloreun car fitted with a flux capacitor, my now all married with kids band would have secured a record deal , but then where would we get 10000 gigawatts in little old Ireland in the yesteryear,

Can you turn off the drum track in mtr mode? Can't workout how to do that
Keeps it simple and easy to follow and doesn't use the vid to show off his guitar prowess.
Would this be useful for importing my own backing tracks and playing/singing over live?
RunReilly Yes you can 👍
Will i be able to adjust the volume/pan while i record the second track over the first one?
Thank you in advance
yes you can try this ruclips.net/video/UxI0sHxxrnI/видео.html
And what about telling us how to get a great sound through that box?
how does it compare to the Tascam?
How do you record from a sound mixer without using the built in mics as background noises are being picked up?
Jules Gordon, The unit has a stereo line input for bringing any stereo signal into the DR-80
Hi, is it possible to program the drum patterns on this machine or are they set patterns
Thanks
I bought one two days ago. Mine does not came with rhythms or song templates. The dealer don't know what is going on and Roland Portugal does not give me any answer. It's live. Lol. Did you take a time machine from 1974?
Can they BR80 be used with a keyboard
ciao, ma posso registrare anche la voce?
grazie
good
If i load up a song in eBand that was preloaded, and I record a melody over it, how do I then transfer that whole song onto my computer?
