Grade 10, two years into my infatuation. I finally got the courage to ask her out. Since I wasn't brave enough to ask her in person, I got her mobile number off a friend after school, then paced around my room for two hours rehearsing lines. When I finally call, her dad picks up. Confused, I ask to talk to her. He tells me she's in the middle of a driving lesson with him.
I'm now panicked. None of the scenarios I had played out in my head involved this. In my state of confusion I end up asking her dad to ask her out for me. He pauses... A looooooooooooong pause.
I can hear murmurs and giggling in the background.
He returns, "Sorry mate, better luck next time".
First time getting turned down in my life was by a middle aged man... At least he let me down easy.

So I spent the week psyching myself up to ask again and when a week had passed and I asked she turned around and went "what!? I have a boyfriend!"
Guess she needed that week to find a good excuse...

When I was in grade 6, I asked this boy out by giving him a note in the yard and then running away. At lunch time, he passed me a note back and said "so you wanna play paperweights do you?" I literally had to ask him three times to say the same thing before he finally gave up trying to explain it and just told me to open the note which said "okay" on it.
He broke up with me after about three weeks of not talking to each other and passing messages through our friends about how much we like each other. We also went to the school dance together but he pretty much ran away from me as soon as we paired off.
And then I held this big grade 6 party in my shed (the decor was just as you would imagine it to be) and I invited my best friend from the city. I was still trying to win him back at this point, impressing him with choreographed dance moves, and he seemed to be getting along really well with my best friend and I thought, "oh this is good, she can tell him what a catch I am".
About a week later I get an email (in green comic sans font) from my bff telling me that she and my ex "boyfriend" are in love and he wrote her a poem. According to my diary, this was the worst day of my life.

In primary school, me and my friend both had a crush on the same girl. He somehow convinced me that we both should scratch an "I love you" message into the side of the school shed.
I went first and scratched "Zack loves Jessie" onto the shed and before my mate did, a teacher caught us vandalising school property.
The principal was called and every kid nearby came to look at me getting told off and saw the message, including the girl I liked.
I was forced to apologise to the girl and I don't think I ever spoke to her again.

    My embarrassing crush story:
I accidentally turned down a girl I had a crush on for *years* in high school. I'd convinced myself she was the one I was going to end up with long term, I saw every interaction with her as "progress", etc. Well it turns out that for a while, she actually liked me too. Her brother would literally walk past me at school and yell "my sister likes you!" but I just assumed he was trolling me or something.
Every time a sign came up that she might like me, I'd just explain it away as "I'm probably overthinking it" and would convince myself I was just seeing things.
Well, one day she got me alone on a train after school (her friends "suddenly and mysteriously" had to go to another carriage) and she was visibly pretty nervous. She said "hey, I was just wondering... do you have a crush on me?" and leaned in hopefully for my answer. That was it right there, that was my moment! But what did I do? I started rummaging through my school bag pretending I was looking for something, and changed the subject. She leaned back in her seat and looked visibly disappointed.
Now why did I do this, you ask? Because I'd heard the statistics of how unlikely relationships were to last if they started at that age, so I told myself we weren't ready yet. I was going to wait *five more years* until we'd left school before I made my move, because then it would last, I told myself. Of course, I waited so long that she eventually lost interest and we drifted away.
Yeah, teenage me had some odd ideas about love and relationships.

I refused to say it out of fear of being told on... we ended up going to different high schools... in year 11 I found myself at a party and she was there and she looked amazing, so I walked up to her and her friends while I was off my face and said “FUCK, that’s the word... FUCK”... turns out she didn’t recognise me, and even if she did, there’s no way she would have remembered what she told me in year 6... - I was 17 and there was a cute girl a year or two older than me who just started working at the gym reception
    - In an autistic attempt to make her notice me, I asked to buy something from behind the counter. A protein shaker bottle I think
    - Amidst the exchange I somehow gained a surge of confident chad power, kind of like when Neo jumps across a building and Morpheus says 'he's beginning to believe'. I managed to get her to talk about herself
    - She mentioned using the gym, and I said 'we'll have to partner up sometime' to which she smiled and said 'I could do with an exercise partner!'
    - She extended her arm and held out her fist, and sure enough, I met her invitation and fist bumped her. Her expression completely changed to a look of disgust
    - 'uhhh... I am handing you your change?' - she said, as she burst into a kind of laughter that not even a seasoned lawyer would have a rebuttal for
    - I remember forcing a laugh as I said something incoherent which couldn't be heard over the banshee's harrowing scream, I then fumbled to open the automatic door which made her bellow harder, now attracting the attention of other gym staff. I walked away, fast.
The days that followed were a blur and I still think about it at least once a month. I'm 26 now

