They did rehearse for the episodes of "The Honeymooners" , but Jackie Gleason had someone else substitute for him in the rehearsals because he hated to rehearse because he thought that it took away some of the spontaneity from the actual performance. Gleason said that his substitute for the rehearsals was much funnier than him but that his substitute just couldn't be funny in front of the TV cameras.