I was the happiest kid alive for a day when i thought she liked me. Then when she revealed the joke by kissing the class bully and declaring him her boy friend infront of everyone at recess on the final day of the year I was like ralph wiggum when he was dumped by lisa. whats worse is I was in a year 4/5 group and I was in the same class as all of them the following year. Crush Story:
I think this was in year 1? I wanted to ask a girl named Kelly to marry me, I asked my Mum if I could buy a ring to ask her. She humoured me and said that a nice bracelet would work fine.
Fast forward to the next Monday and as I walk in to the school, I get pulled aside and yelled at by the Dad and told never to talk to her again.
Mum must have let someone know.
Thrown to the wolves by my Mum, verbally taken down from Kelly’s Dad and actively ignored by Kelly for the rest of the year. I didn’t last much longer at the school. Kenthurst Public School is still a place of horrors for me.

I too have a blast from the past story. In year 1 I tried to impress a girl by swearing like my dad. Spotted her at lunch under the playground, and Connor McGregor'd my way up to her with a big ego. Looked her dead in the eye and said "How the fuck are ya?". She immediately ran away and told a teacher, so I tried to hide under a slide and ended up losing my play time. Later on I got invited to her party though, so I guess it worked.

Crush story: I can't believe I'm actually about to tell this story.
In year 6 I liked this girl and it turned out she liked me back but since relationships where taboo in my school I did the only thing that made sense...
My exact quote was "since dating would be weird at the moment, what are your thoughts on me asking you out a year in advance for highschool?"
As soon as highschool came around she had me blocked on all social media for 2 years. (we went to the same highschool and had mutual friends from primary school so the awkward cringe went on for many years)

In year three I ended up writing a parody to Paul Jennings' "Tongue-Tied " where I try to give my crush a fish as a present and at the end, we unintentionally kiss. Long story short, I got my teacher to read it to the class for show and tell to try and impress her and at the end of it, my crush is in the back of the room crying with her friends comforting her.
It's been 11 years now and I still cringe...

Damn son. In year 4 the hot new girl sat next to me for a couple of weeks before I had here in tears. She saw me drawing and asked me to draw a picture of her and her crush, who was my best mate. Even though I was devastated he was still my mate so I drew what my innocent 10yr old brain assumed boyfriends and girlfriends do and passed it to her expecting a thank you or a laugh. Instead she started bawling and gave it to the teacher (who already hated me) who then called me up to show the class what I'd done. I didn't know what I did wrong and nobody would talk to, or play with me for the rest of the year. I never got over it.

In year 7 every class was forced to take dance lessons in preparation for the end of year ball, or whatever the fuck it was called, and when the teacher split us up into "permanent" pairs for the next couple of weeks guess who they paired me with? When the teacher put us next to each other she looked at me like I was a pedo, then refused to touch me or even make eye contact until they forced her to put her hands on me. I had to dance with my first crush, who socially castrated me, turned the school and my best mate against me then spent weeks during practice intentionally making me feel like a leper to the point where I started faking "allergies" just so I didn't have to relive the most painful moment in my life. Fuck childhood.

@@Joot_Doctor My father left when I was in nappies, so until he showed up on our door step when I was 10 I'd never seen an example of two consenting adults showing any kind of physical intimacy, let alone anything about sex. I was so happy to finally have a dad, but on the very night he appeared out of nowhere, my mom and dad started acting like they'd never been apart to the point of him cheekily placing his hand on her lower inner thigh which made her laugh and playfully push him away, not knowing me and my 6yr old sister were secretly watching them from the kitchen, over the moon with joy at the thought of having our dad back. It was then that the new girl, who I was convinced was into me since I made her laugh every day, asked me to draw a picture of her and her new "boyfriend". So, thinking quite innocently, I drew a picture of my mate with his hand on the inside of her leg just above the knee with her laughing and pushing him away. It wasn't pornigraphic, more of a charakature of what I thought was how adults display intimacy. I never got over the fallout of everyone hating me and not knowing what I'd done wrong.

In Year 8 a guy from another school I had a small crush on rang my house's landline to ask me out on a date. My dad picked up, grilled the shit out of him with questions and then asked to speak with his parents. Not off to a great start, but they said yeah ok they can go see a movie. I get to the shopping centre on the day and his two stern-looking parents were standing there. He was sweating bricks and I assumed his parents would leave. They hovered over us the whole time. I felt really intimidated so instead of seeing The Hunger Games we went to the Reject Shop and bought a barrel of slime from the toys section. We played with it on a bench in the shopping centre while his parents were on another bench further up the mall hallway surpervising. I spent the hour-long train ride home wondering what the fuck had just happened and texted him on Skype to say I didn't want to hang out again.

In year 6 I had a crush on a girl who also liked me but I did the classic, savour the small victory and never go for the full asking her out.
In the school play I played one of the main characters who at the end of the performance had to confess my love for another character, you guessed it, it was her.
I came off stage after performing this in front of my parents (who also decided making fun of me for this was solid parenting) to a crowd of children giving me so much shit even Clive Palmer wouldn't be able to produce this much shit after 4 big macs which I assume is his morning snack.
All the kids starting chanting that I loved her to which I responded, "nah, I hate her, her hair smells..." the lamest excuse ever. She heard me say this then proceeded to never talk to me again.

He continued to be a good friend but kept making uncomfortably desperate passes at me. This culminated in me going to his place to check out Skyrim and him attempting to impress me with his sister's pet rabbit. Went out to look at the rabbit and it was dead and in full rigor mortis. Then I just sat there while his sister rushed home and had a breakdown saying she could never have a rabbit again.

I was friends with a girl who's parents knew my parents.
We knew each other for years and we were pushed into the same extra extracurricular activities (scouts, theatre etc.). I guess we just had very similar parents. Anyway, back onto the point... She would treat me like a brother at school. We never hanged out but we would chat. Her brother saw me comforting her and beat me up after school. He told me to stay away from her and I did so for the rest of primary school. I didn't approach her at all. I tried my best to avoid her, even though we would see each other every Thursday afternoon until about grade 9.
In grade 12 she and I somehow started speaking to each other. She asked why I stopped talking to her and I told her why.
She didn't know that I was beaten up. She told me that the kid who beat me up outside the bike racks in grade 7 wasn't her brother but the new kid. She told me how much of an annoying shit he was.
She then told me that she was sorry and we hugged. (She missed me, and I was happy to know that I was her adopted brother again. It's a stage feeling).
Anyway, after that, I was beaten up after school by her current boyfriend.
I closed up even more after that.
And this is why my parents think I am gay.

At some point my other best friend pulls me to the side and asks if I had a crush on him to which I obviously said yes thinking she wasn't going to do anything... I was wrong. When we were sitting down at the table for lunch almost immediately she turned to my crush and very loudly announced that I had a crush on him. A thick silence fell upon the room as my crush avoided any eye contact with me and continued to eat his food. I don't remember much about what happened after just that my crush had to be picked up earlier than usual and that we didn't speak again after that point since both of us were way too way too awkward about it to face eachother. I'm 21 now and still vividly remember how uncomfortable both my crush and I were to this day, the real kicker was i found out that he at some point had a crush on me too.
That's not the worst story I actually have three other ones which are worse, but this one doesn't make me want to crawl into a hole. Just lets just say I've never exactly been the most smooth Woman alive

My whole schooling experience is a series of unfortunate events. I have always been a bit of a awkward guy, and this was especially true up until about uni.
    1) In grade 5, in classic fashion the boys were talking about girls that they liked. I of course said that I loved somebody in my year because at the time I had zero emotional intelligence. It was pretty awkward between us for the rest of primary school. To the point where I would actively avoid her, so as not to embarrass myself. I did get to hold her hand one time during production, that was the happiest I had been during primary school.
    2) I liked a girl (J) between year 8-10, there was another awkward friend of mine (T) who also liked her. We ended up sitting together a lot of the time, us two guys, the girl and one of her friends in classes. One time we went to a school fair together, that being myself, the other guy and the girl. Most awkward 'date' I've ever been on. I asked her out to a Deb Ball, and we had fun, but at this point it was pretty clear that I was being friendzoned. So I made a decision to ask her out at a friend's new year's party. I got rejected, and then at the start of the next school year, she started going out with one of my chad friends (P). I said I was cool with it, and I was happy for them, but it still hurt like a motherfucker.
    3) Not my story but P and T from story 2 had a 'confrontation' regarding a different girl they both liked (L). This resulted in T challenging P to a 'battle at sunset' for the affections of L, a meme which has still not died in my friend group 8 years later.
    4) This one involves my two highschool best friends, M1 and M2. M1 is my homie to this day, whereas M2 drifted away. M1 and I were good friends with M2 and I had a bit of a crush on M2. We did everything together, but it was clear there was chemistry between M1 and M2, so I stepped aside to let it happen. Pushing them along together, as did most of my friend group. M2 actually had a crush on M1, but we all assumed that M1 had a crush on M2 as well. That's when N came into the picture. During a photoshoot for an art class project that I was pulled into to support M2 in her lovelife. N pulled me to the side when M1 and M2 were out getting stuff setup. Asking for my support as she also liked M1, I agreed. Which left me in a bit of pickle, I said I would support both, had a crush on one, and had no idea what my boy M1 was thinking. Photoshoot came and went. M1 was in crisis so I pushed everything to the side for a night to help him sort out his feelings. I didn't think he and N would make a good couple, but I talked to him to hear what he thought. He told me that in the end, he liked N, but really didn't want to break M2's heart. I told him to follow his heart and he did. M2 would not speak to M1 for 6 months afterwards. It was a highschool version of the cold war, with high tensions, proxy wars and everything. Seeing as they were both pretty key members of our friendgroup this made things a TAD awkward. M1 and N went out for a month, then went their separate ways. If you think that was confusing to read, imagine living it.
    5) Now for the one I am most embarrassed by. The last of my high school crush woes. I had a major crush on one of my friends (J2), who had transferred into the school in year 10. She was pretty, smart, funny and also was into video games and anime. I got some encouragement from my friends to ask her out. So I did. I asked her out on fucking SNAPCHAT. SNAPCHAT! I wrote up a 'love letter' on snapchat, with the thought that hey, if she rejects me there will be no evidence of it, and we can put water under the bridge. What a fucking mistake. She rejected me of course, thank god. I realised the moment I sent that message what an absolute idiot I was. Lo and behold, as a result we have managed to stay good friends, she even helped me with later romantic endeavours. At some point I just stopped seeing her that way, and we became close friends as a result. That doesn't lessen how much of a fucking idiot I was.

In year 8, awkwardly growing manchild had a really big crush on the foreign exchange student who was in from the Czech Republic. I told my mates about it one morning. They spent period 0 to period 3 peer pressuring / hyping me up into saying something. We all shared french together and my friends, to their credit, got me sitting next to her. I essentially start wimping out and one of my friends just randomly stepped up and said 'HEY, he's got something to say to you!'. She looks up at me, expecting to say something.
Two things to note. She didn't speak a whole lot of english, and she was wearing a full face of make up that was a bit on the heavy side
whilst panicking, i looked her up and down and while trying to give her a compliment on something noticed a HUGE reflection of light in her make up.
'You, uh, really have a shiny face'
The room erupts with laughter and she looks PISSED.
I moved and swiftly repressed that memory to this day.

First time I asked a girl out went pretty wrong, she went to Thailand for a few months every summer, I’d had a crush for a while and realised I was out of time so on one of her last days at school I asked her out at the end of the day, a fair amount of our class mates were around, her response was to not make eye contact with me and say “oh god” and her mate hold in laughter, I realised I dun fucked up, went back round the corner to find three of my mates, all called James, laugh till they nearly died, one of which was laughing so hard he fell over, smacked his head on a bench, and still kept laughing. He ignored actual head pain just to laugh at me. Kind of explains my reluctance to act on feelings for years

In year 7, one of my mates wrote a 500 page letter to his crush, was too scared to give it to her, so he gave it to one of her mates to give to his crush. At the end of the day, he runs up to her, asks if she read the letter, and she says “yeah but I don’t really like you” or something like this. After this man poured his heart out, using quotes like “just being around you makes me better” and “you are just gorgeous, the most beautiful person I have met”, he just got shut down, then ran off to catch his bus.

In yr 11 I had a crush on a girl who obviously had a crush on me too, but I was focussed on doing well for the HSC (Asian selective school kid mindset). She tried making a move on me when we were studying in the private space at our school library. I froze up and was like that old guy in that Danish porno who was like "no don't do it; Ima virgin". I said "no" and pushed her sway, rationalising myself as an intense desire to study and do well. The stupid thing was that i didn't want her to stop being interested in me and for some reason I believed I could that by telling her I had a girlfriend who went to fucking St George HS. Needless to say, it didn't work very well.

This happened in year 6, and it's honestly scarred me for life:
It was the first crush I'd ever had...One day during lunchtime at school my friends and I were all playing truth or dare with my crush (so you can obviously guess what happened next). I picked truth, and my 'friends' asked who my crush was, knowing full well that he was right there...so I did what any distraught tween would do and froze before fleeing the scene...pretty sure I ran to the opposite end of the school and just like...cried lol.
The worst part of the story though, is that they ended up telling him, and then, when everyone was lining up to go back into class after lunch...in front of everyone...he pretended to like me, an my dumb little twelvie brain believed him, and then he was just like "haha lol nah why would I like you?" It was fantastic...since then I've kept all of my crushes secret in fear that a similar thing would happen lmao

Ok, 18 years is long enough to finally talk about my repressed embarrassment I guess...year 7, I really like a girl, but because I was a ballsy teenage boy (just kidding, I was the epitome of beta-male) I waited until the end of first term to find her address and send her a love letter, listing in cringey detail why she should say "yes," and telling her to not tell anyone I wrote it. I spent the majority of the break hoping that it either went to the wrong address, or that by the time school resumed that she'd forget about it.
Day 1 of term 2, I discovered that she in fact had not forgotten, and neither did her friends. They tormented me over it for the two weeks following.
Fast forward 6 weeks or so, she and I are alone briefly in class. She asks me if I still liked her. Of course I did, but remembering the humiliation from the previous admission, I promptly said "no," and pretended I urgently needed to work on my school work.
Year 12, we catch up, and I learned she'd kept the letter.

Dude, I have no idea if you're still reading the comments but I have some GEMS:
When I went to my year 10 formal I took a girl I'd liked forever, spent the whole time panicking and asking her if she was having a good time (she obviously was AND she repeatedly said yes). A few days later her friend asked me if she has a good and I said 'No she didn't I was awful the whole time and she looked insanely bored'. She called to yell at me about it then never spoke to me again.
There was a girl I liked, and after I'd told her we would call each other every night and talk to each other for half hour or so, eventually when one of her friends confronted me about having not asked her out (with her in tow) I said no and that I wouldn't embarrass her like that and that we barely ever talk or know each other. She ALSO yelled at me about it and it was a bummer cause she was pretty gosh darn great.
There was another that I used to get drunk with and we'd pass out next to each other, after about 5 years of shenanigans I asked her if she wanted to hook up. She said no but if I'd asked anytime in the last few year she would have been all over that. I said 'okay', rolled over and passed out. I found out later she wanted to be convinced :|
I have probably a dozen more, I was seriously impaired by anxiety as a teenager, but blessed with good looks. So the tales are both numerous and GLORIOUS

Then, while distractedly complaining to my friends, I heard my teacher ask for two people from the class to volunteer for school roll call duty (basically a get-out-of-class-free card). So I jumped to my feet yelling ME, ME, ME, happy as a clam as all my prayers had been answered. That happiness quickly turned to bitter shame as I noticed everyone else in the class were smugly looking toward me as I suddenly realised that the only other person that had volunteered was my crush.
